I waited a week hoping that I might feel better about the job they did, but every time I look at the way they hacked up the trees in my front yard I feel rage and sadness. We had 3 large Liquidambar trees in the front yard. My husband asked that they trim branches away from the street light/ power lines, and that they trim some of the lower branches. They cut and cut and cut. When I asked why they cut so much, I got told "your husband told us too". No, he didn't. Now I have what looks like 3 phone poles with some stuff on top. My shade is gone. The trees look like crap. And everyone at the company just told me, "don't worry, it will grow back". No it won't. Branches are gone. My father was in the nursery business for 50 years, he's never seen anything like it. It looks BAD. If you decide to have them do any work besides cutting a tree down, watch and approve of every cut. read more

Once again, Bunyon Bros. comes through in a somewhat difficult situation! Several overgrown, poorly tended trees, at least 1 presenting a fire danger, on a neighboring property (with 3 of them encroaching over our property line) were contracted by the neighbor to be addressed by a tree service. The neighbor knew our concerns re: properly taking care of the trees, but also removing the encroachment, and our concern that this be completed before fireworks season around 4th July due to increased fire concerns. We were extremely pleased to see that it was Bunyon Bros arriving early morning at their property and I went out to show crew where they could enter our backyard as needed and show ground crew lead how much encroachment of large oak needed to be removed. Shockingly, he told me they were instructed only to thin the inner branches of this huge overgrown oak tree and not do ANY shaping or reduction of the exterior canopy of the tree! Clearly, we needed to have the encroachment trim done at our own expense whether the rest of the tree was shaped properly as it should be that day, or not. Thanks to the established relationships with Bunyon Bros from 2018 and all the attention my previous Yelp review gained, and their incredible professionalism, I was fairly confident we could get encroachment issue addressed promptly same day since crew and equipment were already there. A phone call, quick explanation, an on-site assessment within the hour by Shaun, estimate email and approval within minutes of that and crew completed everything to our satisfaction in 1 hour's time! And, they were incredibly nice about it, too. It's been my experience that people usually are very nice when they know they're doing the right thing at the right time and it's appreciated! Bunyon Bros has a 5 star reputation for a reason. This kind of logical, knowledgeable, competent performance in stressful circumstances is just 1 of the reasons why. read more

A few years ago I hired a tree trimming company (see my past reviews) and they were terrible, so I was very nervous about hiring a tree service again. Bill came and met with me to go over my needs and I decided to book one day of service. They were super busy so it took a while to actually get on the schedule, but Bill was excellent about keeping in touch and updating me. It's not cheap, but they bring 4 guys and 2 trucks and a chipper. I have a beautiful cork oak that hadn't been trimmed in at least 5 years if not longer. They did an incredible job on it and they also trimmed some almond trees and eucalyptus. They were very skilled and artistic about it - clearing out the dead wood and any branches that risked falling. They also took down a huge eucalyptus tree with amazing skill. Then they chopped everything and left me the chips. As well, the cleaned up the debris as much as possible and used a blower to get rid of fallen leaves. Overall a great service. I look forward to hiring them again next year for another day or two of service. read more

First off - I'm not the customer. Crew 4 was outside my big window and I watched them over the past 2 hours as they expertly removed a tricky, 25' tall yucca tree from my neighbor's side yard. The tools, the coordination, the teamwork - all of it was top rate and choreographed like a dance by masters of their trade. Having a tree removed, in my opinion, is right up towards the top of the list of things you shouldn't decide on by the price of the lowest bid. I can not say enough about the service we received from Bill, Papi and the crew. Bill, the Certified Arborist, came out multiple times to adjust the quote since I changed my mind on what I wanted done. We had a pretty technical job and I had three companies come out to advise us on how to get a specific tree out. I felt the most comfortable with Bill and their bid was fair given the difficulty of the job. Our job took two days and each day the crew showed up on time and left my house and my neighbor's yard clean and tidy. All the men on the crew were very polite, friendly and professional. VERY DISAPPOINTING tree trimming with a tragic outcome. There is an old saying, do not use a sledge hammer to drive home a finishing nail. I had (purposeful past tense) a beautiful 45 year old pine tree on my front lawn. It had even received accolades from the City of Grover Beach in the past. Every couple of years it would require trimming to reduce the weight of the branches and to assure that offshoot branches did not interfere with the house for safety reasons. This was done for years by a local tree trimmer who a few years back left the area. Enter present day 2022 Bunyon Bros., claiming to be experts in this area to now take on the job. Once again, the tree simply needed offshoot branches removed as was done for all those years past. Bunyon claimed their experts were up to trimming the tree. Well, they trimmed the tree allright. Instead of surgically removing the offending offshoot branches, these guys broke out the heavy equipment and literally chopped off three of the major braches of the tree (which contained the majority of the beauty) leaving a tree truck with a carrot top. This tree certainly will never receive anymore accolades from the City of Grover Beach. I have posted a picture of this with this review. Notice in the picture that all three major branches that were cut off were facing away from the house and thus posed NO danger to the house. It were some of the offshoot branches on those major branches which required removal for both safety of the house and for removing weight on these major branches. If these guys are experts, they would have known this. Of course they say that they accomplished the tree trimming which removed the weight and preserved the safety of the house. That is a true statement. But at what cost? Here is a perfect analogy. When someone's finger nails get long, most people get nail cutters and trim their nails back to get the job done. The job can also be done by sawing off both your arms. Alas, no more long finger nails. These guys sawed off the arms of the tree and it was totally unnecessary. To make matters worse, they did not dress the sawed off branches, thereby leaving them exposed to allow the introduction of potential disease. Of course I know (and they would say) that it is no longer the standard practice to dress these sawed off branch areas. However, the protocol has exceptions to prevent disease. Thus, if the branches are cut during the Spring or Summer time OR if conditions are dry (as in a drought), sawed off branch stubs should be dressed (according to published arborist protocols). These branches were cut during the Spring time AND we are in a drought, so both exceptions exist. As experts, they should know this. And lastly, to add insult to injury; remember that carrot top they left on the tree? Well despite them having the big extended bucket, they didn't even take the time to remove the dead pine straw from the small amount of tree they left to allow it to breath better. Astonishing. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a tree trimmer and do not recommend them. read more
