They have a variety of dipping sauces and we chose the maple and rosemary mayo (delish) and ketchup. The burger was AMAZING! Absolutely dribbling with juice when we cut into it. There was a smear of maple jam under the patty that gave it a hint of sweetness that paired well with the salty cheese. The bun soaked up the juices nicely and wasn't too heavy. I would definitely come back for the burger!

I booked a single seat at a restaurant with 1 communal table in a French-speaking country. Let's just say it was a little awkward for me, as well as the other 9 French speakers at the table who kept glancing over at me and occasionally translating the story currently being told at the table. Not their fault...not the restaurant's fault...my fault alone. If you are traveling alone and don't speak French, keep it in mind when deciding to book here. That being said, the food was really delicious - mostly Mexican flavors, but with French influences. Started off with a nicely complex posole with pork jowl. Nice heat without being painful; pork was super-tender. Second course was a red snapper ceviche, served over a silky coconut & lime cream with green olives and green beans. A really interesting dish with elements you wouldn't think to put together but that worked really well. Third was zucchini fritters served with a green chile & pistachio mole. Fritters were light, mole was deep and tangy. Fourth was a perfectly cooked duck breast (crispy skin and all) served over a tomato, garlic, and pumpkin seed sauce. Best duck I've had in a good long while, and the sauce was absolutely delicious. He finished the meal with a quince and caramel tart served with dulce de leche sauce, which was a little sweet but really decadent. The chef introduced each dish (even giving me an abbreviated English version). Free shots were poured for the group twice in between courses. Service was attentive and accommodating. The whole experience took 3.5 hours which was a little long for 5 courses, but everybody at the table (who spoke French) was having a great time meeting the others and telling stories. Had I spoken French, I may have stayed longer to hang out, but the awkwardness hit the wall at the 210-minute mark and I asked for the check. If you speak French or have an English-speaking buddy to bring, I highly recommend the experience.

You may wish to make a reservation because this tiny cafe has but a few tables and it gets pretty busy. Take out would also be a suggestion. This gem of an eatery offers traditional Colombian savory fare such as arepas (ground white corn flour "bread/tortilla" that is stuffed with various ingredients), patacones (plantains stuffed with various ingredients) as well as tropical juices/smoothies, Columbian coffee drinks and some of the most to die-for pastries. One of my Columbian friends suggested we eat here and I'm so glad she did. I ordered the Arepa con carne, which was a generous portion of shredded beef, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and cheese. It was huge-I had to use both hands to hold it (not a complaint-just glad I didn't get more than one!!). They serve the arepas with bottles for the table of a freshly made avocado cream sauce and a slightly spicy vinegar sauce that reminds me of Cholula brand Mexican table sauce. You add the sauces to your arepa, take a bite, add more sauce. The beef filling was very tender and delicious and the sauces added a really nice flavor to the dish. The arepa itself was freshly made and cooked-it was still nice and hot when it came to the table. I ordered the Guanabana Smoothie with no added sugar and water versus milk, as my friend suggested. Guanabana is also known as Soursop and many people think it's a great cancer fighter. It tastes like a combo of banana and coconut-in other words, it was very good and smooth. For dessert, she recommended we get the Pastel Gloria instead of Churros, since I've had my lifetime share of Churros before. Her suggestion was another hit. These delicate puff pastries are filled with a homemade dulce de leche and a guava paste. The combination was out of this world and it was the creamiest, most delicately flavored dulce de leche I have ever tasted. These too were popped fresh out of the oven when served. My friend told me that she comes here often when she is feeling homesick. She said the owner opened it initially as a Columbian bakery, but people were inquiring about more savory fare, so he decided to do that as well. I can see why she loves it so much-the food is reasonably priced, authentic and is clearly made with fresh ingredients and to order. I would definitely come here often if I lived still in QC. It's worth the trip into Limoilou/Beauport.
