This has been the place that I have always used to compare hamburgers - they have always been drip down your arm juicy - well, not today. This was the driest hamburger I've ever had - so bad that I could only eat half. Hope this was just a bad day, but there seemed to be absolutely no fat in the burger meat which means no flavor, and absolutely no seasoning. Hurtling across country is hard and we worked up a mighty appetite doing it. We chose to stop into Petty's Steak and Catfish on Main Street in Lindale TX for dinner. What a great choice! The restaurant has friendly smiling servers, a large dining area and looks to have a couple of smaller rooms that would work for parties. DH ordered a burger (his go-to) and I decided on the catfish dinner with a half order of mushrooms to start. Well, as expected, the salad came out quickly but everything else followed so fast I hardly had a chance to dress the salad! The mushrooms were perfect and the ranch accompaniment tasted homemade. The potato was hot, fluffy and the fitting conduit for all the butter I heaped on. The star of the show was the catfish though. Four pieces was certainly too much and I ended up taking the excess home, but it's hard to say a mistake was made because the fish was fresh, steaming hot and sweet. Quite possibly the best I've eaten in the past 10 years. The tartar sauce was a bit heavy and I didn't care for the hush puppies at all, but those demerits aren't enough to affect the star power of the meal. Some friends we hadn't seen in a while invited us to eat catfish at Pettys in Lindale. We had been there a couple of times and definitely was not one of my favs, but we wanted to visit with them so we agreed to meet them. First time my wife and I visited Pettys it was packed and the second time it was fairly crowded as well. This night as we arrived at 5:30 on Friday evening, it was almost empty. While not my favorite in the first place, we ordered an app of onion rings to start with all of us ordering 2 piece orders of catfish. The waitress brought the onion rings after about a 30 minute wait. The order was a huge order but very dark and over fried. After the first few bites by each of the party, it had so much breading, you just couldn't eat them and no one did. The catfish plates immediately followed the onion rings which was disappointing as well. But the onion rings were so awful that it didn't matter. Our plates were delivered and expecting 2 nice pieces of catfish, each of us had 3-4 pieces of small over fried fish. I don't recall such a horrible meal ever. The onion rings were brought to the attention of the waitress and she just said the cook was new and not very good. Most of the waitresses were teenage girls with very little training and basically just shrugged it off. Needless to say, I will never step into this restaurant again and to be quite honest, fail to understand how it can remain operating ! Looking at the very sparse number of diners, it may be an indication on the direction of this restaurant. read more

This is an amazing spot. The home made onion rings are amazing and the lunch specials taste like my grandma's Sunday dinners. Flavors are Fantastic. Went to Pettys Wednesday night. The food was wonderful as usual, but noticed they had a new addition...Ryan! I turned 70 this week and our server Ryan was hands down the best I have ever had in my life. No exaggeration. I even heard people at other tables telling him how good he was...and he's only 19! I tried this place again because it is a favorite of locals.. I came in here for hash browns. I got an over cooked bunch of end trainings. I asked the older ? (My waitress) waitress about the problem. She said it is end of breakfast and that is what You get. I asked another waitress to please replace them. The next batch was dry but not end trailings.. the older waitress said you get them a little brown and that is what you get. Not alot of choices in this 2 horse town. : ( read more

We went with some friends and had a great time. Brisket baked potato was BIG and tasted good. Salad bar was good too. Things that might need a change is : 1. Air Conditioning needs to work 2. I see mixed reviews but we went and tried it and had no problems. We got the daily special and it was hot and plentiful. Great sweet tea too. We'll go back and try something else. 4 of us stopped in for lunch on 2/20/2024. The food was great and so was our server (Kayla B.). She made everyting enjoyable. We started with onion rings and they were the best i have ever had. I had the chicken fried steak lunch and it was great. The other 3 had the senior catfish lunch and my friend said it was the best catfish he had ever had. All 3 had to have to go boxes. I really like Pettys, for a number of reasons. I'm not a fan of greasy food, so I don't order it anywhere. But at Pettys, there's always a way to eat healthily. I like the hometown vibe. I like that it's casual. I like the waitresses. They are attentive. The kitchen gets the food out quickly. And everything I've had there is tasty and worth repeating. The only negative is the outside of the building. Cigarette butts, dirt, and weeds don't give Pettys the look it deserves. read more

Old school diner lunch.... Stopped in at this place because I wanted some home cooking. Took my 21yo nephew because he needed some vegetables to balance out the pizza and burger diet he'd been on. This place has been around a while. Walking in at lunch is like taking a step back in time. Everyone knows everyone and even though I'd lived in the area as a kid, I was an unknown - but that didn't change anything. Staff was really nice and the place was warm and welcoming - could of been the cooking that was welcoming me :) Anyhow, lunch special was a meat and three sides with rolls, slice of cake and ice tea. All for $8.99. Food was as expected. Nothing fancy - just home cooking. I had meatloaf, mashers, beans and squash. There were other meat options but they were all fried (e.g. chicken fried steak) Overall I enjoyed the lunch and it was better than fast food and fairly quick in delivery. Nothing over seasoned or over cooked nor tasted like packaged meal. Parking was a little rough because lot was deteriorated but space wasn't a problem. Don't come here if you want fancy, but if you want food that will warm and fill you up, I recommend stopping by for a try. read more
