So I was referred to this salon for makeup . Jyck pronounced "Jake" came highly recommended. When I scheduled the "Glam" appointment for the Zulu Ball, the representative quoted me the price and scheduled. I was very excited to check out a new place. When I arrived the salon was clean and everyone was nice. I was introduced to Jyck and asked to have a seat to wait. He was nice and very welcoming. I brought my own makeup powder, foundation, and eyeshadow. Thank God. They only offer Aveda products and that wasn't going to work for me as I'm a woman of color. He did a good job! I was pleased that he was able to pull off the look I desired. When it was time to pay, Jyck whispered something to the clerk and she increased the price by $10. No biggie but I was bothered because the quote was different from the price I had to pay AND we used some of my products. I didn't even feel compelled to ask why, I just payed and called it day. read more

This place is a hot mess. I made my appointment for an American Wave weeks in advance, planning an entire day of my vacation to get this, and it's not being done. Why? Because whomever made the appointment didn't tell me about a consult (which would be impossible since I live across the US), nor did they allow enough time to actually DO it. The stylist told me she didn't even have enough product in stock to do it, but she made the excuse that my hair was too damaged on the ends. I can't help but wonder if this was accurate as she couldn't do it anyhow. What a complete waste of my time. UPDATE: No one has reached out and you now only have today to make this right. This is where you want to go if you want color done right! Heidi is the experienced colorist who I use, and she was recommended by a friend. She always takes her time and does a fantastic job. The location is very clean and feels high end. They offer water, coffee/tea, and changing rooms with robes. They sell a line of Aveda hair, skin, and face products in the entry room. The shampoo always smells delightful, though the prices for product are a bit high. The company does imply that the products they use and sell help protect your hair from damage and contain non-harmful ingredients. More about Heidi/my visits: Heidi Cramer is experienced and very knowledgeable, as well as being friendly and empathetic. She made me feel very comfortable, even at my very first visit, and I would recommend her to anyone who is anxious about going to a salon like this. Heidi C. does a consultation at the beginning of every visit. In the beginning, I would always bring photos, and she would explain what would and wouldn't work for my hair. Now I bring just one or two photos to show the color I want, but then I let Heidi suggest ideas so that the color & highlights best work with my face shape, hairstyle, and maintenance schedule. This salon IS expensive, so I wouldn't recommend getting your hair cut at this location, as I was quoted prices from $50-85 for just a trim. If you want a very drastic cut, they may have the talent to do it, but I haven't tried it. The prices depend on the experience level of the person cutting the hair. Also, the colorists don't cut hair, so you do need to schedule with different people. I do know someone who did have a cut they were not happy with. For this reason, as well as the cost, I get my hair cut elsewhere. For color, Paris Parker Aveda does have a price list online, so you can determine about how much your color might be. Prices will vary depending on if you want all over color, how much it needs to be lightened, and the number of highlights/lowlights you want. The cost has varied from $90 to over $200, depending on what I had done. The color lasts me several months, though. As with most salons, it's cheaper to keep color close to your natural color. The more you do, the higher your cost will be. I can't speak for the others, but having great color is worth it to me, and I love Heidi's work! read more

I have mixed feelings about this salon. I am a current customer and unless something better comes along, I will likely stay a client. I have, however, altered how I shop with Aveda and have started going to another spa. They do a good job of keeping track of customer files to include purchases, hair color formula etc. Most of the stylists seem knowledgeable and are polite. Now, the downfalls. I have gotten a few spa services here. my first complaint is the area is very dated; the spa and locker rooms are out of the 80's. The last time I went to the spa there I found dead large cockroach in the women's spa locker room. I told the manager and she very nonchalantly said "we just sprayed so I guess it worked." When someone just spent $110 for a massage, that is not the right answer. Speaking of price, if you look online it appears the massages are $75 which is competitive for the area. They do not tell you certain therapists are more, and you find out after the fact. So, I spent $130 for a 1-hour massage in a dated spa, with a cockroach watching me change. That is not my idea of a good spa day. The store part of the salon has a good stock and they usually honor the online Aveda deals which I give them kudos for. However, on more than one occasion they have overcharged me, not applied a sale, or charged me for items I didn't get. They give you a receipt that has a total with no breakdown on it, so I had to start asking for an itemized one which is how I caught the mistakes. They did refund my money, but this should not happen multiple times. Not to mention the times I and others did not catch it because the receipts are not itemized unless you ask for it. My solution is I started shopping Aveda online for the most part. They often have great deals and free shipping and, this way, I know I am getting what I paid for. My final remark is about booking appointments, they need to get rid of the call center. When you call to make an appointment, you don't actually get the salon you are booking into. Their system is a mess because you don't talk to the salon at all; it is an outsourced call center and they often mess up appointment times, stylist, etc. I had to drive there from about a half hour away to fix bookings for other people just before my wedding and deal with the assistant manager to get everything situated. They did a great job but what a headache to deal with. When I started going to Paris Parker, I went there for all sorts of things like shopping, spa and hair, but now I just do my hair there. Overall, it is a decent salon, but they need to address some of the issues I mentioned. They are good but they could be great if they fixed a few things. I gave them a 4 start because you cannot do a half star, they really are a 3.5 right now. read more

A bit difficult for me rank properly as I had a color, cut and pedi. For the cut and color I would easily gave 5 stars, the pedi more like 3. OK here's the break down. Walking in is a joyous experience. Very welcoming, the scents are like no other salon you will walk into and it's just an all around good uplifting experience. They have specialist in each area so one person for color another for cut and so on. I love this idea as not all stylist are good at all aspects of hair. Alissa did my color and she nailed it. I was new to this salon so it's always difficult to start off with a new stylist. Girl knew her stuff! Up next was Trisha for the cut. LOVE HER! She makes you feel as if you are a long lost friend and she's so easy to chat with. She explains what she's doing, why she's doing it and actually listens to your likes and dislikes on your hair style. I will for sure be visiting these two women again. Up next is the Pedi. While the Pedi wasn't bad the choices were extremely limited. I tend to enjoy a bigger selection. You know, citrus scrubs, fancy designs on my toes, things like that. Here it was 2 choices which sort of let me down. No fancy designs for my toes and limited selection of colors. Also the location for the Pedi is kinda in a back, almost closet feel, type area. Not a relaxing area in the least. Ethel was very nice and sweet but sorry Ethel I won't be back to visit you. Prices on all were in a average to high end range but that's fine by me. You have the choice of what level experience stylist you want and that will set the price range. I think my cut was was around $70 and my color around $60 or so. I booked a haircut with Lauren Canal because she had a great review on Yelp, and she did not disappoint! She did an excellent job on my cut (even despite my super vague description of what I wanted done), was fun to talk with, and gave the most amazing pre-cut stress-relieving massage. Tasha Sibley is a game changer!!! After a small Soft tissue injury, I woke up the next morning with some major stiffness and muscle tenderness. A quick text later, she went above and beyond to get me into the spa and to work 60 minutes of Magic. I left feeling relieved and hopeful that the pain would disappear. She truly paid attention to what she felt, saw and heard as she worked into the tissues of the shoulders and the neck. And, when I left she gave me a plan -- what to watch for and what to do next. Started out with one stylist that did an awesome job with my hair color. Made an appointment to see her again in 8 weeks but had the ole switcheroo pulled on me when I showed up for my appointment. They had "mistakenly" scheduled me with another stylist. When asked if my stylist was still employed there, I was told yes and that it was just a scheduling mistake and then she walked by and waved at me! Okay...I was standing right in front of the receptionist when she scheduled my next appointment and handed me the reminder card with the first stylist's name on it. I needed the touch up so I stayed. This stylist was rough and rushed. The color was okay but not as great as the first. I decided I'd rather go to a stylist that actually wants my business and doesn't pawn me off on someone else. Don't let Erica Lee touch your hair. She managed to mess up 3 times. I had 2 reservices to fix the orange highlights after speaking to the manager, which I appreciated. My hair appeared to be fine. Two days ago I went in for the growth and Erica managed to miss a cluster of grey hair on top of my head. At home I noticed the color she used for the growth didn't match the rest. She doesn't give you a mirror so you can't check at the salon. Today after shampooing my hair, the orange highlights reappeared! Needless to say I am beyond disappointed and fed up with Erica Lee's so called skills. This is ridiculous and a huge waste of money. I visited Paris Parker Salon for the first time today. They were able to fit me in the same day with Shanna for a hair cut. I needed my over grown pixie cut brought under control. Not only did she do an amazing job all around, but she was able to copy the picture I showed her exactly! She obviously has an effortless talent with hair - I have very difficult hair to work with as it's fine and thin and curly. She gave me the best haircut of my life. Once I had the best haircut of my life (from Jalicier, who is not there anymore) Twice I had pretty good haircuts and excellent consultations (from Erica Eisenhardt) And once I had a downright bad haircut (from Erica Lee) My mom went to Erica Lee for about two years. The first time was a drastic change, cutting off quite a bit. She nailed it! The cut was amazing! She even gave tips for coloring at home. But it was a steady decline from there ending in a bowl cut. Of course they are good at greeting you,they have no clientel. A friend I used to work with told me what they paid. And of course she didn't take the job. The salon on Rail Road in Hammond is a beautiful salon,never would you think "chain salon" if you went there. As with many chain salons the turnover is high in spite of them making you sign something saying you can't work near the salon after leaving. I know the only people working here are fresh out of school and the salon is supposed to be teaching them. Sadly they only use Aveda(not good just smells good) and that won't help them in the real world. The one cut I had was bad. For over a year I went for color since I know my formula that can't be messed up. Went to the same girl who I felt sorry for as she was wasting her time here. We talked about highlights and a year later I let her do them thinking she had to know about bleach. After all she has been doing color exclusively for over a year and we had talked about it. WRONG. She used bleach,put me under a heat lamp and left the room. This is a no no on so many levels. Needless to say my hair was fried and is still breaking off. STAY OUT OF CHAIN SALONS.
