My husband and I were chatting about the options and a nearby man chimed in about Vienmex - come to find out it was Jared, the owner! We talked for a while about other stuff, he was very kind and told us all about his wife's restaurant so we decided to give it a try. Happens to be the best of both worlds cause my husband always wants Mexican food and I always want Asian! It was a Monday night so only 2-3 other parties inside. This is a counter service restaurant. The young lady at the counter was very friendly. I tried the lettuce wraps with chicken. They were good and had just the right amount of spiciness. Tried this place because my adult granddaughter recommended it on her experiences with other fusion places. We were delighted! The cozy place with a spacious outdoor area was clean and peaceful. The decor is unusual, like a sort of Christian street art subway/outside place, with a large tree against the back wall and a cloud of cotton pulsing with blue lights. We played tabletop Connect-four while waiting for the delicious food. He had a deep fried burrito which was good but maybe a bit heavy on rice. I had the tacos.. two shrimp and one carne asada. The only problem was a bit too much heat from jalapeños. We had the egg rolls as appetizer, they were crunchy and yummy and served with a cooling dipping sauce. He had unsweet ice tea, nice and fresh and I had a Coke Zero. The Coke Zero came in a can and when I went to buy a second, the owner would have none of it. Gave me a second one. I attempted to put $ in the tip jar for it and he politely refused , 'my place, my rules. It's a blessing to serve you, both.' The menu is quite extensive and we'll go back! Stopped in today to this gem of a restaurant in Lindale, just north of the main corner in town. I love Vietnamese food and Mexican food, but I admit to being a bit skeptical of this fusion concept. Well, it works magnificently! We were both really hungry, but avoiding carbs, so we ordered the Teryaki Chicken Lettuce Wraps. My first thought when I saw the plate was that there was no way I could eat that much food! 6 large lettuce leaves stuffed with a great blend of chicken, spices, veggies, and a very tasty sauce come with each order. The dish is reminiscent of a Banh Mi sandwich, but the spice profile is more Mexican. Either way, all six wraps disappeared, and the hunger crisis was over. Ten out of Ten! My husband and I stopped here for lunch on the way to Jefferson, TX. These tacos were amazing! The Bang Bang chicken taco was my favorite. The fried chicken in this taco is double battered and just over the top delicious! My husband and loved the Viet-taco with steak. It had honey-glazed pineapple, red bell peppers and candied jalapeño. They top it with red onions, cotija cheese and Vienmex sauce. Sooooo good and just a perfect medley of flavor choices! The decor inside was truly creative and fun. Service from the owner as superb. What a great place to have some fun twists in Vietnamese and Mexican food. Though the menu could be a little more Vietnamese heavy (no bias here or anything) The menu is fun and they have lots of choices. Finally had the opportunity to try Vienmex, yesterday. My son has been telling us how good it is! He was 100% correct! We tried the BBQ tray which had wings, chimichanga, sliders and loaded fries. Recently went to eat here with my husband and we loved it. The owner is a nice guy that runs the place. This is a family run business. He explained the food well, showed us how to play some games on the table, took our order, delivered our food to the table and checked on us after a while. Gave us free refills of tea before we left. The food was top notch. I loved the hibarito (hibachi shrimp rice in a fried burrito) it had a house Asian sauce on it. It was so tasty. I also tried the shrimp tempura taco and a bang bang shrimp taco. All very good and fresh. My husband had Birria tacos, wings, fries and a deep fried wrap with pulled pork in it. All of this was on a mini monster platter that we shared. We loved the food, service and decor. The decor inside is kinda cool. There is a cloud with lights behind it and a beautiful tree. We went back the very next day because the food was that good. Our second visit was just as good as the first. All the food was so fresh and very tasty. The presentation of the food was nice too. This was my second visit here. The first time trying the food I was blown away by the flavors of the Viet Tacos, Korean BBQ. The issue was the tortillas were so tough that I could not eat them. When I brought it up to the gentleman he made excuses that they were that way from being on the grill. No, there is a difference between crispy from a grill and being tough from a microwave. Yesterday, I decided to give it another try after months of not wanting to go back and to my delight the tortillas were good however the meat had ZERO Korean bbq flavor. It tasted like standard grilled carne asada that you can get at any taco shop. The fusion could be amazing as I love Vietnamese and Korean food. My husband and I first went to this restaurant when I was pregnant with our first child! I'm writing this review because I believe it is important to speak the truth and share opinions that are helpful for both parties. The first part of my review: We got the BBQ Plate, ate inside, and thought it was well done. Our second visit, we had our daughter with us and ordered the BBQ Plate again.We ate outside, and I noticed the chicken wings were cold, not crispy, with no sauce, and no flavor.This Sunday, November 10th, we came back with my family. We ate inside and ordered the BBQ Plate for all of us. I took a bite of the fried rice burrito, and the rice was crunchy. Then I took a bite of the chicken wing, and it was undercooked on the inside. I was disappointed because we really enjoy this restaurant. My humble suggestion is to put something else besides the chicken wings on your BBQ Plate to showcase your menu better. As for the burrito, taste what you are cooking and make sure the rice isn't hard! Overall, for the BBQ Plate, the flavoring could use a little more pizzazz and versatility. The second part of my review: Upon walking into the restaurant, I was ready to get out of the cold and enjoy some inside with warmth.There was no warmth; it was very cold! My husband got an extra layer for me from the car. He was also wearing a sweater and a long-sleeved shirt, but he was still cold. After noticing the coldness, we ordered our food, but there was no welcomeness from the hostesses/cashiers. My opinion for this portion: when you go to sit down at a restaurant, have the air turned slightly up for your guests when it is 60 degrees outside. Emphasize to your hostesses/cashiers the importance of welcoming guests. What could help with the welcoming part is having them suggest that the guests grab a table and their food will be out soon. Let them know the water is in pitchers in the fridge. These little things go a long way in the food industry; I was a hostess myself and know it's not too hard to incorporate that wording. Oh, my goodness. I wish I could give more than 5 stars! This place is delicious and was a wonderful experience. I was a little nervous when the tacos came out in flour tortillas. (I'm a corn tortilla kinda' girl.) But they were spot on. They wouldn't have been as good in corn. The bang bang chicken tacos were so good. So were the pickle fries and the stuffed jalapeños. As wonderful as all this food is, their dolce cake was the stuff dreams are made of. Ellie, the manager, is absolutely delightful. I was scrolling through Facebook earlier today and came across an absolutely glorious picture of some food. It looked so good, I instantly sent a text to my wife saying to hurry and get off of work because lunch was just decided by the Facebook gods themselves. I had the car running when she pulled up and we made the short drive to Vienmex - Asian Fusion Street Food located in Lindale. I walked in with my wife and we were instantly greeted by a young lady who was full of energy. She went over quite a few things on the menu with us. The owner walked out and also explained some of their menu items. They really made the ordering process as simple as possible. We ordered the mini monster tray, 2 different kinds of egg rolls, and a side of their street corn. Keep in mind, this place combines Vietnamese and Mexican in the best way possible, so please save the comments about it not looking "tRaDiTiOnaL". The mini monster tray comes with 2 vibirria tacos, 1 viet-taco, 1 shrimp tempura taco, 1 hibarito, a side of fries, and 2 wings with the sauce of your choice. The vbirria comes on a corn tortilla with mozzarella, beef shoulder, and sautéed onions. The consomé had a slightly sweet flavor, but it was incredible. The corn tortilla was nice and crispy and yet still soft (perfectly cooked). The meat was very tender and mixed so well with the cheese and onions. The vietaco had red pepper, guacamole, pineapple, sweet onions, honey glazed jalapeños, cojita cheese, and cilantro. We got the carne asada as our protein. I'll be honest, this one was definitely outside of my comfort zone, but my wife insisted that I ordered it how it came. I'm so glad I listened to her. It was incredible. All the flavors combined were just meant to be. The shrimp tempura taco was out of this world. It had Japanese sushi rice, cucumber, cream cheese, eel sauce, their vienmex house sauce, and sesame seeds. It was basically a sushi roll in the form of a taco and my wife and I loved it The hibarito was an entire hibachi meal wrapped up in a tortilla. It came with hibachi fried rice, egg, eel sauce, teriyaki sauce, pickled carrots, cilantro, and sweet tai chile sauce. We got ours with steak. This was probably my favorite. The fried rice was so good and I'm really picky about my fried rice. The elote was different, but really good!!! It came with their sriracha based house sauce, honey, red peppers, and cotija cheese. We also ordered a southwest eggroll and a pork eggroll. Both of them were cooked to perfection. They came with a dipping sauce as well. The wings!!!! They had the best batter possible. I would take these over any wings that I've had in Tyler. Not only were they massive, they were full of flavor and very juicy. Food wise, this place gets a 10 out of 10 from me. In regards to the customer service, another 10 out of 10. I had the pleasure of speaking with the owners (Jarred and Ivy). I could tell how much passion they had for cooking within a few seconds of talking with them. It was really cool getting to hear their plans for this place. They also have a large outdoor stage and a really nice area that is gated off for fun activities such as cornhole, giant jenga, and even a large bounce house for when the weather cools off a bit. They also do live music!!! This place has everything. I almost forgot, they have so many unique drink options to choose from (milk tea, brown Thai tea, macha Thai tea, viet jelly coffee, and Vietnamese coffee)!!! They even had different ice cream choices and they'll be doing milkshakes soon. We ordered the taro milk tea with the strawberry boba and I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it. It was my first time trying taro milk tea. I CAN NOT say anything else but wow. This place ONLY hits home runs. My wife and I have been here twice and each time we have been blown away. Both times we have ordered one of their "tray" options. Both have come loaded with flavors that my palette had not previously experienced. The first time in we were greeted by the owner who was working the register. He was a ton of help in making decisions. The BBB and BBQ tray are both great go-to's. When we asked what dessert option we "had to have" he suggested the churro cake, and boy was that a blessing. The first time my wife and I made the mistake of just ordering one. On the second visit, we both had to have one. The meal options come with a side and drink (not fountain). With this deal the steep price of about $16-17 is alright. We got the shrimp banh mi (street corn and a Dr P) and the carne asada Hibarito (egg rolls and a Coca Cola) The Hibarito is well worth it, good size burrito and the fried rice is really nice actually. The egg rolls are very good (HOT). The banh mi was proportionally good, the French bread wasn't toasted though. The street corn seemed to be missing something, I think mayonnaise as it was more liquidy than creamy. The staff is really nice, and there was a musician here playing solo and doing excellently. I ordered pho with short ribs. What I got was the smallest noodles possible. Overcooked and/or mushy. Use bigger noodles and don't cook the heck out of them !!!!. And several pieces of roast for 18.38. Don't ribs have bone??? "Ribs" they call them. I was here several years ago and I remember being unhappy then!!! Why did I try it again!!!???? Because of the reviews. Must be from people who don't know what good pho is!!!! Any Vietnam cook who knows what good noodles would be afraid to show their face after serving this stuff. I sent my soup back because there was a strange refrigerator flavor to the meat. The waitress told me this stuff was 3.00 more than menus on wall states on the wall. WHAAAAT? That is illegal AND it wasn't worth 6.00 in my opinion. I'd give it negative stars. I will remember NEVER to go here again!!! The tacos must be good for them to get anything over 3 star rating.
