Both of my children attend ACE Academy in Austin. We are so very happy that we moved to this school…read moreand wish we'd done it sooner. Both children are appropriately challenged in their classes, learning a ton and having fun doing so. Material is never dry and boring but interesting and presented in a variety of ways. This is a great school for gifted kids and the administration and teachers are incredibly supportive and truly know and appreciate each child as a unique individual who each has different skills and different needs. The social and emotional support is thoughtfully delivered and thorough. My kids love their friends and their teachers at ACE!

My son was in the public school system at a highly-rated school for three years (K-2) before we…read moreswitched to ACE. While the public school was doing its best, my son, who was tested as Gifted, was not learning much and, due to the funding shortages, was not getting specialized attention. In the Fall of his 2nd year in the public school, I talked to his teacher, and she told me that while she would love to feed my son with more advanced materials, she did not have the time or resources with 22 kids in the class. She was the one who told us that if we had the means, we should move our son to a private school. That is when we started our search among the private schools in Austin and decided on ACE after visiting five private schools in the area. We decided on ACE because of its individualized approach to each kid academically and its main emphasis on social-emotional learning. My son is gifted but is not neurodivergent and does not present any specific social-emotional issues. At first, we were concerned whether the small classes (there are 11 in my son's class) would be socially limiting and whether having some 2E children in the school would take attention away from "not neurodivergent kids" like my son to more neurodivergent kids but it has been three months since we started at ACE and we could not be happier. My son is happy every morning and is excited about school. We love how they have been listening to us as parents, adjusting their approaches to each kid when they deem changes necessary, and how they are fully supporting each kid in terms of social-emotional learning. I am only disappointed that we did not make this change to ACE any earlier!

About 9 years ago, I found myself dragging my oldest kiddo to preschool each morning. He fought…read moreevery step of the way and I was exhausted by the time I dropped him off every day. It was a miserable feeling. I was so relieved when summer arrived and we had camp at Crenshaw. The same resistant 4 year old was suddenly dressing himself and rushing ME out the door to go to Crenshaw. The difference was night and day and that's what made me know we had to give the Palaestra Preschool Program a try. Three kiddos later, I could not be happier or say more about the Palaestra Preschool Program. Not only does it address kindergarten readiness, but the daily movement means that my kids come home tired. In addition, each summer my kiddos are ready to jump right into the pool because they've been swimming all year long. This is ideal because of the Texas heat, but it's also frankly a safety issue. As much as I could go on about the whole child model of the Palaestra Program, the most special thing about it is perhaps less obvious. Crenshaw is a family owned and operated business, and they have built a beautiful community around that. From the swim fitness retirees, to the diverse staff, to the tiny tots barely out of diapers, Crenshaw is truly its own little village and I am so deeply grateful that my boys have gotten to experience what it means to be a part of that.

Small student ratios make it possible to give lots of individual attention and encourages close, long lasting friendships among peers. Teachers who stay in their area of expertise and a rotating class schedule keep both students and teachers fresh throughout the day. Our Preschool program runs from 7:45 to 12:00 and offers an extended option from 12:00 to 2:45. You can choose from 5 day, 3 day or 2 day a week. Wow, what can I say, I feel like we won the jackpot when we found Magellan. our daughter started in…read moreKindergarten and although she isn't very good at adapting or transitions, she immediately fell in love with her teachers and school friends.. There are no cliques and no bullying and when we have had issues we have raised them with the teachers and they have jumped on them to solve them immediately, and unlike other private schools there's no sense of entitlement from the parents or students. Also, because the school is so good at awarding scholarships not everyone is 'rich'! The school also has a great parent teacher association which offer weekly meet-ups and play dates as well as adult only events. Each class also has a WhatsApp chat group so parents can easily communicate with each other. If it sounds like one big happy family you'd be right, that's exactly what it feels like. In terms of academics my adhd child has thrived. Diagnosed at 4 we thought she would struggle but the school has been amazing at supporting her needs and accommodating her. They also offer many different seating types from a bouncy ball chair, to cushions on the floor and other such. It's very holistic and non political and offers many diverse ways of learning. They have a calming corner, encourage reading and emotional open communication as well many other ways of teaching emotional and academic intelligence. They teach in Spanish from day one and introduce Mandarin from 3rd grade, they also teach following the international Baccalaureate which is amazing. It teaches the children self confidence through weekly presentations and teaches them autonomy. Honestly this school is amazing and now it goes until 12th grade we are obsessed and so you will be too. But, sshh don't tell anyone about our secret slice of heaven.

Hands down, my husband and I feel it is best decision we have made for his education. Although it can be a bit pricey, we have felt that it has been worth every dollar. He is growing up to be a well spoken, well thought, caring little human. I love that he is bilingual, but I really love his open minded views and his eagerness to learn. The teachers... the teachers have all been so amazing. They are loving, caring and really take each student's personalities and abilities into consideration as they grow from year to year. As I said, it's not the cheapest option and we do discuss yearly if we will be renewing his tuition-- and, with each year this answer comes easier and easier with an astounding "YES". We love the school, the community, the parents and look forward to many more years at Magellan!
