For several long weekends starting at Black Friday weekend, the Kirkland Arts Center revamps its space to be a holiday art market. It's a fantastic opportunity to buy locally made artisan pieces. From a few dollars for a card, to tens, hundreds, and even thousands of dollars for pottery, jewelry, and exquisite one-of-a-kind art, there is something for everyone. I was here on "Shop Small Saturday". Not surprising, I was pleasantly pleased with the variations of art works offered, from wearables, to functionals, and decorative, I eyed pottery bowls, jewelry, wall art, and these beautiful ceramic bouquets. I did walk away with a pretty piece. Yay, me. Check their hours before going. The shopping season is ending soon; they'll turn back into a pumpkin - i.e. an art center.

Throughout the entire time, she was very patient and was always willing to spark and encourage ideas. What's great about this is their open studio time where you can come in and work on your pieces during the open session where an instructor will be there to help. Apparently there was another student in class who went to the Bothell pottery class and their charged her an arm and a leg just for extra clay and firing... This is definitely a place worth coming!

Jamie offers a variety of classes - I have tried silk painting, glass fusing, acrylic painting, charcoal & soft pastel, and oil painting - and workshops. The studio is also an art gallery where you can view and buy Jamie's and other artist's work, and buy art supplies. Classes are reasonably priced and for most classes all supplies are provided. Woodinville is lucky to have this wonderful creative space.

Mark also helped me choose the correct mat/mount and glass for a handpainted watercolor of my daughter that will be a family heirloom for years to come. Everything turned out beautifully! And Mark by far went the extra mile ... my mom (the painter) had signed the back of the watercolor itself. But once framed, her signature and date were of course covered up. Mark photocopied it and placed it on the back. Now my daughter will always have a piece of art, signed in her Grandma's own hand. What a thoughtful thing. Thank you, Mark. Jonathan who's got probably 20+ years experience did a lot of work and has incredible skill and Svetlana the manager really is wonderful as a skilled art tech, and relationship builder , and really has an artistic flare. In fact probably 150 feet from their shop is her well stocked art gallery which is loaded with every single type of art piece you can even imagine! The prices were very fair and much less expensive than the other places that I called in the surrounding area ( I researched!)there's no way you can do this work on your own for any less than they do it because of the price of plexiglass and even cut glass nowadays! ( and Mattes!!)One of our prints we brought in a frame and a piece of glass and Svetlana actually even cut it for us for free! Wewould go back to this place and intend to any day. The woman was incredibly kind and patient, assisting us with the frame selection process from start to finish. She specifically chose the frame in the photo for us, which added a wonderful rustic charm to the painting. Very high quality wood/framing as well. We called ahead on a Friday to see what the availability is and it's only walk-in so we went after…read morework. The staff was friendly and helped us understand the process of picking out a piece and painting it. There are also instructions on the wall on the steps you need to take to decorate your piece and there are labels everywhere to make sure you know what you're doing. When you first walk in, you pick a piece of pottery out to decorate/paint. There are a ton of items to select from including bowls, mugs figurines, and plates. I picked a little bowl to paint and pulled up my Pinterest board for inspiration. I went to go pick out my colors and they all had swatches on them with 1-3 coats of paint to show you how it looks when fired. They also have precision tip paint bottles (in the same selection as the regular paint) for little details and stamps. They provide you with assortment of paint brushes, decorated pieces for inspiration and different foam applicators for ombre looks. They also give you ceramic palettes and a water mug to clean off your paintbrushes. After you're done with decorating, you clean up your items and put them in the correct compartments for the staff to wash. Then you pay and they tell you when you can pick it up (usually within a week). There was only one staff member when we were there, but she was super helpful and kind. As we left around 6 PM on Friday, it got very busy.
