Halifax Shopping Centre is not downtown, but it's a short bus/car ride away. It's fairly large and has all the usual chain stores that you'd find in any major Canadian mall. It has some stores that are specific to Atlantic Canada like Samuel & Co., Lawton Drugs, and Pseudio (although Pseudio also has stores in Alberta). Since I'm from Ontario, these stores are cool to me because they are different, and we don't have them at home. Also, there's a Katch in their food court, another thing we don't have in Ontario. It's a good place to walk around, if you're a "mall person" which I am, lol. Lots of free parking. read more

I grew up going to this mall, and a lot has changed over the years. Since its latest Reno, its trying to come off as a "high end" shopping destination, which its not. You can't be a high end mall when once of your largest tenants is Dollarama. The food court is large an open, few empty store fronts and of course the old Eatons/sears wing still sits empty 15 years after it closed. COVID has changed businesses a lot, however its very disappointing to advertise on your own website your open until 9pm, but 98% of your stores and all of the food court closes at 7pm. I spend a lot of time shopping at the Halifax Shopping Center. I really enjoy going for a stroll around the mall with the baby. It's a great way to get some excercise, a great way to look for sales and an excellent opportunity to spend time with the baby. I very much enjoy the Halifax Shopping Center. I find the stores in there are most of my favourite stores and I find it to be in a convenient location. I do however, want to touch on one issue that I have....there is never enough security in the mall. As I mentioned, I always take the baby. Well, if it's raining or snowing, I will park underground and even if it's not, the underground parkade shelters him from the cold and wind. If I end up parking underground, there is only 1 wheelchair ramp that leads into the mall and since I am usuing the stroller, I need to travel on that ramp. 90% of the time that I need to travel that ramp, there are smokers lingering around. I understand that there are always going to be smokers, and that is fine....but it's not fair to breath second hand smoke on this poor, innocent baby. Also, almost everyone who uses that ramp for a smoke, work in the mall. I see name tags on their shirts from stores within the mall. I've spoken to the Halifax Shopping Center information desk, including the manager of the Customer Service Desk and they assured me that Security will spend a lot of time visiting the underground lot to ensure the ramp is completely smoke free. I find this disrespctful and unsafe and I do believe that if there was more security patrolling that area, that it would be reduced. read more

Although this mall does not live up to the selection of much larger north american city malls, for Halifax, it gives you enough of a shopping experience to satisfy a day of carefree indoor shopping. I was really impressed with the renovations that were done to the food court. New dining options and the bathrooms are incredible. 20 urinals, 12 stalls, 2 spacious "family" stalls with built in sink. Bright and clean. Plenty of parking at multiple entrances. read more

This review is specifically on their new food court--Terrace. I appreciate their effort on making it more on trend with what a modern world food court should be. I particularly like the lounge area with the fireplace and low profile couches. There are also different seating arrangements to suit different group sizes. My only gripe is with their elevator. If you're just there for the food and don't want to be bothered with the rest of the mall, you're fine. However as soon as you want to get upstairs, and in my case, with a stroller, you've got a problem. The only way to go upstairs with a stroller is by the elevator, and there's only one elevator on this end. So there I was, along with some other families with strollers, forming this long queue in front of it, hoping it would come down and grace us with its presence someday. It almost felt we were being punished for having brought our kids along. Once it did arrive it could only fit two umbrella strollers, very cramped! My tandem(front & back double) stroller barely fit in that tiny glass box. Not impressed at all with their design. read more

Before they got all these new stores I would have given this place 5 stars. But now it's a 'high end mall' and not only can I not afford to shop at the new stores, but I wouldn't want to anyway because they're stores I hate. They got rid of stores I did like in order to bring in horrible stores like Hollister. I mean really, $100 for a shirt that looks no different than a Walmart shirt? No thanks. I miss Stitches where I could buy $15 jeans that would last me forever. And Bluenotes with its massive markdowns. At least they still have Eclipse, Sirens (although it's SOOOOO tiny that you won't find anything), and Coles. DON'T TOUCH THOSE! I WARN YOU! Personal opinion I guess. Is anyone else privy to the creeping mall sensation of over exposure to bright lights, paired with a mild sweat and dry mouth? Okay, so I may be a little weird, but I get to feeling awfully queer inside when I spend too much time in a wall. I start to swoon slightly, as the music pounds from each shop and a plethora of constant greetings are thrust my way. Nevertheless, the mall can be a fun pass-time, but one must remember to not stay too long, or else the heebie-jeebies set in. My favorite aspect of this mall: A&W in the food court (onion rings and root beer), the club inspired Liquor Commission and the Banana Republic. Halifax Shopping Centre has some nooks akin to the Dead Sea. For some reason crappy shops have been relegated to corner spaces, creating whole areas within the mall that are boring and underpopulated. You'll be walking and things will be lively and jive, then all of a sudden - nothingness. This can be kind of nice if you need to escape the hordes of mall junkies. Also, Sears can be a fun time. If you're in the market for some discount knickers, take a stroll through this department store. One time, I decided to sample the nail polish; one thing led to another, and my friend started to fully paint my nails. Needless to say, the cosmetic woman in charge of that section was not impressed. Passive aggressive glances and tight lipped glares really flew our way, but hey, the polish did say sample. I had to know if it was going to look good on all my fingers... So, yeah - the mall can be pretty fun, especially if you're trying to relive your teen mall rat years (I was a mega mall-rat, let me tell you). If you're a student, Club Monaco will give you a discount, so bring your ID. Oh, and if you're planning on going clubbing later in the night, swing my MAC and get a little makeover session in with one of the cosmetic gurus. I like to think of Halifax Shopping Centre as the Hilary Duff to Mic Mac Mall's Emma Stone. The HSC gets all the shiny new retailers that everyone gets all juiced up over, it's a pretty enough interior for a mall, and all in all there's very little wrong with the place. But still, I just can't help but find Mic Mac more interesting. The HSC and I only ever cross paths maybe once or twice a year and while I never mind being there, I never get why I'm there either. There are no stores that act as major draws for me so I'm usually puttering after someone who just haaad to visit [fill in fancy make-up shop name here]. Still, I gotta give them credit for putting those little lounge-type areas throughout the halls. It definitely makes for a nicer vibe as you stroll through! read more

First of all, please join me in calling this place "Hali Shop" because I would really like that to catch on. Second of all, I greatly enjoy this mall. It has its own Lush, Sephora (where I am spending far too much time), Envy, Birks, all my favourite spots. I can admire jewelery (there are SO MANY sparklies!), I can try on gorgeous clothes, I can not shop at Coach, and I can eat noodles. Really, what else could I ask for? Well, being able to get a wireless signal would be nice. There is a weirdo reason why one half of this mall gets no reception. It's something to do with a former electronics store, but one would think that having Apple move to town would have fixed this. Nope. One side of the mall is great. The other has no bars and hates letting me check-in. It's super weird. Still my fave mall in the city, though. read more

My family and I went shopping here back in June 2016 and it was amazing! It is a very modern shopping centre, it has so many different stores compared to other malls that i have been to in the past! Also, it is a great place to shopping for like school or even if you just want new stuff :) I will be returning to this mall again in the near future! :) read more

A Bright and Shinny mall! I like the Halifax Shopping Centre for quite a few reasons. But the first one that stands out is how bright it is. Not blinding bright, but it has good lighting so that I don't get depressed when I walk in. I don't know why I notice this but I have always been aware of malls that are a bit too dark on the inside and malls that are bright. It could be the paint that's used or the lack of actual lights, but a bright mall is always preferred over a darker one. I don't know why some mall's haven't caught onto this yet! So the Halifax Shopping Centre is bright. Good first start. Secondly, they have the same variety of stores that you would expect from any other mall. From bookstores to music shops, plenty of clothing stores, drug stores, sports, technology..the list goes on. One of the latest editions in the past three or four years was RW & Co. This store has quickly become my favorite place to shop! They have great deals, very fashionable clothes for guys between the ages of 25 to 45 and really friendly staff! I think every V-Neck T-shirt and every jacket I own is from that store! They also have a Sears and other furniture and nic nack stores. The food court has been improved over the years and it shows. There are windows for a ceiling over the food court so they can bring in as much natural light as possible. Those have always been there but its a big plus. The choices at the food court, in my opinion, have always been lacking but they still have about twelve or so stores, all serving a different kind of dish. From Chinese, to Lebanese, Subway to A&W, I'm sure you'll find what you want. I love the Halifax Shopping Centre. It is close to the Wal Mart that lives down the street, just in case you don't find what you need in the mall itself. But nine times out of ten I do find what I need at the Halifax Shopping Centre and at a reasonable price. I feel bad for not giving it five stars but I would love to see an even wider variety of clothing and children's stores. Two examples are a Disney Store and Toys R Us. And I'd love to see an Arcade put in. Being so close to schools, I'm sure this mall would benefit from some video Arcades. But four out of five stars ain't that bad and it is well deserved. The mall is not only esthetically pleasing, but they keep up with the competition by finding and adding new, great stores that most of the time offer competitive pricing. And at other times they add a Banana Republic. But that's life. If you are new to town and need a mall to go to, head to the Halifax Shopping Centre. I promise you won't be disappointed. My 100th Review! Can you believe it? OK Shopping Centre, I am not a fan of what you are doing. Rumor has it that you are raising rent for shops so that you can bring in higher class stores. If this is true, then you are very very mean. I miss some of the stores that used to be there; West 49, and Stitches (for jeans) but I enjoy Sephora and well, that's really the only new store I have been in except Coach which I cannot afford anyway. There are a few stores that you have; but there are some I will not step foot in.. ever.. Stop this madness! The food court is fine, just your typical food court. The restrooms are gross, when you head into the restroom it forks; men over the left and women straight ahead. However, when heading past the men's to get to the women's you can hear the boys takin a leak...ew... The HSC is much smaller than Mic Mac, so you can find what you're looking for pretty easily (if the store is still there). read more

I go to malls infrequently. If Sephora and MAC were anywhere else I would never darken the HSC's door. There is little else that draws me there. That sounds like this place is rubbish - it's not, it's just there. It's clean, has seating for folks who want to recuperate (or wait depending on who you are), has lots of selection for many. Just not for me. To schlep myself across the harbour for this mall is not on my wish list. If I am over in Halifax and happen to drive by I may poke my head in. They have a plethora (fun word of the day) of stores. My makeup favourites, Coach, Hollister, Aeropostale, Sears, Soft Moc, Cinnabon, Birks, La Senza... I could go on. When I was a kid, and the family would come into the city for a day of shopping, I always, always, always picked the Mic Mac over the HSC. And, now that I live closer to HSC, I still default to MicMac if I'm out for a general day of browsing. However, it's got to be argued that this mall has had a lot of big changes in the last couple of years, and there are a few news stores that I will pop in for, like Sephora and Banana Republic. I can't help but think that even with new stores I'm still a fairly picky shopper, so I go where the most stores for me are, and that's the Mic Mac. read more

I think the mall has been spiffed up a little lately, because it certainly looks a little less dated and worn around the edges than the MicMac. Not that it doesn't look a bit dated and worn around the edges, just less so than the competition. Traffic around the area can make it a complicated place to get to by car.. there's often a lot of gridlock, but on foot or by metro its much easier since it's right by the Mumford transit area. As for the store collection, it has some surprisingly upscale stores (ie Coach/Apple), especially considering that it doesn't give off any sort of upscale vibe. The food court is decent if you don't get there during the lunch hour crush. I still haven't really figured out the layout of the mall....might take some getting used to. read more

Halifax Shopping Centre is a mall, plain and simple. There's not much getting around that fact, and if you're not a mall lover (like me) there's nothing I'm going to say that will change your mind. Having said that, HSC is one of the least offensive malls out there. There's lots of natural light thanks to the glass panels and the open concept between the upper and lower levels. There are plenty of different shops to meet your fashion needs (unless, of course, you're plus-sized - then you're limited to Cotton Ginny and the (awful!) plus-sized section at Sears). All sorts of stores appeal to the different demographics - teen, tween, hipster, middle age, seniors and children. Additionally, there are plenty of target shops and services to keep you looking stylish: sunglass kiosks, purse and bag stores, dry cleaners and more will have you polished up niftily. The food court is actually not your standard mall court; there are all sorts of options for you, whether you feel like burgers or sushi or japanese. Healthy options abound, although there is certainly enough fries and onion rings to go around. And don't forget Orange Julius! A scoop of protein powder makes any smoothie a great meal alternative. HSC is a-ok, as far as malls are concerned. I'd still rather order online, but when I need something at the mall, this is where I'd rather head. read more

A trip to the mall is never at the top of my list. The enclosed confines of otherwise unrelated consumer entities are enough to put one's soul on the shelf. Stale air and forced atmosphere plays like a broken record, but its ok-- fast fashion and neon lights prevail! Ok. I'll lighten up, but a trip to any mall is rarely productive, in my experience. There is no magic; no mystery-- just blatant excess. I tend to prefer a little seduction with my shopping habits, or at least a bit of breathing room. That being said, a recent trip to the Halifax Shopping Centre proved to be, well, not that bad. A Wednesday, midday, and the spot was at minimal hustle. Durable. My sister sparked the idea of a mall trip, as she wanted to pick up some new bed sheets and some springtime wardrobe. I figured I could find something Yelp-worthy. So far so good. Of course you've got your token mall brats tearing around like nobody's business. Rihanna ring-tones on full blast cling to stringy hair-do's with too much eyeliner, and it makes me recall my own days of youth. I find it comforting that there are still kids out there with no sense of style. Its endearing. Off topic again. But what I'm really getting at is that this mall is actually decent. I wouldn't venture during rush hour, but a week day is something I can handle. I left with a few great deals, and was genuinely impressed with some of the great shoe variety available. I stand corrected... as a wee bit of a foot snob. The HSC seems to cover all ground for beyond the basics of shopping. Some great stores (Club Monaco, Yes) alongside some not so great stores... but just be selective. Fashionistas can surely find a few good pieces, and with the low price advantage. (As opposed to boutiques) Its two well balanced floors to satisfy the sprectrum of shopper needs. I've had my fix for the time being, but my final thoughts are that the HSC is something I can handle. read more

I love going to the HSC because the lighting is just perfect, most of the staff in stores are friendly; and most of all there's only two floors so it's not that intimidating for people that don't like malls much. With the renovations being done, i like this mall. I do mainly pay my bills here, and as I am not much of a mall person. Its ok. but its a mall what can you do. The store selection is good, although no great. I do have a ciuple favorite stores i like to go buy stuff from. and getting it all done on a couple days before christmas was great read more

Didn't feel like being in the apartment, went in to kill some time. Bought a coffee. The sitting area appears to be where groups hang, to chat, catch up , eat. It's a social scene of sorts. For sure there are those taking a load off their feet between pre-school shopping sprees, but there are those as well that do not shop at all. There is the elderly, from what i'm told, is part of their daily routine between blood pressure check, morning walk, and then pre lunch tea. Now that is social cool. This place not just is for shoppers, but its a social place encompassing all the spectrums of life, all under one roof. A melting pot of reasons to come. I bought a newspaper, and found myself as well, watching people. It was truly a great hour and half. Soon enough it was time to go. I will be back. At the end, I realized that my reason to come, was no reason. :-) read more

Would've given this mall a 5 out of 5 except they are doing never ending construction here. Has to be close to two years that this place has been in shambles. This is a great mall. Obviously the only mall in Halifax, there are a lot of stores in this store. There are three levels I believe, with over 100 shops including huge ones like Sears. Yup, everything you would want from a mall is here. Quite classy and just a place you would want to shop. There is a large cafeteria circle as well, with a large variety that includes Tim HORTONS and subway. I don't think that there is anything you cannot buy from this mall. I grew up going to this Mall it has just about everything You could want. My Two Favorite Stores in it are HMV and of course The Tim Horton's. The only Gripe I have is that the Dollar Store was removed that was a great little Store for People with a Tight budget and it seems there's a lot of High End Shops Showing up in there. It has a Great Location and Tons of Parking and the Employees at the Service Desk are always Friendly and more than Happy to Help if there's something You can't Find in the Mall.
