Shrimp & grits, potatoes, chocolate chip pancakes, and bacon
    Latoya G.

Papermoon Diner is such an eclectic little magical diner. A sensory overload for the eyes, but in a neat way. After years of putting off my visit to Papermoon, I finally decided to take a surprise trip with my nephew. Since I knew eating a diner with so much fun stuff enrobing you would be up his alley. We stopped in on a late Sunday morning for breakfast and was lucky enough to not have to wait to be seated. Our server was nice, giving us a moment to decide what we wanted to nosh on while pointing out all the little trinkets covering the walls and ceiling. I opted for the Shrimp and Grits and my nephew settled on the Chocolate Chip Pancakes. The food was delicious. A generous amount of shrimp in the shrimp and grits adorned with some very creamy grits and a sauce chock full of veggies and tasso ham. My nephews stack of pancakes was soft and pillowy to which he devoured. My only gripe were the prices. I felt the pricing for some of the items, particularly the pancakes, were a little pricey. Three pancakes with no additional sides for $17.95 is pretty steep in my opinion. Next time I'll probably do a la carte to get a full meal at the same price of just three pancakes. Nonetheless, we had a great dining experience and we're looking forward to our next visit at Papermoon Diner.

A D O R A B L Y eclectic! Sensory overload but in such a GOOD way! First thing to rave about is their private parking ... made me an immediate fan. The menu and ambience would make me return. The actual food ... not so much. I hate when the food just completely blows it for me. We didn't like the fries, the burgers, the tofu wrap, the pulled pork ... *sigh* Where was the seasoning? Not a hint of salt, pepper, or advertised hoisin. The service was decent. I don't handle being uncomfortable too well. We got the feeling this is for locals only and that's not a good feeling. I'm looking forward to rocking the t-shirt I purchased but, sadly, that's where the buck stops for me. Despite my displeasure ... PLEASE make it a point to visit ... I cannot rave enough about the decor and artwork (and aforementioned private parking).

I had an afternoon train back to NYC after a work conference and saw a bunch of reviews about this place. It's very busy on the outside with all of these unique and colorful pieces, trinkets and collector items the owner must've curated throughout their life. I got a sandwich and it was good. I think all of the decorative trinkets, weird dolls, old school toys, the massive pez collection and the other quirky items are the draw here. The food was good but idk if I'd call the menu super memorial. A really nice experience but I don't know if it's a place I'd go back to if I had some other options for brunch. Staff was nice.

I can definitely say that the service at paper Moon is excellent and very fast. They definitely got us in and out for lunch. Our food came out to the table in probably 10 minutes or less from us ordering it. It's a very small place so they definitely can't play around with turning your table over. The restaurant has a hodgepodge of different knickknacks all over its walls and ceilings so there's a lot to look at. You can check out my pictures. I ordered the bananas foster French toast and it was good. I would say it was excellent if my French toast was hot, but I'm just one of those people who prefer my food to come out hot. The French toast was lukewarm. My son did enjoy his Caesar salad, garlic bread and chicken alfredo. I've been coming to Papermoon Diner since the late 90s and I would say it's still a very good diner.

Let me tell ya - I was 100% satisfied. This is a place you need to stop by and try if you are ever in Baltimore. Perfect place to go with friends for breakfast/lunch. There may be a small wait, but you usually get in within 20 min. The staff is friendly and have great vibes along with the entire restaurant. You will be amazed by all of the art in front and behind you. It's not your typical diner! Had the shrimp wrap. My friends raved about their options as well (Big Dipper breakfast and the Smarty Pants Burger with fries) we all had a bite before the pictures - it was too good to wait. All beverages are great! The hot chocolate and any milkshake are must gets! Don't say I didn't tell you

This is a warm and inviting city favorite. Definetely recommend this place to try breakfast or lunch. It's too much of a zoo to make me want to be a regular though. No reservations and a bit tight inside. Neither of those I mind, it's very cozy and I see why they don't take reservations. Pancakes were perfection. Server seemed confused, new, and out of it. Got a couple of our orders wrong (I asked to switch my bread, and other things). I didn't mention it because it was busy and we didn't want to wait for replacements.

We had a great experience at Papermoon. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was quirky and fun, and the service was great. The food was done well but really, go for the vibes. You won't regret it!

The only reason I'm not leaving a five star review for Papermoon Diner is because they did not refill my coffee cup a single time. That 2nd cup of coffee would've made the entire meal six stars. I hope to try the omelettes next time, but the French toast is in the middle, as it needed mor Blue berries. But as far as taste and quantity of French toast, it was excellent.

Came here on a Sunday at 11am and got my party of 4 seated immediately! Around 12, all of the seats were full. Part of their concept is there's no set servers for each table, they have a different person bring out the food vs the receipt. I ordered an egg Benedict and shrimp quesadilla which were both large portions and tasty. I got a to go box for leftovers. Their interior is really interesting, lots of trinkets outside, on the walls, and the ceiling. There is a parking lot for customers only across the street which is a rare find in Baltimore!

After reading reviews about the service on Yelp, I almost didn't come & they were sadly correct but at least the food was tasty & the atmosphere was eclectic. When I arrived, it was almost 2 pm & the dining room was nearly empty & I asked for a window seat but it was refused as I'm a party of 1. Regardless, the whole time I was there, most of those tables remained open. If that wasn't enough, I also asked my waiter for water with no ice & lemon. He forgot the lemon & added ice anyways. During service, my drink never got filled without request & my other drink showed up later, as if he forgot I ordered it. The food was very tasty & the atmosphere is eclectic. If the staff could be more service oriented, this place could rock. But instead I'd say go somewhere else unless you don't need good service & just want an eccentric food experience. It's kind of like the nearby art museum, once you've been once, that's good enough because it's not going to be your go-to place unless you like servers who don't care about the customers.

Bacon Milk Shake and a Peanut Butter Madness shake.

Fun restaurant setting with kitsch galore. Excellent breakfast, good coffee. They were kind about us treating this like a museum stroll while we waited for the food. Bacon Milk Shake and a Peanut Butter Madness shake. Maple bacon blended into the shake with a whole slice of bacon on the side! The PB shake is nicely rich.

Very quirky diner and decorations! Even the bathrooms are decorated. I ordered an omelette and the portion was pretty big and it tasted pretty good.

A wonderful lunch for my brother's graduation! As an undergrad (almost 10 years ago!) I've been here several times, but it was nice to introduce Papermoon to my family. As impossible as it seems, the quality has only gone up since I was in college. All of us were beyond satisfied, and customer service was excellent! My mom is vegetarian so she loved her veggie burger and my brothers loved their picks too. One of my brothers got the Egg Monte Cristo, which he raved about. The other got the banana foster French toast and loved it. I got the Monte Cristo sandwich & a soda which didn't disappoint, and gave me leftovers for 3 days! I also got the brownie sundae as well which was good but personally wouldn't get again, a bit pricey. In total I spent $45 including tip which seems high but I got a drink, entree and dessert. In this economy $30-40 seems to be the median range nowadays. Overall I would highly recommend and I would visit again!

The food was cold. The waitress wouldn't check our table we had to call out to her. Overpriced and not worth the 30 minute wait

This place was a one-and-done experience for us. Never again!!…read more My husband and I ended up here after the Dave Chappelle show because our original dinner plans fell through when the restaurant was fully booked. We should have made reservations, but at that point, all we wanted was a decent meal (nothing fancy) after a long workweek and then to head home. Unfortunately, a decent meal didn't happen. The food was some of the worst we've had in a long time. My husband actually spit food into his napkin, shook his head, and said, "I'm done." I've never seen him do that before. Several dishes were simply inedible. The mashed potatoes were bland and flavorless--how do you mess up mashed potatoes? The potato salad was equally bland and disappointing. The French onion soup had very little broth and was overloaded with a thick layer of hardened cheese. Overall, the food tasted cheap and poorly prepared, yet the prices suggested otherwise. It felt like diner-quality food being sold at premium prices. What made the experience even more frustrating was the manager's response. He came to our table after hearing about our concerns, but instead of focusing on the quality issues we raised, he seemed more concerned that my husband refused to order a replacement meal. That spoke volumes about where the priorities were. The one bright spot was our server, who was attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the meal. No complaints regarding the server as he was extremely apologetic with our experience. To our surprise, the restaurant also added an automatic gratuity to our bill. Ironically, had that not been done, we likely would have tipped our server more because he was not the problem. The kitchen and management were. No, I didn't complain about the tip after I noticed it on our bill. We were over the experience and just wanted to pay and get the hell out of there. Save yourself the disappointment and spend your hard earned money elsewhere. We certainly wish we had. Gordon Ramsay, if you're looking for a future Kitchen Nightmares episode, this place could desperately use the help. P.S. A business name change is not going to help with the quality of the food. Do better and prove that you actually care about your customers, not just the $$.

I was a little put off that all of the seating is booths, which can be a little uncomfortable to the people I dine with, who prefer more space between themselves and a fixed table. We were told to seat ourselves. We did. it took a couple minutes for us to be acknowledged by one of the five or so servers who were bustling about. Service was friendly and fairly attentive. The Maryland Cab soup was good, with a lot of crab and a decent amount of spiciness. I had a French dip type sandwich with fries. I asked for my fries to be extra crispy, they were served kind of soggy and cold. The au jus for my sandwich was literally cold. That said, the food was basic but good. This is a standard decent diner. I don't know what the reviewer who said this place is in "the hood" is talking about. It's on a well-lit strip of road with car dealerships all over. Kay's Diner is a nostalgic, cozy Black-owned diner in Baltimore. As soon as I entered, I felt the love! The owner Kay and the manager Sheim are frequently walking around checking in on their guests. We sat next to a couple regulars who were known by the employees by name. It stands out a lot to me when a business has regulars that are treated like family. They offer counter-top seating as well as a few booths. The menu is extensive offering way more than classic diner breakfast, lunch & dinner. I ordered the French toast combo with a side of potatoes. It was a satisfying meal overall! Eggs were fried hard with cheese, potatoes were well seasoned, bacon was crispy! My only distaste is that they used regular bread rather than brioche for their French toast. The flavor on the French was amazing, it's topped with a cinnamon sugar butter. I washed everything down with an amazing Arnold Palmer. The Perfect balance of tea and lemonade. The coco bread was buttery and light, a delicious treat. My friend and I decided to share one their fresh pressed seamoss juices. It was good! -Customer service is amazing! The employees really treat you like family. -Free street parking available close by. -Countertop and booth seating. Plenty of TVs. -Prices are average. French toast combo was $14.99. I'll definitely be a regular here. I hope you enjoy!
