I've been a patient of Pariser Dermatology since I moved back to the area in 2014. I've seen multiple providers but most often see Dr. Torosky or PA Lindsey Seddon. I am a frequent flyer, having been first diagnosed with melanoma in 2009 with multiple recurrences since, so I'm here at least every 3 months. This Chesapeake location is clean and easily accessible, though, like most specialty practices you may have a long wait to get an appointment. I highly recommend aiming for a first morning or first afternoon appt if you don't want to deal with providers running behind. The providers have always spent ample time with me to listen to my needs and complete necessary skin checks. I recently needed to change medications and Lindsey researched my options thoroughly, listened to my concerns and we made a plan of care together. They also employ 2 aestheticians for those interested in neuromodulators or custom laser face and body treatments. I am grateful to Pariser for their care! read more

I had an appointment scheduled to remove a cyst. I received a reminder email/text stating I should arrive 15 minutes early which I did. When i checked in, I was told to have a seat. After waiting 45 minutes after my appointment time, I checked with the front desk and was told they were finishing up with an earlier appointment & would be out to get me. 15 minutes later I was called back. As I sat down in the chair I was told that there was 1 more patient ahead of me & it would be another 20 - 30 minutes before they started the procedure because they were short a technician. So my 2 pm appointment for which I arrived at 1:45 and was called back at 3 pm wouldn't start until at least 3:20 pm. I left. It is ironic that while I waited a patient came in 11 minutes after her appointment time & was told she might not be seen because a she exceeded the 10 minute limit for late arrivals. The doctor did agree to see the patient but it floors me that this practice has ZERO respect for their patient's time. What could they have done differently? Well when they realized they were short a tech they could have called patients and given them an opportunity to reschedule or at least be aware that the appointment time would be late or when I checked in I could have been told there was a delay and given the opportunity to reschedule. I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Pariser Dermatology was extremely disappointing. My 12-year-old daughter developed a rapidly spreading skin condition over the course of a week. What began on her legs had spread to her arms and face, and we still did not know whether it was fungal, viral, contagious, or something more serious. After spending four hours in the ER with little help beyond an over-the-counter cream recommendation and instructions to see a dermatologist, we began calling every dermatology office we could find. Because of the urgency of the situation, I brought my daughter to Pariser Dermatology in person hoping someone could at least assess whether she needed immediate attention. The receptionist was not particularly sympathetic, and we were told the earliest available appointment was June 30. What was most frustrating was that no provider was willing to briefly look at my daughter, despite her being physically present in the waiting room with visible lesions that were actively spreading. I was not asking for a full appointment or diagnosis on the spot just a quick assessment of whether the situation warranted more urgent care. Fortunately, I then went to Forefront Dermatology in Chesapeake. Despite being fully booked and double-booked that today, they found a way to fit my daughter into their schedule that afternoon. Their willingness to help in what felt like an urgent situation stood in stark contrast to the experience we had elsewhere. I understand that medical offices have scheduling limitations and policies. However, when a child presents with a rapidly worsening and unexplained skin condition, I would hope for a greater degree of compassion, flexibility, and clinical judgment. I paid out-of-pocket because someone recommended this dermatologist. I asked how much the service would be and I paid as soon as the service was completed. I later received a bill for $280. The receptionist that picked up wasn't friendly and was borhered that she was being asked questions about the bill. It feels like a shakedown. If you tell me one price and then change it that's just bad business. Her explanation was no the $150 you paid just for you in the door then we bill you more. And you signed papers. Huh? So basically if I ask them the price don't believe them because they will change it. What else will I get a bill for. read more

Had to reschedule my original appointment and was told by the front desk phone person that they would look up my VA Referral and it was all be taken care of by my next appointment time (3 weeks). Nothing was taken care of. They didn't look up my referral and I showed up the day of my appointment (drove 30mins) and my time etc was completely wasted and the people at the front desk couldn't care less. When I asked why no one called they just said "I don't know" Do not recommend this place. They don't care about you. read more

I went to this clinic to get a spider vein on my face removed. The first treatment, performed by Dr Ellis, which took less than 20 seconds for the doctor to administer, and for which I paid $150, did not work. The spot returned with a few days. I went back to have it redone. Again the doctor's treatment did not work, the spot returned. I was charged another $150. So $300 for absolutely no improvement. I have had these spots removed several other times--by different doctors--to good effect and with only one treatment. I called the clinic to complain and was told to speak to the clinic manager. I did speak with her and she basically told me they did not care that I'd paid $300 for ineffective treatment, the clinic would neither refund at least half what I paid, if not all, nor would they offer another treatment, this time with a different doctor, and free of charge. read more

I debated whether to write this review but ultimately decided it was important to share my experience honestly for the sake of both patients and staff. My first visit with Dr Ellis Earlier this was extremely disappointing! The appointment itself lasted only a very brief amount of time, and I felt that my concerns were not addressed. I was left with the impression that my reason for coming was being dismissed. The bedside manner was EXTREMETLY poor, and the interaction felt rushed and uninterested. Communication was minimal and came across extremely sarcastic at times, which made the experience uncomfortable and discouraging as a patient seeking medical care. I understand that healthcare providers often have busy schedules, but patients deserve to feel heard and taken serious during their appointments. Even if that specific doctor at that time cannot completely treat the problem and need to be referred else where. My appointment was scheduled at 9:45 and my appointment was completely done by 9:50! I felt the focus was more on quickly moving to the next patient rather than addressing the issue I came in for. Additionally, I was extremely uncomfortable witnessing the way a staff member was being spoken/treated during the visit. The interaction felt dismissive and disrespectful. I felt compelled to apologized to the staff member afterward for how she was being treated. She responded extremely politely. Which was shocking regarding the situation. However, it was clear the situation was not okay. I can only imagine how she speaks to her staff not in front patients. I feel so bad. Overall, my overall experience was very disappointing. Patients come to medical professionals for help, understandings, and respectful care. Unfortunately, that was not the experience I had during this visit. This is a two part review. One for the Dermatologist and the other for aesthetician. The Dermatologist I saw had the best bed side manner! He listened to my concerns and addressed my questions. I left feeling confident in my care and diagnosis. I also saw Erin the aesthetician. She was AWESOME! She is professional, friendly and funny! She specializes in what she does and has a lot of experience! I had IPL service performed by her and I am so glad I did, she knew exactly what she was doing and is very safe in doing so. If you need any facial services, she is the one you can trust with your face due to her experience. I also love the sample she gave me to try on my face! I love places that have the most updated medical grade products available! The entire office was spacious and clean, including waiting rooms and the bathroom. It was quite impressive compared to the other dermatologist office I was seen at from a different provider. Reception staff is very friendly and kind, I like that they wear professional uniforms. My wife and I are both patients of this practice. My first visit was several years ago and my wife was referred earlier this year. All the employees and doctors I've dealt with have been first rate. They are friendly, professional and competent. Things ran pretty smoothly at the old Volvo location but since they moved into this new facility on Independence Blvd. things have changed a bit. I have no complaints with the quality of care but the reason I don't give Pariser a higher rating is communication. It is impossible to speak to somebody on the phone when you call. The best you can do is leave a message and wait for a return call. Sometimes the call is returned the same day but other times it can take a couple days. Unfortunately I cannot have my phone when I'm working so waiting for a call back is problematic. This is very frustrating to me. On a couple occasions I've had to drive to the their office just to be able to ask a question or change an appointment. They do a little better with messages left through the patient portal but It still takes a while to get a response. I realize they, like many other businesses these days, are understaffed which makes efficient operations more challenging. I understand and I'm not at all upset but just can't help but feel a little frustrated when I can't get a hold of someone on the phone. On balance, my wife and I are pleased with the quality of care and will certainly continue our relationship with Pariser. 3.5 stars rounding down. read more

I love the Chesapeake office, everyone is happy and welcoming. Doctors very educated.

Tops for sure so far for me. Now, I've only visited once but it was a stellar first impression. First, I woke up yesterday with a large painful lump in the upper middle of my back that I thought was probably an abscess. I debated until about 10am what I should do but decided since it was Thursday and I didn't want to wait it out through the weekend and let it get worse - I hopped online and googled local dermatology offices I could call. Pariser was the highest rated with the most reviews on google so I called the number on their main site. I spoke to a friendly receptionist and explained that I wanted to be seen ASAP due to the painful lump on my back and a prior history of skin issues. She took some basic information and asked if I could be at the Chesapeake office at 1:15 (it was probably around 10:30 by this point). I said yes and easily googled the directions from the website. This location is easy to find just off Volvo Parkway and has plenty of parking. It's on the first floor (just through the glass double doors on the right of the entrance) and has a welcoming and open lobby area. I arrived at approximately 1:10 for my 1:15 appointment. I was greeted promptly by a receptionist who made a copy of my insurance and had me sign one form. She asked me to sit and wait and I would be called back shortly. There were probably about 5 older patients waiting. This is the part I was worried about because reviews online stated some people were unhappy as they had waited for like an hour or more and I saw all the people ahead of me. I was surprised to be called back at 1:20 and checked in by a friendly nurse practitioner who asked about why I was there, asked me some health questions and filled out my chart. She asked me to change into a gown for exam and the doctor would be right in. I probably waited about 5-8 minutes before Dr. Bauer entered with a medical transcriber. He was friendly and apologized for the wait (what wait?!). He asked me questions, listened and then explained a bunch of things to me. He was educating me about the questions I asked. Nice. We looked at some bug bites of concern on my legs and then we got to the lump on my back. Turns out it's a ruptured cyst and he recommended a small injection of steroid and come back in a month if it's no better. He also gave me samples of a light steroid cream to rub on my bug bites to help them resolve. He also went ahead and did a review of my body to make sure I didn't have any skin cancer or concerning moles. Dr. Bauer did tell me I had three options for my cyst: do nothing hope it resolves (which it probably wouldn't), cut it and drain it (maybe a scar), inject it, or biopsy it which he didn't think it needed. I went with his recommendation for an injection that would probably hurt he warned for a little while but would be better by that night. So he called for the stuff in the hall and then injected my cyst quickly and I was dressed and provided the samples and ready to go. I checked out at the front and was on my way out the door by 1:52! Not bad for a same day appointment. Friendly staff all around, a great doctor, and a very nice office. They even gave me a little welcome bag with some info on their procedures and samples of face masks and stuff. As Dr. B advised, it hurt like hell for about two hours but was smaller and felt better by last night. Today it's even better so I'm hoping it's a done deal. I'm SO glad I went ahead and was seen yesterday and didn't put it off over the weekend. Highly recommend this practice. They have a few locations in the area and I was on the hunt for a new Dermatologist after my mole removal maiming fiasco in 2015. I felt welcomed and the service was excellent from start to finish all the way around. I hope this can be my new spot! read more

Pretty disappointed. I was given bad information prior to my appointment. When I arrived they asked for my credit card even though I did not receive services and was told it was a free consultation. I told them I will pay for services once received. I want to get either a chemical or peel or IPL services, but want to talk to someone before I commit to something that my skin may not be able to tolerate. Don't waste your time or money here. My first time ever going to a derm and i was told i have rosacea. My face was not red. I was prescribed rhofade by dr kelly for "redness." I asked him if i could have a bad reaction. He lied and told me no. I used that rhofade for 5 days. Every morning i woke up my face was getting redder and redder. It has now been 6 weeks since I used the rhofade and my face still burns. This stuff attaches to receptors on blood vessels and is supposed to constrict them. It actually caused the opposite reaction. They call it "rebound redness." Well dr kelly told me nothing about this and now I'm suffering. I saw dr Byrd for a follow up and she was rude, cold and uncaring even as i was crying in front of my husband and children. She did nothing for ne but prescribed antibiotics that gave me more bad side effects. I wish i did my research beforehand i would have seen all the bad bad reviews for this rhofade medicine. It's all over the internet. My biggest regret of my whole life was going to Pariser Dermatology. Dr Kelly destroyed my life. I had only had a rosacea flare like 5 times in my life and only very mild flare to very specific trigger like alcohol. Now my face burns like fire for no reason and it does it for days and days with nothing to stop it. Some days I'm better but then there are times like the past 48 hours where the burning just doesn't quit. These people are heartless and not knowledgeable. Do not go here. read more

My husband went for a complete exam with Dr. Pariser. He looked him over and said he was fine. The minute we left the exam room a nurse stopped us and said that he had a tick on his neck. I paid for a $60 visit the last time I went in and the male doctor that saw me didn't even look at my skin. He asked me what concerned me and diagnosed me based off of what I said. I more so told him what I thought I had based on my own research. NOT A PREVIOUS DIAGNOSIS. The meds he sent me home with were not only dangerous to me but didn't work. After arriving early, I was finally ushered into the doctors office by her assistant and was told the doctor would see me shortly. . No one else was waiting in the front room. After waiting for over 40 minutes in the doctors office , I walked out and told the receptionist to refund my co-payment as the doctor had not come in nor sent anyone else in to let me know the doctor had not forgotten me. I use to like going to this place ever since I had a medical reaction to a medicine. Now it is terrible. One of the Dr's I seen had an issue with my neurologist. He told me that he could pick what he wanted to treat. My neurologist only treats headaches and concussions. He is the only one in the area that helped my cluster headaches. He also made a statement because I was taking steroids for asthma and cluster headaches that he would never have let his son take steroids. He obviously doesn't understand crying for 3 hours every attack 4 times a day from cluster headaches. He had an opinion on something he knew nothing about. Now I messaged them and had a medication question since they treat my Steven Johnson's. A pharmacist told me not to take it and my other Dr said it was not going to cause Steven Johnson. I was told they didn't feel comfortable talking to me about the medicine that I needed to contact the Dr that prescribed it. I said y'all treat Steven johnsons I was told to call years ago so it wouldn't happen again. I also told them they treat Steven Johnson I didn't understand what the problem was. I was told well every medicine has a risk of developing it. So I told them that's fine whatever happens happens. It will be their problem at the end of the day. read more

Visit to Pariser Dermatology was fairly good. I did have to wait about an hour before I was seen, and the receptionist collected $100 promptly. I have no complaints about the doctors, the nursing assistants or the staff. I do however must state that the service charges and the payment agreements are excessive. I have never been to a doctor who makes you agree to pay for so many things where you don't know what they may possibly be, and they do all this while you are undressed and waiting or being seen. They also called to advise me to see one of their specialists to make sure a minor issue was not more than that - lord only knows how much I would have been bilked for that. I did not return. After the visit, I was billed incorrectly. My insurance payments and Pariser's billings do not match up. I am still in the process of straightening that out. I would not recommend this office for dermatology unless you have an unlimited stream of funds. They will be happy to take it from you. read more

I am very pleased with this office. I've been going to Pariser for almost 2 years now, but it is my 2nd experience with the Volvo office. The first time the office in Norfolk messed everything up (2 stars). The did not have my injection medication. So, they called the Chesapeake office and the actually had one in stock. I made the extra trip but was very thankful they had it. Today, I met with Dr. Bauer and was very impressed with how quick they were able to get me in and out. I scheduled an appointment for my daughter Over 3 months ago, I received a text reminder of this appointment 2 days ago.. We show up for the appointment today and I am told that the office tried to call me yesterday to inform me that I needed to reschedule because the Dr. had something come up. ( No doubt Golfing with his buddies ) So First of all, I did not receive a call from the Office ( Cell phones tend to save a record of all incoming and out going calls!!). Second, My daughter waited 3 Months to get back into this pathetic office, she absolutely needed her medication refilled, Why In The World Couldn't they Bother to at Even attempt to move her to another doctor? When I realized the counter girl wasn't at all concerned wether my daughter needed to see the doctor or not I asked if we could at least get her prescription refilled, she came back to tell us " No, he'll need to see her first".. The next Available appointment, August.. 2 More Months!? How.. What in the World?? They really just don't give a Damn! I cannot even begin to explain how amazing this clinic is. I was diagnosed three different times in NY for skin infection that were incorrect. I was extremely tired of being diagnosed wrongly and spending large amounts of money for wrongly diagnosed treatments. Dr. William Kelly DeHart was an absolute treasure. He knew exactly what he was talking about and everyone in the office were so nice. Originating from New York, I was completely stunned by how amazingly sweet and professional everyone was. My daughter has severe acne. We have tried every otc remedy. And we moved on to seeing a dermatologist. We started seeing a completely unrelated Dr who we absolutely loved. But we could never get an appt. So we made the decision to change providers. After hearing really great things from quite a few of my daughters friends parents, we decided we'd try this practice out. The first appt was fantastic. No complaints. But that is where the good stuff ends. We have never been able to get back on the medication we started back in August. Its now January. When we went for our second appt, which was past the date we needed to be there, we had to start the process over bc we had some financial issues at home. So we went to see the same provider at the office, Dr. Bauer. I had made a comment about a conversation I had had with his staff and he proceeded to put me in my place, to be nice about it. After he had his say I proceeded to tell him that if he had listened to EVERYTHING I had to say then he would have heard that it was my fault and I was apologizing for my misunderstanding. And that while I appreciate that he defended his staff, he didn't need to rip me a new one in the process especially since I was APOLOGIZING. He then proceeded to tell me and my daughter that we didn't HAVE to see him there were other providers. And I said okay. So when walked out to the window to check out we made an appt with a different provider. Well, turns out THAT new provider was filling in for someone who was on Maternity leave. She was not part of that office. The last appt we had was in December. So I called the office today and asked to speak to a manager. I got the office supervisor. Who at first seemed very nice. Matter of fact but very nice. Well was I wrong. She was just as awful as Dr. Bauer. I thought I was speaking to the Operations Manager up until that point. And then I got sarcastic. It wasn't directly at the person on the phone. I was speaking out loud in disbelief. And so I guess she thought she needed to reprimand me about my "snarkiness". To which I responded that up until that point I had not been snarky, loud, or rude. She was asking for my name, which I answered all 3 times she asked. And that if she wasn't so busy talking over me she would have heard. At the end of our conversation, to which I didn't get rude or loud, she finishes the call and says she wasn't the person to help me after all. That since we seem not to be getting along, she was going to pass all my information and complaints to the Operations Manager Rich. I have never been treated the way the "Professionals" at Pariser Dermatology Specialists have treated me by ANY Drs. Ofc. I would not recommend this office. The specific medication my daughter is trying to get on has a bunch of hoops we have to jump through to even get her on this and we have yet to get a second written RX. I don't expect a call from anyone concerning this matter. The worst service ever. My first appt was May 2018 and I have not been treated at all. I've been given the run around and my test results seems to never make it to the dr. I never receive update phone calls regarding my condition since they haven't done anything but give me antibiotics so I can become eligible for humors through my insurance. The dr didn't do any skin test, he just looked at it and went off of what I said. I was never giving any info on how to manage the condition. I will never recommend this practice anyone. They just want to run a very expensive medication through my insurance without even offering me any alternatives. read more

I went to my first appointment w Dr. Bower today for mole screening and possible removal. I was quite pleased with my visit. I didn't have to wait more than 5 mins to be called back and the office staff was friendly and efficient. Dr. Bower was friendly and very helpful. He told me which moles I should watch what looked totally fine and what could be removed. He also discussed treatment for my mild adult acne and gave me an explanation of which prescriptions would be beneficial and how my insurance handles the approval for those medications. When he was done a woman came into the room to preform the mole removal, she was very friendly, warm, and pretty gentle. I didn't feel anything (even though she warned me there may be a pinch with the numbing shot... nope, no pinch :)). The removal was done incredibly quick and I was sent on my way with instructions to pick up my topical prescription later that day. I'll definitely return for any skin concerns I may have read more

No issues with the reception staff and physician/exam. However, things broke down around the prescriptions. I thought it was odd that the prescriptions were sent directly to two different pharmacies that "have experience with these prescriptions". That should have been a red flag for me. What the physician should have said: these prescriptions usually aren't covered by insurance, but these pharmacies will locate vouchers that you can use to reduce the cost of the prescriptions (the vouchers were still significantly more expensive than my highest copays under insurance). Had I known in the exam room that my son's two acne prescriptions would have totaled over $1K a month, I'd have asked the physician to recommend other options. When we received the prescriptions and I looked at the ingredients, the ingredients and their quantities were common to many OTC prescriptions. Why we had to start with the most expensive prescriptions at his first exam, I don't know. I feel kinda duped. We'll see what these two prescriptions do - if they work miracles and the vouchers hold, we may renew; otherwise, I'll discuss other options with my son's pediatrician. Avoid the female doctor there. She's uncaring and unprofessional. I researched online about dermatologists and was warned about leaving the visit with a big bill. My whole visit with the doctor took about 5 minutes. The doctor saw a spot on my back and immediately wanted to do a surgery on it. I asked if there was a cost to it. She asked what my copay was. I told her and she said probably not. I said I didn't want the surgery. She said I should make an appointment for 6 months from then to take another look at it. I did not want to pay any money other than the cost of the copay for my visit. After that, I told her of a bump on my skin that I was concerned about. She looked at it and immediately grabbed a can of cold spray and sprayed it on the bump. I wasn't told that there would be a charge for that. I didn't think that was a big deal. It literally took about 5 to 10 seconds to spray the area. A week later I receive a bill in the mail. Apparently, I received a surgery while there called Cryosurgery. I never heard of that term before. I also received a bill for that for $250.00. I called them to find out why I received this bill. They talked to the doctor and she said that I consented to it. That isn't true. I never consented to a surgery and didn't know that one took place in the 5 to 10 seconds it took to spray the area. I wasn't told it was a surgery and that I would be billed $250.00 for it. It seemed like she saw an opportunity to make money and did it knowing that I wasn't aware that I would be billed for it. Now, it's her word against mine. She says I consented to the surgery. I know I didn't and didn't even know it was one. I was cautious going into the appointment not wanting to spend any money not necessary. I have two kids and one on the way and don't have money to throw away.
