Once again, the Yelp reviews helped me find a restaurant we will certainly return to in the future. It was a Friday night. The large gravel parking lot was about half full. The building, overlooking Lake Pokegama, looked like many other up north bars. Walking in, I really wasn't sure if we were in the right place. Happily, we were. My dining partner and I sat at the bar. We were greeted right away by the bartenders and asked for our drink orders. The drinks had a great pour and were affordable. We were asked if we wanted to eat and promptly received menus. The menu had a lot of stuff. Appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, pizza and fish. Having read reviews I was leaning toward the beef sandwich, while my dining partner wanted pizza. When the bartender said those were her favorite menu items, we decided to get one of each to split among us. Good choice! The sandwich was packed with meat and cheese. I could have drank the au jus; it was so good. While it was $22 (with fries), it would have been a big sandwich for most people to finish. The pizza was fantastic. The only pizza I enjoyed more was from a place in Nashville. The crust was top notch. The toppings were generous and prepared well. My dining partner and I are big eaters; we still had four (4) big pieces left at the end of our meal (it was great cold). It wasn't nice enough to sit outside on their large patio during our visit. We plan on returning here frequently in the future and will give it a try (weather permitting).

I recently hosted a Bachelorette party at my cabin and brought the group of girls to the Local. The owner, Mike, did everything he could to make it a special night for us - even giving us a microphone and letting us belt our hearts out to all our favorite music we were playing on the juke box. The only bummer is they don't have a kitchen. They do have a food truck on certain nights (check their Facebook page) and also a variety of frozen pizzas. Great place!

The bartender was friendly and served us a "yellow" flavored jello shots. The price was right as the drinks do not cost much, but the place could have used a once over. They had a band the night before and they hadn't quite cleaned up after, in fact the ladies from the night before were not too "lady like" (not my words, theirs). The two stars: 1 is for the excellent popcorn. 1/2 is for being a true dive bar and the other half is for having the quarter game.

The service was great, but the food was terrible. We ordered deep fried chicken and what we got was some very small and extremely dried reheated pieces. I say reheated because deep fried chicken takes more then 5 minutes to cook and it tasted reheated. Besides the dried out food, there were two dogs running around INSIDE the restaurant that bothered us most of the time by trying to sniff our laps while we were eating. it's to bad, but we won't be back.

Decorate floor to ceiling in natural wood and spice it up with taxidermy. Now add people, sometimes a lot, sometimes a few. Always loud, with or without live music. The menu is classic tavern food with an emphasis on pizza and burgers. Having had the pizza a couple of times, I find it to be generously topped and well prepared. The appetizers are good and my clam chowder was solid. My dining partners have also been happy with our experience at the restaurant. We've also been pleased with the staffing and service during our visits. When we visit the area, there is a good chance we will give the tavern a visit.
