This place is absolutely delicious. The crust on the pizza is the best I've ever had and I am a New Yorker. Thin and crispy and delicious! We had a veggie pizza with eggplant and zucchini and also ordered a Diavola one which has a spicy Italian sausage. We polished them both off despite the generous size, they're that good. We had been travelling though Yucatan and Campeche were desperate for something other than Yucatecan food. We found this Italian restaurant and had to give it a try. We came by on a Sunday night and the place was packed with a line out the door (a good sign). It was still early so we went around the corner to a bar and hoped that it would clear out after we had a few drinks. An hour or so later, we went back and it was still crowded but we were able to get the last available table. The owner / hostess quickly brought us menus and took our orders. There are many lackluster pizza joints in Mexico but this one is very special. There was literally a queue outside the door. It's run by an Italian couple who clearly have a passion for what they do. The wife, I presume, being the gracious and boisterous waitress and the husband cooking up a storm in the kitchen and popping his head around the corner every now and again to see of the patrons are enjoying his food. They do the best they can with the limited ingredients available in Mexico. No fresh basil on the Caprese Salad but dried basil. But it's still great. Didn't have the pasta but it looked fantastic and certainly freshly "home made". Pizzas were thin based and really tasty. If you have to eat Italian in Mexico then this is the place to do it. I did notice that the place was closed on the first night we went looking...not sure what their opening times really are but persevere. It's worth it. read more

Delicious pizza and a contrast with the rest of the dining places in Bacalar. Owned and ran by an Italian couple and their trusty host/helper/server. The food is authentic Italian, the pizza is delicious and the hours or operation are perfect for a resort town. Good atmosphere too. On the staff side, IMHO, they should keep Bertilia (chief's wife/owner) away from hosting. First and foremost, she speaks to the customers in Italian. Although I do understand it is her mother tongue, 1) we are in Mexico, 2) the menus are not in Italian 3) it is a touristic destination with people all over the world, who may speak English but less likely Italian. Also, she is all over the place. While the older Italian gentleman who helps them has a calm demeanor and is very good at what he does (and SPEAKS English), Bertilia is the complete opposite. Not a very good customer approach, hurries the customer, and goes back and forth between tables and the kitchen. She constantly wants to take every table's order instead of somebody else. Being served by one or the other is day and night. The nights we dined there, we would've preferred to have the older gentleman as our server/host. read more

Terrible! Need I say more, but I must. This place is equivalent to any Pizzateria in Mexico if they are spot on. Or as I told my wife, any pizza joint around the corner of where you live if you are not in Chicago or NY. Basura! If you just want food, you will be ok. However, the owners should be embarrassed and ashamed by promoting this place as an authentic Italian restaurant. Just because you are from Italy does not make this ITALIAN. The service from the crazy owner (lady) is rushed and she only speaks Italian. WTF. Are we not in Mexico? If you can't speak Spanish, allow the gentleman that works for you to assist. She makes you order everything (drinks/food/dessert) in a hurry or you will never see her again. We had to call over the nice gentleman as he knew what we were experiencing. It will take her at least 10 mins before you see her as she wants to take every fricken order in the establishment. The gentleman will assist and we were very grateful or we were ready to walk out. The overly possessive owner wants to take the orders and then get this; she rushes back to attempt to cook the order. We watched in horror! Really? Not a great process for any restaurant. If there is only 1 table, I get it. When the place is almost full, this is not an acceptable process for ANY restaurant. On top of that, if they claim to be Italians, how in the world do they use DRIED basil in their recipes??? They could literally grow the fresh basil in the back of the place if they wanted. This use of non fresh basil would make Nona turn over in her grave. We were so disappointed in the "real" Italian cooking, as she claimed. Save your money and go to any other pizza joint that you may come across. It is the same caliber and you will pay 1/3 of the price with a lot more gratitude for visiting. Btw, we tried the Caprese, pizza margharita, pasta pomodoro + chicken, and tiramisu (plus drinks) The latter was the only acceptable item we had all night. If you want to spend $80 + USD for "Italian " for 2, warning has been given. Go support the real locals and have some street tacos or anything else they may have available. We actually walked across the street and enjoyed the hotdogs from a local street vendor after the meal. They saved the night in Bacalar. This place is phenomenal. The food is delicious and not expensive at all. The service is outstanding in every way. We ordered a pizza and two pastas with some wine and I have to say everything was delicious. This is a place that you MUST visit when coming to Bacalar. All other places closer to the lagoon are way too overpriced and the food is not good to be honest. read more

A lot changes in 5 months ... from great to average. Main course came 2 minutes after starter was lukewarm, greasy and tasteless. According to us, day before prepared and warmed in microwave (gnocci s and lasagna). Waiter and owners smoking non stop next to the two tables outside ... Sangria delicious.In our opinion .... no more love in preparing the food .....order, eat, pay and bye bye mentality Unfortunately big disappointment comparing to 5 months back. read more
