When my wife was alive it was our 'go-to' place because we knew it was ALWAYS going to be good...it was always packed and it wasn't uncommon to have to wait to get seated. Took the extended family there 2 weekends ago...and I'll never go back. Shouldn't have gone in this time. You can tell a LOT by how something is maintained...and if you park in the back and look along the roof...you'll see huge holes and parts rotted out. My three favorite items are the southwest salad with cilantro ranch dressing, crispy beef tacos (à la carte) and their grilled chicken sandwich. The salad seemingly grows in size as you eat it! I've found no other restaurant which can make better tacos and as a fan of grilled chicken sandwiches, theirs is the ultimate finest! Plus they always have the best tunes playing in the background. We have been to Paredes a few times and never had issues however tonight was terrible. The food had been out in the hot plates so long it was hard, the fish was soggy, the hush puppies were rocks. The fried chicken wasn't hot in the middle. It was a disaster. I told the lady at the front and she got uppity and argued with me saying "look at all these people, there is no way the food was cold." Ma'am. It was in front of us. I know it was cold. We paid for our meal and left, the woman argued the food was fine and then made us pay full price even though we only ate salad after finding the food no good. read more

We really wanted to like this place. We had high hopes. Unfortunately, not so much. We should have known when the salsa had no flavor and my fajita plate was not sizzling when it was brought to the table. My husband ordered the beef fajitas which he rated 5 out of 10. However, my Monterey grilled chicken fajitas were rubbery and tasted they like were frozen and microwaved with sliced processed cheese melted on top. What should have been grilled mushrooms appeared the be from a can and thrown on top at the last minute. If it weren't for the almost burnt bacon the food would have had no flavor at all. I could not eat more than 4 bites. I even had my husband try my food to make sure I wasn't being too picky. He agreed the chicken did not taste like grilled chicken at all. This is an edit to my earlier review. I was complaining because my debit card was charged more than my bill by about $3. I had seen that other people had experienced the same problem. I sent an email to the restaurant, but didn't get a response, but I just looked at my bank statement and saw that the charge has been corrected. So I am happy about that. read more

I only gave it a one star to be able to write a review, me and my mom ate here today for lunch at 11:00, I figured everything would be fresh and hot. This is a buffet. My mom got the fish and I got the fried chicken. The fish was overcooked, hard as a rock, I mentioned it to the guy who brings the food out and he laughed and said yep, he took the prices that were over cooked off the buffet, I couldn't eat that chicken, it was not fresh at all, I chewed and chewed, I mentioned it to the waitress, I asked her how old is this chicken, and she said it was left over from the day before, that is nothing is wrong with the food on the buffet they simply reheat it and reserve it. My bill was $32.00, my mom got tea and I got water. I will absolutely not ever eat here again, the flies were terrible. I was discriminated against - as a seriously handicapped senior , I went in with my service dog and walking with a cane (as I have done many times in the past). I drove over an hour to get there and I specifically requested a booth that was close and in sight of the buffet. It was early, and there were booths available, but the SOB was trying to insist on putting me far from the buffet. at a table in a back room. I told the SOB that was not going to work. He was an absolute ass... told me to suit myself. I don't think he took me seriously when I said I would be spreading the word. It will not stop with Yelp and Trip advisor. Traveling through Mineola and drove past this restaurant. The parking lot was packed. We thought , must be good if all the locals are eating here. Loved this place. Buffet was good and there was a good selection. Chicken, pork, ham with all the fixins. Also had some Mexican dishes. The Ice cream was delicious and went great with the cheery cobbler . Food is good and service is always friendly. They have the best salsa in town and there's always a booth ready to sit at. Well, todays visit didn't go well. The server never came to check on me but kept checking on everyone else around me. I never got my ticket so the sever rang me up at the register and charged me twice when she knew I was sitting alone. As I got up to pay for my meal, she was just standing at the entry chatting with a coworker that was on her cellphone. Highly disappointed. I don't think I'll be coming back again. read more

Our family enjoys this buffet! They have a good variety of food every night. Our favorite items are the catfish, fried chicken, and enchiladas (plus get lettuce and tomato from the salad bar). The kids love the cinnamon roll and Mac and cheese here. Plus the soft serve is a huge ending. I like 2 take 2 sugar cookies and make an ice cream sandwich! I ate here per my 75 year old fathers request. He said it was mediocre before going. We both ordered the buffet. Nearly all the food was cold. The homemade mashed potatoes and cabbage was good but I caught myself looking around for a microwave. The salad was fresh. The Mexican and meat options were terrible. I think the best thing I tried was the fried fish oddly. I only tried one or two bites of each item due to disappointment or temperature. I don't trust cold food because that means it may have been sitting out a while. At the end I thought there is always ice cream! Well, no toppings available either.. I will say our female waitress was very kind. My bottom line is cold food, overly sauced Mexican food, and pretty terrible selections. I am giving it a 4 star. People that give Paredes anything less are lost souls. They are expecting something else when they walk in. This is good, southern cooking. 1) You get a great bang for your buck. 2) Food is consistent. 3) They add certain items and it's always a surprise when it's live and onion day. 4) Friendliest staff you will ever find. Alex, Cheryl, and the new hostess with the mostest just started today and she is a great addition. Genuinely asks how your day was and is engaging. Recently moved to the area, and decided to go to Paredes for Father's Day dinner. First visit there. Quite a crowd when we got there. We waited at the hostess stand for 5 minutes before someone told us to "sit wherever you like". We went and sat in a booth for about 5 minutes before I went to another empty table to retrieve a couple of menus to look at. After another 5-10 minutes, and a walk around to look at the buffet, a waitress passed us by twice while we were sitting with hands folded on an empty table , no acknowledgment. We then decided to leave and go find a restaurant with service. We did receive a "thank you" as we walked out the door. I guess you have to be a known regular to get service there. read more

Really amazing Tex-Mex/American buffet. Try the smokehouse burger (tell them you want pepperjack cheese). Their house barbecue sauce makes this burger worth the trip. Many menu items are on the buffet, so you may want to ask before ordering off the menu. read more

My grandparents live closer to this area and my husband and I love this place. Especially the Chile Rellno (which you generally have to order off the menu, but sometimes they have it on the buffet). I could probably eat an entire quart of their guacamole myself, delicious flautas, menudo (when available) and their Mexican casserole is so freaking good!!!! I generally only come here for Mexican food, so I can't make too much of an opinion about the American food-although they seem to have a good selection. The desserts are good, I particularly enjoy the custard. They also serve your beverage in a huge glass, perfect for not needing refills all the time - especially for my husband who has a small esophagus and must drink a lot. Also, the staff is always friendly and service is always prompt. Definitely worth the price in my opinion - which is a bargain in itself. read more

Salad bar is small and they have a decent selection of classic desserts, including bread pudding and pecan pie. I had the grilled chicken with onions and mushrooms while sitting at the bar. The chicken was slightly dry but very tasty. The grilled mushrooms and onions were well seasoned and grilled so that they were still just slightly crunchy, wonderful texture. The bartender was generous with my vodka and soda. I had green beans as a side, clearly canned.... however they don't tout themselves as 'fine dining' so it is what it is. Overall a good experience for under $15, not including tip. read more

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I placed a phone order for three hamburger baskets, two with fries and one with a side salad instead of fries. I received only two hamburger baskets and a side salad, but was charged for three. The fries were old and so hard that you couldn't eat them. I called and spoke to the owner, Tina and explained to her what had happened. She told me that I wasn't over charged and she didn't know what she was supposed to do about it. When I requested a refund, she hung up on me. I will not be back and I will be sure and tell everyone that I know how you treat your customers. read more
