Two days later it's sold to yet another buyer, on terms we would have matched. We get it, it's a crazy market, so reputation and ethics matter even more. This company was the listing agent for a house we bought. I've come to question their ethics…read more When we saw the house, the agent volunteered that the kitchen was remodeled and that "it is very high quality. Not IKEA." After moving in, we learned that the entire kitchen was IKEA. We don't have a problem with IKEA and we like the kitchen, but we think either she was lying or made an uninformed comment probably trying to appeal to clientele that have expensive taste. When we asked if there are rental properties around us, she seemed to purposefully give us a vague answer. After we moved in, we learned that both sides of us are rentals. Again, we actually like these people and don't have a problem with renters per se, but we feel like she was being deceitful. Finally, after moving in, we discovered a significant foundation defect hidden behind a makeshift wooden landing. The landing seemed odd to us when we saw the house, considering the immaculate condition of the rest of the house. I didn't think too much about it because I assumed that any issues would be disclosed and the inspector would catch anything else. I find it hard to believe that a seasoned agent did not know this or at least question the buyer as to why something so out of place is in plain site, especially when it is very unattractive and detracts from the aesthetics of the house. Of course, it is the obligation of the seller to disclose this to the agent. Based on what we know about the seller, I believe that the seller probably did disclose it. Overall, we are happy with the house, but we feel the agent was not honest in dealing with us.
