A BBQ pizza joint? We had to check it out. We ordered take out and it was ready when they said it would be. We got a pizza and some BBQ. Pizza was just OK. Sauce was not very flavorful and crust was little too thick for my liking. We also order a BBQ pulled pork platter. The pork was tender and had some flavor but not covered in sauce. The baked beans were dry - like they had sat out all day. The creamed corn was also dry and tasted canned. The corn bread was tender and had a flavor of jalapeños (maybe) but wasn't spicy. We ordered late afternoon during the week so maybe things would be better/fresher tasting during a peak time. read more

Wow! Got a couple of pork sandwiches for lunch. Delicious and very reasonable. Lots of pork. The Carolina had just the right amount of heat and taste. Pork was moist and tender. Had the Italian too. My family had a celebration of life. We decided to serve barbeque . We chose Pappy's based on reviews. They were correct. I spoke with Amanda who went above & beyond to help. She was in constant contact and very helpful. When Amanda wasn't available Matt was extremely helpful and also went beyond to be helpful. We ordered sandwich trays, pulled pork and pulled chicken. The pulled pork and pulled chicken were delicious. The meat was lean and pulled nicely. All the sauces were tasty and served on the side. The sandwich tray was beautifully displayed. The meat portions were generous, the fixings on top were fresh and the bread was good. If you want to eat in, take out or have catered I would highly recommend Pappy's. The food is delicious. We discovered Pappy's the last time we visited Ocean City. Since then, it has became a must stop for us whenever we are close to the area. The pizza itself is your typical Jersey pizza, but the combination of cheese, bbq sauce and the juicy succulent pork makes it almost an out of body experience. Our friends wanted to do a pig roast for Memorial Day, but thankfully they decided to just go with BBQ catering. I'm not a vegetarian but there would be no way I could eat seeing a pig roast all day. The food was very good, there were spare ribs, wings, pulled pork, baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad & pasta salad & fresh rolls & corn bread. I absolutely loved the sides & the baked beans were cooked with brown sugar just sweet enough the way I like it. The pulled pork was cooked perfectly, not too dry not too moist, the same with the ribs, however I thought it was odd that they didn't give you any BBQ sauce on the side of you wanted to add more. ( I always add more ) I'm not sure if that was an option to add to the catering but it wasn't my order/BBQ because I definitely would have wanted that sauce for my sandwich and ribs. I am only basing this review on their cheesesteak and fries, which I've had twice (not my choice). Their cheesesteaks are ok; however, I requested and paid for "extra cheese" both times. Both times cheese wasn't even visible on the CHEESEsteak. Also, the fries are horrible, overcooked and still soggy. The amount of meat is pretty good. I'm a Voltacco's cheesesteak guy, by far, but if you want cheesesteak in the off-season, go with Randazzo's. Very similar, but they actually give you a good amount of cheese. Pappy's is also way overpriced for what you get. read more

Spur of the moment dinner for the family, got the Buffalo chicken sandwich and pulled pork sandwich along with chicken fingers and fries for the kids. Can't decide which sandwich was better because they were both delicious. The prices have gone up recently, as well as the extra tax for using a card all the businesses have started doing. Stellar! On a whim, we pulled off the highway and stopped here- it was well worth it. It's a small hole in the wall type of place with a no frills, nothing fancy type of atmosphere and the food was FANTASTIC! My husband had the pulled pork- he is from the Carolina's and quite the BBQ expert- he said his sandwich was the stuff that BBQ dreams are made of. I would agree re the turkey hoagie I had- I have been searching for this exact kind of amazing hoagie for 32 years- the roll really makes it- the paper thin onions, lettuce and tomato just elevate it all to another level. Food was horrible we ordered an 8 piece chicken platter when we got home the pieces consisted of mostly wings with 3 very overcooked thighs.Everything was so overcooked that I was afraid I would break a tooth! The fries were greasy and hard. A customer entered after us ordered and he got his order as we sat another ten minutes, no they weren't busy and the phone only rang once after we were picking up our order. All of the reviews on here are very old. This place wasn't a typical BBQ joint where it looks and smells like BBQ with the charcoal flair. Where were the pigs? For a pig roast, there wasn't a pig in sight or smell. It didn't seem like a restaurant where people would eat. It was empty. We never eat in restaurants that are empty. The only thing I'd have negative to say is that the sandwiches don't come with fries. Food prices very expensive. Quality for the price is not warranted. Disappointed. I ordered the 1/2 rack spare ribs. The barbecue sauce tasted more like pizza sauce. Cost was around $14.00, very disappointed. A few days later went to shoprite got their to go 1/2 rack ribs for 1/2 the cost and liked them better and the savings. I have gotten a roast whole pig two years in a row from Pappy's, for a family reunion both times. My cousins are all Texans and loved the pig, I am a trained chef and I loved the pig as well as the other 40 people who ate from it both times. I would say that this place was not bad. Wasn't great but not bad either. Kate said she would go again. The prices are fair and the pulled pork sandwiches are massive. We both had the Jersey pork sandwich. It comes with a southern sauce and slaw. The slaw was good and crunchy and added to the sandwich. We also got some sides. We had their Sweet Mashed potatoes and they were ok but nothing special. The potato salad and baked beans were pretty good but once again nothing to special. My boyfriend and I stopped in this place on our way back to Maryland, and not being from the area, had no idea that it sucked. Not only did the pizza which I ordered make me sick for more than 10 hours afterwards, the old woman who works there is not a friendly person. In fact, this woman was very hateful towards me. I walked in before my boyfriend and approached the counter, and the old woman turned around because she heard the door. She glanced my direction, turned her head, and kept doing what she was doing as though I were not even standing there. No, hello-- nothing. Since we were starved and could not find anywhere else to look (after driving around) and had to catch a ferry, we ate at this nasty slop house and put up with the hate stares which the old woman gave me the entire time. I LOVE buffalo wings. I have my favorite wing places, but I'm always open to new wing experiences. My parents love Pappy's for wings. I took them to the C-View in Cape May for my favorite wings, and they said Pappy's were almost as good so I figured I'd give it a try. I was so disappointed. It was a Saturday night so I figured it'd be a good night to get wings, but they were undercooked and undersauced and very underyummy. I'm 0 for 3 with the new places I've tried recently. You don't go to a BBQ joint for pizza! Pappy's pizza is just average, if you want pizza in Ocean City go to Mack Mancos, but if you want really excellent BBQ Pappy's is the place to go!
