Specialties
Paradox Thyme consists of cooking classes where guests relax and Sandy or her husband Terry cooks a predetermined menu that includes a main entree, appetizer, salad, and dessert. Complimentary libation is included, and while guests relax, they observe techniques and sample specialty herbs or flavors used in preparation of the meal.
New menus are featured each week for Thursday and Friday nights. Guests receive the recipes to keep and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or beer to sip as they observe the meal preparation. Since all classes take place in a home kitchen where 8 guests per class is the maximum space limit, reservations are required at least 2 days in advance. Guests may choose a Thursday night class or a Friday night class.
Paradox Thyme currently accepts checks or cash only. Plans to continue classes throughout the year are being developed and a website will be available shortly.
History
Established in 2017.
Paradox Thyme was created in May of 2017 to afford residents and vacationers another dining opportunity that is unique, affordable, and informative. Customers enjoy a relaxed home atmosphere where conversation, laughter, and learning how to prepare each item on the menu is fun.
The home is a true Adirondack wonder, with beginnings in the 1930s as an old granary sent on snow runners downhill to serve as a vacation rental cabin. Situated in the quaint community of Paradox, it overlooks a brook, creek and provides a breathtaking view of Hoffman Mountain.
Having retired from teaching, and after attending cooking classes for 30 years, and catering for 3 years, we decided to start cooking classes, making use of all we had learned.
As a young business, we rely on word of mouth and flyers posted in community areas. Online advertising has begun in local lake newspapers. We are planning to continue as a year round business.
Meet the Business Owner: Sandra C.
Sandy and Terry Courneen started Paradox Thyme to connect with our Adirondack neighbors and do what we love to do: Cook! We started cooking classes because it's a fun way to meet others and enjoy a meal together.
