What great customer service at Paperjam. Kind, courteous and efficient. I highly recommend them.

I've worked with Paperjam Press for a few projects now, and everything's gone well. It's nice to support a place in the neighborhood. Located on a cute section of Fremont, there are only two parking spots out front with additional free street parking nearby. Though it's a small shop, visibility to the customer area in the front isn't great, so sometimes when they're busy they don't see you right away and you have to speak up. They've been quick to respond to emails, and have a decent turnaround time regularly, with the option for a ~$25 rush fee for same-day printing. Automatic notifications go out when your order is ready for pickup. Quality has been good on the color flyers and postcards I've had printed, and I'll be looking to do a few poster boards soon so I'm hopeful those will turn out great. read more

I'm upping our rating by one star as the owners were kind enough to reach out, apologize and give us a refund. The finished product was pretty good, but our customer service experience was terrible, most of the staff were not nice or very communicative and acted like they were doing us a favor. The cost was twice that of the estimate they gave us and it took forever, much longer than we were led to believe, which threw off the timing of sending out our invites for our wedding reception. I am thoroughly disappointed with Paperjam Press. They printed my pieces to the wrong specifications. The paper type was wrong. The attendant who gave me my prints was rude and kept man-handling the prints even after I told him I planned to frame them. I was willing to look past the fact that they forgot to make my order for a few weeks until I inquired. This was bad and left me pretty upset given the significance of the prints. read more

I was in need of wedding invitations at a rapid pace. Paperjam Press was there to save the day. I went in Wednesday afternoon with an idea of what I needed and was able to find a template that suited my needs with help from Lane. Lane was friendly and helpful along with the owner Deborah. I was able to pick a 100% recycled paper for the entire invitation set, which is something that was very important to my bride to be. I handed over my requested write up and was quoted approximately 2-4 business days for completion. Thursday morning I received and email informing me that my proofs were ready for review. I stopped in and Deborah had everything ready to show me. Reviewing the proofs I found 3 minor changes to make, (1. spelling error on a name, 2. Moving a word to a different line, 3. Removing a line from the details card). All of which were so minor and quick fixes. Friday afternoon I received an email informing me that my order was ready to pick up. I stopped in and Lane had everything boxed up and ready for me when I arrived. I looked them over for a final review and everything was perfect. All in all I would highly recommend Paperjam Press to anyone in need of invitations. Especially knowing that they offer in house printing and a rapid turn around. Other retailers quoted me 3-4 weeks for my order to be completed. Paperjam Press saved the day with a 2 day turn around and when I showed my bride to be the completed work she was extremely pleased with the results. read more

I've gotten things printed here a few times and the quality has been great, though the service never super friendly. However, the moment something went wrong (it was debated whose "fault" it was), they quickly turned accusatory, condescending, and wouldn't fix the problem without a fight. It's a small space and we did overhear the men in the back admit that something had gone wrong on their part, though the ladies avoided that admission. Regardless, we were not there to point fingers, but to have our prints fixed. I'm disappointed with their childish and holier-than-thou customer service and I've since taken my printing jobs elsewhere and had a much better and more professional experience. read more

So much for your friendly neighborhood print shop.... I went in to see about printing some flyers off, 10 color pages. The employee at the desk was nice but seemed confused about if they could do that or not. When she asked the manager/owner she shook her head and gave me the "I should know better" look. "Is there a digital file?" I told them all I had was a copy and just wanted to run some flyers for my business real quick. The lady then seemed to weigh the possibilities but then shook her head, sitting amongst all these copy machines, and waved her hand dismissively saying, "does she know about the minimum? Tell her about the minimum." The employee, informed me there was a $40 minimum for printing. $40 minimum for a tiny place like that? Wonder how long they will last with ridiculous prices and snooty management. read more

I love Paperjam Press! John and Deborah are wonderful and very helpful people. Love love love them! I'm a Graphic Design student and printing is something I struggle with. I never get the end result I want. Not with Paperjam! I got exactly what I wanted and I couldn't be more pleased. When I was having trouble getting the right colors to print for a final project, John saved me with his incredible knowledge. He went to the trouble of calibrating my laptop screen to fixing my file settings. I learned a lot from John and I appreciate his patience. They're now my go to print shop! read more

So, I went here to get some business cards printed. I ended up getting Julie to help me with a design as well. While I think this place is a bit overpriced, the amount of money spent there wasn't the/my issue. The people are ok, I guess, to include the woman owner, but just aren't overtly friendly. Also there is a guy who sits behind a big computer in the middle of the store, I was in there 3 times and he didn't smile at me once. Again, I just wouldn't call it a (super) friendly place. It doesn't have that warm friendly feel to it, and for this reason, I won't go back. I left the experience with a rather bad taste in my mouth and not because I was unhappy with the product, just the people and the place. I urge Portlanders to seek out more friendly print shops; I hope to find one soon! read more

For years I have ordered our family Christmas cards through the various online card companies (Shutterfly, TinyPrints, Minted, etc.). This year I tried Paperjam Press and will be sure to order from Paperjam from now on. Paperjam's finished product using their regular cardstock was as nice as some of the premium paper offered by competitors. It sounds strange to mention this, but Paperjam's envelopes are above-and-beyond what I've received from other companies. They are made from heavy paper stock and help to make the card even more special. In previous years I've always timed my Christmas card order for Thanksgiving since that's when the online companies offer large discounts. But Paperjam Press' regular prices are even better than those discounts. The best part is that Paperjam is a local Portland business! read more

Paperjam Press did an excellent job with our wedding invitations. We had a design picked out for the front side, but really no clue about paper color and weight, font color and size etc., and the folks at Paperjam helped us pick out all of those sorts of details. They also happily printed an example of our top two choices so we could see how each looked and felt (my mom was very concerned about the paper weight!). Excellent communication throughout. They were also fairly speedy at getting everything printed because we had a bit of a self-imposed deadline to get our invites out that we were rushing to meet. Oh! And very reasonably priced. We were glad to support a local business rather than one of those over-advertised brands like Vistaprint or Minted. read more

I should have read the yelp reviews before I used them but they had been hashtagged on instagram from a reliable vendor and since I like to support family owned businesses I chose them over an online printer. Bad decision. -Their communication is awful. -They did not follow directions. -There are errors on my envelopes. -They didn't print one of the addresses at all. -They overcharged me and it took two days to get this corrected. -I asked the owner to call me and they told me she wasn't in, but when I called back five minutes later she answered the phone and immediately transferred me so not to have to talk to me. They can respond to this and argue, but as a business owner myself, customer service is king and they failed miserably. The bright side is the invitations look great, but some of the envelopes not. I would never recommend them. read more

After printing with Paperjam for years, I have decided to stop using their services after several experiences where I was being gas lighted and silenced. Examples: Sending original to wrong address and telling me that it was my fault because I sent the wrong address. When looking back at emails it is clear that the address I sent was correct. There was never an apology or admitted mistake by paperjam. After requesting a digital print several times I was told "I swear we sent it" for weeks rather than just sending it over. I would never recommend Paperjam to anyone. After being silenced over the phone with Debra several times, I told her I was choosing another company to print with and her response was "good!" which as a paying customer I felt I was disposable. Really the worst way to attempt to print artwork. read more

I recently checked out paperjam to get a quote and first noticed their website does not have examples or descriptions of types of papers, cost of papers, etc. when you might expect a chart of these things, at least, with breakdowns of quantity discounts if applicable. The quote form itself is confusing as they don't explain or show the different types of papers and different things you can print on. When I got my quote, in which I explicitly said I wanted the more affordable option for quantity (while of course not sacrificing too much for quality), I was quoted for a more expensive paper and it was a lot of money. OK, so I decided I probably needed to just go in and check out the papers and costs in person... When I got there, I asked how much it would be for a test/sample print, and even for my small 5x7, she said it would be $20 which is way too much (I guess what happens is if you go ahead with the print order, the proof goes down to $5??). I'm an artist and have been trying to figure to best spot to make prints/art cards of my watercolor series and had just come from a print shop that gave me one free test print (giclee) -- and I would've been totally OK with spending 5 dollars or even possibly up to 10 but not 20, for one small digital print, if I didn't know whether I'd be going through with an order. When I talked about this to the person there, she got defensive and said the work is worth it, but that wasn't really my point. I think this shop is more geared towards people looking to spend more or who have more of a budget. I decided to leave without getting anything because there are other much more accommodating and knowledgeable shops out there. She said she was surprised I received a free test print from the other shop but I'm not surprised because that's smart and a great incentive for me to give them my business instead (continued, not just one order). read more

I had the "brilliant" idea to design the Save the Date postcards for my wedding. Of course, I left it until the last minute and wanted to get them out right away. We called on a Saturday and Myles gave us all the helpful information, how to save the file, color scheme etc. Did a test print at home, sent the file in, and didn't worry about anything excepting showing up before closing time. Myles contacted us a short while later to say that part of the card was not printing correctly. We were already under a deadline but now needed to redesign the card. I'm convinced if we had used an online printing company, I would have received the poor quality print or notified 5 days later. Myles was patient and helpful, we sent another draft a bit later and he was still able to make it work for us. You might pay a bit more than an online printing store but it's worth it to have the customer service and someone who cares what the final product looks like even when it's not their design. Thanks again, Myles, and we'll be coming back to order our wedding invitations... though this time I'll wait at Pip's with doughnuts and a chai while I'm waiting! read more

John at Paperjam was so incredibly hands on helpful with my very small project. I had an idea of what I wanted to do for a block party street map and he helped me repeatedly with fine tuning and making my project look professional. He was very patient with my repeated changes to the project and never made me feel like I was too much trouble like some bigger printing shops might have. Also the selection of artists works in the shop is worth checking out. I can see why artists would want to use this shop, the focus seems very artistic and with good attention to every detail. What a fantastic experience! My fiancé and I procrastinated our wedding invites hard. He was designing them but we didn't know where to get them printed. We got quotes from a couple of different places that were way high. Paperjam quoted us a very reasonable price and even better a quick turn around. From submitting the design to proof to print only took about a week. We worked with Beth and she did a great job making sure we felt comfortable and informed through the process. Paperjam press was recommended to us as a place to print our Christmas cards and awards for our business by a different printer who we usually use. We were going to go through paperjam because they do smaller print job runs than our usual printer. The lady on the phone started out nicely. We ordered some invitations for our first job. On about a third of the prints the red was off by a milimeter as if the paper was moved a small amount before the red was applied giving a white line above everything that was red. The woman at the front desk told me I should have gotten a proof, but I let her know that if it was the paper moving in the middle of printing a proof would not have fixed that issue. To show her I showed her two cards from the run she gave me. One of them was 100% fine and another had the white line above it. She was slighty defensive about this, but I let her know I didn't need her to reprint it, just to please let the printer know that this had happened and to make sure it didn't occur when we brought our larger orders in. We'd already gotten a quote for all of our orders and when I went to place the second order I brought up the issue with the original print when she asked if I wanted to purchase proofs. She had been pretty pleasant on the phone until I brought this up at which point she got defensive and told me a price point that was twice the amount she originally told us in the quote. She also had quoted us on 20 prints but said we would have 25 minimum. She said no one should have quoted us for 20 prints since their minimum is 25. I pointed out that she herself had quoted us this price at 20 prints she said she wasn't sure she wanted to do our project anymore and had a distinctly argumentative and rude tone. I let her know she was being unprofessional and hung up. We won't be using paperjam press and suggest that anyone else looking for a professional shop to print their runs go elsewhere. read more

But we were blown away this past week with their service - there was an unexpected death in our family and Paperjam was able to make the programs for the memorial service in a very tight turnaround while treating us with respect and accommodating our numerous requests. I have no experience in design and they were able to walk us through the process and help us create a beautiful and unique printed materials for our wedding. I waited until the last minute to get business cards printed for an out-of-town event I was attending. I was going to go elsewhere when i found out how long their turnaround time was but they assured me they could get them done in time. They were done in time, but the guy who laid them out took it upon himself to decide he had a better idea about how they should look, so he cropped my graphic in a way he thought was nice but that in fact that made the cards unusable. At that point it was too late for me to go somewhere else, so I had to suck it up, blame myself for procrastinating, and go to the event without cards. I've never had a printer decide to override my design choices without consulting me, and I would never trust this printer with any future job, rushed or not. read more

Paperjam does a good job with printing, but I've had a few issues. I got a one page calendar printed one year and was incredibly satisfied with the results and price. So I go back the next year to get the calendar printed, same size and paper choice, and it was literally twice the price. When I asked them about this they just said the cost of paper went up, but I have a hard time believing it doubled in a year. (I'm an artist and I buy paper all the time.) I was disappointed because I budgeted it to be the same cost of printing as the year before. I literally have no idea why the price would double for the exact same thing. I got less printed because of this, and asked if I could get more printed later if needed. They said yes and did not explain any stipulations. I nearly sold out and got a request for a bigger order of calendars, so I called and asked if I could get 5 printed, and I find out they have a $40 minimum. Which obviously it would be pointless for me to buy that many more. I wish they had better explained to me why the price was doubled, and that they had a minimum. Their prices are nowhere on the website. It's too bad because the results are pretty good - but I don't think I'll be getting my calendars or anything printed here again. read more
