Tilingo Lingo is a fantastic restaurant located 500m west from the beach and famous lighthouse on…read morethe south side of the road and will make anybody who visits this fine establishment very happy and satisfied for several reasons. The first and foremost is the food. The chef is an internationally acclaimed master (or mistress in this case) of the kitchen. Serving many international dishes such as chicken masala, chicken curry, superior local seafood prepared in a variety of ways as well as a wide array of vegetarian options, this place is a gem popular with the locals. The menu is not extensive, but the chef will prepare you anything you want if you ask her and do so with charm and a sincere smile. She is an expert in Mexican, Italian, French and even Chinese cooking and her expertise in the kitchen is only surpassed by her warmth and hospitality. If you're extremely lucky they sometimes have a chocolate flan cake which is nothing short of heavenly. They also have a full bar and a variety of juices and shakes for your refreshment. Even for breakfast, which is a traditional breakfast, is delicious due to the locally sourced eggs and high quality bacon. Then there is the French press coffee which is great way to start the day! The chef has built and managed restaurants throughout Latin America and is a gifted expert in the kitchen. She has been showcased in several magazines over the past 25 years. Even simple dishes, such as rice and beans, taste like heaven in your mouth. It's rare to find such quality in a restaurant where EVERYTHING on the menu is delicious. After eating here you will not only feel satisfied, but also like a welcome guest and member of the Tilingo Lingo family. Whether you have been here 10 times or if it's your first visit, they make you feel like an old friend returning home. Additionally there is a hostel downstairs which is clean, air-conditioned and comfortable. The price is typically less than $15 to stay overnight. All laundry is done daily, no bugs or mosquitos and consistent electricity (not a given in Mexico.) You will be comfortable, well taken care of and feel like a member of the jovial yet professional Tilingo Lingo family. Mahahual is a lovely town with super nice people who are friendly and welcoming. Tilingo Lingo embodies this spirit in addition to creating excellent dishes and large portions. A fantastic value with excellent quality.

We absolutely loved our breakfast! So much so we returned two additional days for dinner. My…read morebreakfast was the Paquete Vegano with red berry sauce, seasonal fruit, in this case, mango, banana, and I believe papaya, but can't remember the last item anymore. It also contained almonds, pecans and pepitas. So amazing! Yum!! The bf had some incredible looking huevos rancheros. He made them disappear quickly. For dinner, I ordered el caldo Tlalpeño. Too much cheese for my liking, but with fabulous flavor. My other half ordered a squid platter that he enjoyed. Tonight, I only ordered guacamole with tortilla chips. Simple, yet satisfying. I didn't have much of an appetite. My bf ordered a tuna platter in a red sauce with capers and black olives. The place was packed tonight and the a/c was off, making things quite miserable and sweaty. The service was adequate, not anything to jump up and down for or anything to complain about. I was not thrilled to hear that the owner was Italian and had an Italian chef. It'd be nice to see local ownership and assistance, rather than foreigners.

Offering breakfast, pop up pizza's slides, focaccia, lasagna, Panini, cakes, and of course espresso coffee, cappuccino and a lunch special every day. In the same shop, you'll also find the Chan Lau grocery shop with national and international wines, beers, liquors and Italian, Mexican and Spanish gourmet and local products at fair prices. A place not to miss in Bacalar.
