The pond, the small waterfall, the cobble-stone paths, the library (now over 100 years old), the green spaces, the variety of huge, mature trees which give plenty of shade, you can easily pick up lunch on the go on Sherbrooke street and come over and spend an afternoon here spread out on a blanket, either chilling out with a great friend or a great book. There were a lot of shade options around and seating that seemed permanent to the park, which is rare at festivals. One of the better parts of the experience was the transit. Getting there via ferry was quick (once I figured out which pier was the right one). Leaving the venue was even better. They had trains lined up and ready to go. As fast as one could fill up, the next one was there and ready to fill up as well. I was at the front of main stage for that headliner, and from there to getting off of my main metro stop back in Old Montreal was no more than 20 minutes. we set out to hike parc du mont royal, one of montreal's most iconic green spaces and a beloved…read moreescape from the city. designed in the 1870s by landscape architect frederick law olmsted, who also designed new york's central park, the park covers a large portion of mount royal and offers walking trails, viewpoints, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature right in the heart of montreal. thinking it would be a straightforward hour and five minute trek, we quickly learned that our timeline was a little optimistic. naturally, the hike turned into a much longer adventure with plenty of pit stops along the way. before tackling the climb, we wandered through the area, stopping at mngo, decathlon, a k-beauty store, and even a museum before finally making our way up the mountain. by the time we started the hike, we had already turned it into a full day of exploring. the trail itself was well maintained, with a mix of shaded pathways and plenty of stairs to keep things interesting. the overcast sky made the climb much more manageable, although it was still quite the workout. between the greenery, the incline, and the steady stream of steps, there were definitely moments when the beads of sweat and the sunscreen threatening to run into my eye, reminded me that this was more than just a casual stroll. the grounds were clean and well cared for, with shaded sections that offered welcome breaks along the way. after the climb, we were rewarded with a panoramic view of montreal from the belvédère lookout, where the city skyline stretches out below. it's one of those views that makes you forget about tired legs for a moment. on the way down, we stumbled across the towering cross, one of mont royal's most recognizable landmarks, and decided to take a quieter, less travelled path. the change of scenery was worth it, and we even spotted a little chipmunk along the way, a perfect reminder that we were surrounded by nature despite being right in the middle of the city. with fresh air, lush greenery, and just enough challenge to feel accomplished, the hike up parc du mont royal was a memorable part of our montreal adventure. just remember to bring water, sunscreen, and be prepared for a few more steps than you might expect.

Montreal's Central Park The View…read more I've visited twice. Once at night for the city light view from the Chalet terrace about a decade ago. This time (2026) for the day views and visits to the Cross and to the Lake. When I came about 10 years ago at night time, the crowd was much lighter and chill. Also, I saw an owl sitting on the tree along the walking path! Today's visit on a late summer holiday weekday, it was super crowded with locals, cyclists going up the Mont, joggers and tourists. Parking was tight as were trails to 3 major sites on Mont Royal. The Cross was rather disappointing as the trail was a gravelly loop apx 1.6km without a reward vista. Also the hiking trails of the main road were riddled with poison ivy :/. The Chalet was open (unlike my earlier night visit)! Inside were a coffee shop, a gift shop, bathrooms and a big room with a lodge style ceiling. The viewing terrace was super packed with people though everyone was accommodating with photo opportunities. The view was nice with the buildings and bridges. Drastically different than the sparkling lights at night! Tried to go to the Lake but couldn't get a paid parking spot. And after 3 loops, I passed after hearing it's rather dirty with some ducks. Perhaps bc it was a holiday weekend, this Labor Day, Monday was crowded and the cyclists moved faster than cars. I would NOT repeat the day visit unless it's for exercises. The Cross IMO isn't worth it and the Lake parking is too much of a bother. The night views of Montreal from the Chalet terrace on a clear night beats everything I've experienced today.

No really...I wasn't that excited, but I was up for it and we packed our balaclavas and lots of layers of clothing, so we might as well use it right? We're so glad we did it. The park itself looks quite large. We only did a portion of it as it was super cold. So we took the trail to the rapids which is pretty and you get to see the city from there. The trail is nicely marked and you can actually go all the way around the lake that's there. We just turned around after getting to the rapids. It's quite picturesque and some folks were doing cross country skiing around the park. Definitely a lovely spot to get a view and just get outside.

Call it what you will because wise people call this place by many names and call it what you want because you have free human agency. Yes, indeed, denizens of the good hood of Lady Grace, sometimes we may be No Dame Good but we sure do know damn well how to chillax on a beautiful Montreal day. Yes, citizens of the Deeg, small and large, young and old, squirrel and human, all seek refuge in this park to congregate (whilst respecting the public health and safety protocols to reduce the transmission of COVID-19) and have an excellent time. Yes, the who's who of NDG chill at this park; you've got Rebecca Anne Clark feeding the squirrels sunflower seeds whilst sitting under her favourite Maple tree with her stylish lawn chair, you've got Sarah Ring and Aurora Robinson organising the next NDG Portchfest, you've got Christopher Brown speaking truth to power, you've got elected officials like NDG borough councillor Peter McQueen riding his bike and talking to constituents, you've got the guy who does an improvised yoga/parkour hybrid, you've got the dude who practices his LARPing with a gigantic and extremely heavy wooden sword, you've got the skateboarders filming their skate videos, you've got the dude playing the bagpipes, you've got the couple low-key having sex on the grass in broad daylight, you've got the dog walkers in the dog park, and you've got many other people to people watch. There are lots of amenities in the park and in the vicinity. Yes, this park has got it all and that's not even the beginning of it. Please get a whole grain baguette or pita, some houmous, some vege pâté, some ferments and pickles, and some delicious fruit. Bring a little rose kombucha. Have a little picnic and in the words of KC and the Sunshine Band, "do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight."

Quiet and hidden just how I like them…read more It's in the most beautiful part of westmount the type of area where the houses are "ouuuu" and "ahhhh" worthy. I decided to come for a picnic and didn't want to get stuck fighting for picnic tables in every other packed park. This place was just right, quiet and you have a great view from the bleacher. There's a few entrances to the park, I however came by the street and came down a little flight of cement stairs that lead us to a huge well maintained soccer field. There's 3 sets of bleachers 2-4 benches around the field as well as 2 benches under a gazebo. There's a water fountain to drink from right beside the gazebo as well as a huge deck area that has a look out of the rest of the park. At the look out you will notice a dog park to your left and a tennis court to the right there's stairs on either sides of the building to bring you to them.

This is a beautiful park in Westmount and quieter than the always busy Westmount park as it is a…read morebit off the beaten path (and you have to walk uphill to get to it). Set on a large sweeping hill with beautiful views of the city, it is a delightful setting for a picnic or just a quiet place to stretch out with a book. A friend told me it was modelled on the Primrose Hill park in London but I don't know if that's just urban myth. On the east side of the park about halfway up there is a nice playground for kids, and a bit further up near the top there is a small wading pool in the summer. There is also a dog park, tennis courts and soccer field at the top of the park. In winter, it's a great spot to take the little ones sledding.
