My experience with Paradise Tree Service was first-rate. We live in Suey Creek Canyon and we had 13 California live oak trees that were in serious need of reduction for fire prevention. Several of the limbs had grown too close to the house and some were extending out over the roof. One of the trees looked to me that it was ready to fall and if it did it would have landed on some of the other trees and could have pushed them onto the house. I had called another tree service and when asked if it was an emergency, I said yes, however they were not able to come to even give me an estimate for another four days. I called Paradise Tree Service and spoke with Gil, and he came out that day. He checked the property and gave me an estimate. We agreed on the cost and he and his crew began work the next day. I am pleased with the work that was done and that the crew cleaned up all of the dead wood and the debris from the yard. My second time using Paradise. Nothing but great results both times. He came out on Thursday to give me a bid for trimming a large oak and a smaller tree. They managed to fit me in prior to a big job on the following day. My oak now looks like an oak tree instead of an oak bush. They did a great job and took care of all the plants underneath and around the tree. Cleanup was excellent, no complaints. This company went door to door to each of my neighbors using a scare tactic about the trees, told my daughter that our tree was going to fall, then proceeded to the neighbor using the same approach about our tree. I have had tree arborist look at the tree and said it was fine. They also scared another neighbor so they got a estimate it was well over 35% higher then two different tree outfits. I contacted Paradise Tree Service (PTS) yesterday to get an estimate to trim 6 trees. They told me they would be here today between 12 pm and 1 pm. At 12:08 pm today, I called PTS to see if they could be more specific on their time of arrival. The call was sent to voicemail so I left a message giving my name & number and reason for the call. Then, at 1:29 pm today, I called again to see what was going on. I do not know the name of the man that answered my call. He said he was too busy to come by today and asked if he could come by tomorrow. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? O HELL NO! Not only did they not call me this morning saying they could not come by today (like any responsible business would do), but they didn't even bother to return the voicemail I left today at 12:08. Gil and his expert team of workers trimmed 28 oak trees on the property. The trees were heavy and lopsided in their growth. They carefully cut out dead branches, crossing branches and heavy growth to balance each tree. Our pasture now looks like a cathedral of oaks! The workers are very knowledgeable, expert climbers and bucket operators. They cleaned up and chipped all the down wood at the end of each day. We couldn't be happier with their work. We had a row of trees that were in need of removal, Paradise came up on my Angie's list query, I figured I'd get bids from the top 3. Within an hour Gil was by to assess our trees, he was professional and gave a great bid. But that is not where the great service ended. The next morning, July 3, he and the crew were at the house, they listened to our expectations and went above and beyond, even bringing in a tractor to spread the chips and level the area. They are amazing! All the workers are professional and were more than willing to accommodate my wishes. Gil is a terrific boss who has gathered an amazing crew. I was blown away . . . and I am not that easy to please! When Gil left, at the end of the day, he said, "You are now one of our customers, we will always take care of you." We have had crews remove trees in the past, they have broken things, left a mess, and couldn't give a rip. This is not the case with Paradise Tree Service. They did a real good job for which I was charged a fair price. A few months later an issue came up where part of the remaining trunk/root that was grinded was going to interfere with a new tree that I was to plant. I left a message for Rick on a Thursday wondering if he would be available on short notice (by that upcoming Saturday) to trim some palm trees on my property. I got a return call the same day and Rick was able to send a crew out a day early, on Friday afternoon! The crew and Rick showed up early, and he walked the entire property with me as I pointed out what would need to be done. He not only listened to what I said but also made suggestions along the way on things that would improve the street view and make my yard look spectacular. He then took his crew and repeated this process thoroughly explaining everything he and I had discussed. His crew was extremely polite and efficient, and completed all of the work in a timely manner. They also did a phenomenal job of cleanup. The crew and Rick were constantly checking in with me to make sure everything was up to the standard I preferred. After everything was completed and the job finished for the day, Rick called me the next day as a follow up ensure I was satisfied with their service and didn't need anything additional fixed. Rick Centner- Arborist has an amazing crew. Joe DeLeon, the front man, is a good listener and works well with his crew. He gave me a reasonable bid and did the work in a timely manner. The crew is knowledgeable about how tree trimming and removal works. They removed three palm trees and cleaned up my huge podocarpus. The team did a beautiful job of shaping the large tree, sculpting it ever so subtly to allow more light into my house, yet preserving my and my neighbor's privacy. I bought my house two years ago because of the great landscaping. Unfortunately, the landscaping looked good, but so many things were wrong with it--Almond trees planted next to the foundation and fanned out against the wall, palm trees hanging over the fireplace, etc. I had those taken care of right away knowing I'd have more work to do in the future. Then COVID happened and everyplace just about shut down. I've been trying since MAY to have someone come take care of some dead and diseased Italian Cypress as well as a lovely Cook Pine that was poorly tied to another pine and half of the tree fell down during a wind storm. I also needed a Jacaranda that had not rooted well and was half dead fixed up, a fan palm needing care and an orange/lemon tree that had grown too huge for me to maintain. They were doing some work across the street and one of their guys came to my door. I saw they were a tree company and figured they'd take my name and someone would "call" me. Nope, they gave me a reasonable quote within 15 minutes and finished their job across the street. I expected the work to take the rest of the day at least--but because they're professionals who come prepared to do their job all 11 trees were taken care of, cleaned up, hauled away and they even did some extra trimming of bushes that had overgrown and picked up some yard debris that my regular gardener (who just came an hour before they knocked on my door) had left in a pile in my back yard. All in all, from the time they knocked on my door until the time every single thing I asked for was done the way I asked for it, my yard was clean and shiny and they even left recommendations for future work that I hadn't even noticed. You can tell these guys know what they're doing! I literally have left messages and asked for quotes for over 10 different tree companies since May and not one has even bothered to call back. Now that I've found them, I won't be calling anyone else ever again! Rick, John and his crew were about as perfect as I could expect. I had a few dense Melaleuca trees growing over my neighbor's property, and dropping so much organic debris over our lawns. These guys do great work! I recently had them out to trim 2 very large birds of paradise and a large podocarpus tree. The team did a great job of communicating between themselves during the job and worked seamlessly. They arrived on time and cleaned up everything before they left - they had a chipper at the curb and took all debris away. They checked in during the job to ensure we were happy with the work we expected too, which was great. I have hired other SLO county tree services in the past, but Paradise Tree Service has been the best. We noticed some sprinkler damage caused by the Paradise guys a couple weeks after and contacted Gil. It was obvious that the damage was caused by Paradise and they absolutely would have noticed when they did the damage, but took us a while to notice the water shooting out as we only have our sprinklers on at night. It was very disappointing that they didn't mention the damage at the time. I contacted Gil and after a couple of missed appointments he came and took a look. He agreed that it was their mistake and after a few calls with my gardener, Gil agreed to pay my gardener $75 to repair the damage. For ease we arranged that I would pay the gardener and Gill/Paradise would mail me a check for the $75 to reimburse me. All sounded fine...but I'm still waiting for the $75 and it has been months. I've left several messages and texts for Gil and until recently he always responded with a "sorry it's been crazy with the holidays" or "I will follow up with the office to make sure the check is sent today" or similar. Also, Gil mentioned several times that we would receive a gift if we posted a review on Yelp. He made a big point of the gift saying is was something really special. Not really necessary as I would have posted on Yelp anyway as we were initially pleased and felt the work, although somewhat pricey at $3,800, was really good... but we never received a gift. For these reasons I did not recommend Paradise to my neighbors when they asked and won't use them again myself. Which is a shame as they had me as an advocate. read more
