Park Lane is a little mall smack dab in the middle of downtown Halifax. It's not huge but has some cool stores. They have several shoe stores that sell cool brands like Fluevog, Fly London and Miz Mooz. They also have a Samuel and Co. that carries Canadian designers like Neon Buddha, Joseph Ribkoff and Frank Lyman. It won't take you long to do the whole mall, as it's fairly small. read more

SAFETY ALERT. While attending AIF on 23 September I used the men's washroom on basement level. As I was washing up I noticed in the mirror of someone with a black/white cap, older white man in a stall, holding their camera phone over the divider to the next stall which was occupied. I like knowing that if I have if my adolescent desires comes creeping back into my spirit, creating an unfathomably severe urge to be a mall rat, I can slip into this downtown center to feed my craving. However, I don't really ever buy anything at this mall. Sure, I use the massage chairs outside of Ardene on occasion, and every now and then I attend a screening at the cinema, but this mall ain't so grand. I do love P'lovers and often take little jaunts through the store if I'm in the vicinity. I also quite like the dollar store on the lower level, but lo and behold, I've heard rumors that it's going out of business - somebody set me straight, please?! Besides these shops, I reckon the others are fairly unremarkable. There are some snazzy shoe stores, but they're not really offering up goods that I'm super into. I do like this mall though, maybe simply because it's got a roof and some places to casually peruse. Oh, and bonus, there's a photo booth by the bathroom for a sassy post-pee photo shoot. read more

Located on one of the busiest streets in Halifax, Parklane Mall is a very unique mall. Unlike most malls which are almost exclusively made up of retail shops and clothing boutiques, Parklane is also home to a fitness centre and a movie theatre. Parklane consists of many unique shops including City Streets, Envy, Splurge and Sweet Retreat as well as some more common shops like The Body Shop, Cleve's and Pseudio - all of which are located on the middle level. A fun mall right downtown! Halifax is a small city. In the downtown area, there are only two major streets where the majority of the shopping lies; Barrington Street and Spring Garden Road. So it is important to have a mall on one of them. Both have a type of mall but Park Lane beats the other one with the variety of stores and goods. Park Lane has an Empire Movie Theatre in it with, I believe eight theater's inside of it. There is a small food court, probably one of the smallest in the city which is the reason they are missing one of my stars. But they do have a Nubody's gym, Sports Check, Bookstore, Spa and a bunch of speciality and clothing stores. Security at this mall is pretty good and fast to respond. Yes, I have seen them in action. But don't worry. The mall is just like any other. I've never seen anything past a shoplifter. On the second level of Park Lane is a really nice restaurant called Victors. I definitely recommend going there and trying one of their five dollar Martini's! Probably one of the best parts about this mall is the fact that it sits in the middle of Spring Garden Road. So if the mall doesn't have what you are looking for, just step outside and you will most likely find it. Park Lane isn't the most impressive mall. I would probably refer to it as a mini-mall. But they do have everything I generally want in a mall. I wish more of my favorite stores were there such as RW & CO and I wish they had a larger food court. But I understand they are doing what they can given the space they have. This mall has been around since I can remember and will probably be around for years to come. So if you are downtown and want to catch a movie, go work out, grab a martini, or do a little bit of shopping, Park Lane will take care of you. read more

Park Lane is a strange little mall. But I still like it. The top half has Envy, one of my favourite stores of all time, as well as John David Shoes, Mahone Bay & Geox, The Body Shop, Silken Lingerie and Pseudo, among others. Not every store catches my attention, but it has enough to interest a variety of people. The second floor is where things get weird. The seediest Dollar-type store ever, A Buck & Near takes up most of the retail space, and always creeps me out when I go near it. I've been inside a few times, and it's always a weird experience in which I never find what I'm looking for and I always rush myself out. Park Lane also has the smallest food court of all time, though it still has an A&W because that's just food court law, as well as the theatres. Despite the weakness in the bottom, the top is more than enough to carry the mall for me. I'm a fan. I just don't go down the escalator when I can help it. read more

I don't often shop downtown, but Park Lane is one of my favourite stops when I do. I think the best thing about this mall is that it is never crowded. Because it doesn't have many stores that would appeal to a younger crowd, there aren't hordes of teenagers wandering aimlessly. (They're all outside on the sidewalk. :-D) The Empire Theatres in this mall is my favourite for the same reason. While many of the stores appeal to me (Body Shop, Samuel & Co, John David Shoes, etc), it's unfortunate they don't have a "real" food court. There are perhaps three different places to choose from for lunch, and none of them is particularly tempting for me. On the other hand, you're downtown; it's not like there's a dearth of choices! Another thing that would give this mall five stars: the return of Frog Hollow, or another independent bookstore. A mall without a bookstore is like a cat without a tail. Sure, he can live just fine without it, but ... he would be so much better with it. read more

I feel like Park Lane mall is such wasted potential. It's right in the middle of downtown Halifax, on one of the busiest streets in the city and yet there is such an underwhelming presence of anything to really draw me in. There are some of the essential stores in here such as the Body Shop and The Source, but I feel like other than those, the dollar store, and the movie theatre, there's a lot to be desired in here. A lot of the shops seem to be geared toward 30-55 women, with the focus on clothing stores. There are also (at least) three shoe stores in here but only one shop that I've ever bought an article of clothing from (City Streets). I just feel that this mall is missing that one essential thing that I can't quite put my finger on. There's a small food court downstairs that is centred around A&W but there's also Treats and Just Spring Roll. For the fitness peeps, there's a GoodLife Fitness gym, a Life and Sport store for health food and a spa on the main level to relax on the offdays. Also, the biggest thing I like is the Empire Theatres, tucked away right in the back corner of the bottom level but is probably the reason why most people walk through the main doors of the mall. That's not to say that this mall itself is bad. What I've always liked about Park Lane is that it definitely has a community feel to it. Having worked on Spring Garden road for the better part of a decade, I'm familiar with a lot of the staff at the various shops in this mall and it definitely has a friendly atmosphere. There's also a top level that as of now, hosts a newly relocated Cleves - Source for Sports, as well as a Tailor Shop. There's a lot of empty space here as well that could be put to good use. It's such a shame because Park Lane is well designed, looks really nice during the holidays and could be such a staple to life on Spring Garden Road. But it just isn't. read more

I remember visiting Park Lane as a child, and it was the coolest place ever because it had glass elevators! (oooh!!! ahhhh!!!) Nowaways, I do more than just admire the elevators; it's got a few stores that I always find something special in, even when I'm not looking for something special. Park lane also acts as a great passthrough, so sometimes I'm just a windowshopper by happy circumstance. Park Lane could use some basic improvements, although in the past few months I've noticed some positive changes, so hopefully things are on the up and up! read more

I find myself in Parklane about twice a year. And each time, more recently, I leave wondering why its even there. Situated on the busiest street east of Montreal (there's a factoid for you!), I would think this place would be busier than it is. Unless I always manage to hit it on slower days. Or maybe I find it is missing that pizzazz because it doesn't really have much of anything in it that is of interest to me. If I'm downtown and need something from The Body Shop that is about the only reason I go. Parklane sort of feels like that kid in class who has a ton of potential to do great things but isn't putting the work in required to do those things. As Halifax malls go, this is one of the worst. Very little retail space. What there is, seems frequently vacant. The available spaces are disappearing, slowly being converted to office space. Yeah, there's a movie theatre, a sporting goods store, and a gym but I can't really think of anything else that would draw people in. There's a few restaurants, sure, but hardly a "food court," any more. Most tragically? They got rid of the water feature, a fountain that was a popular feature for quite a long time. Honestly, if it weren't for the movie theatre, I don't think I'd ever set foot in here. read more

Park Lane is a pocket mall in a convenient downtown location. Located on Spring Garden Road, this is a spot that offers something for everyone. Besides a clustering of respectable clothing shops, patrons can also browse home decor, electronics, a lower level food court, as well the adjoining TD Bank and Victor's Pub. But what really makes Park Lane an attraction is the Empire Movie Theatre. Its nice to have a theater downtown, and I'm sure many downtown dwellers would say the same. Its the standard cinema experience, although special screenings spirt up now and again, primarily during the Film Festivals. Lastly, Nubody's exists as an elaborate one of three floor facility. Street walkers can peer inside the windows as they pass, and gym-rats can revel in the extensive opportunity for cardio, weight and additional studios. I've noticed this location to house the young and well-dressed gym sort, so if you prefer a more low-key workout, this may not be the best location. Personally, I prefer the Scotia Square Nubody's. Overall Park Lane is a well-rounded roof of services. Entertainment, fashion, fitness and decor-- it covers enough ground to satisfy the consumer's palate. read more

This seems to be a mall that isn't quite sure where its place in the world is. It wants to be a stylish condo building, a boutique fashion shop, a place to congregate for the fitness conscious of the peninsula, a commercial building, a food court, a movie theatre... I could go on.. I feel that sometimes you have to choose one thing and do it well instead of spreading yourself too thin. Whether that is Park Lane's fate is up for you to decide. read more

I may have waffled a bit between a three-star and a four-star for our dear Park Lane mall but ultimately my past visits throughout the holiday shopping season have definitely pushed this downtown shopping centre up a couple notches in my books. Particularly festive at this time of year, Park Lane may not be the single best shopping destination in the city but they certainly do take good care of the place. I find this year more than ever, the inside has felt modern and exciting again after years of being more than a little on the 'meh' side of things. New storefronts like Geox may have something to do with that, but then spots like Envy are still able to put on a good show for shoppers. More than just looks, though, the return of Liquid means I'm 19204% more likely to walk out of Park Lane with a purchase! Hopefully Park Lane keeps up the good work! I'd love for this mall to become more than just the downtown movie theatre... read more
