This museum showcases horses, trainers, jockeys and events! Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and I believe there is a discount for military. It's a very open and airy museum that has a flow but you can wander in and out of the rooms at your own pace and direction. They have a couple rooms that are "feature" (temporary) exhibits so if you've been in the past... chances are those rooms are different now. There is a short (30 minutes I think) movie that they show throughout the day. They will make an announcement and gather folks up and take you to the "theater room". There are benches along the walls to sit so you don't have to stand the whole time. There are stairs up and down ... but if you have mobility issues, they have lifts that you can use.

We got a bird's eye view of the fall foliage as you could see the White Mountains, the Green Mountains, and New York State. Quite impressive. Of course you can read about the historic significance of this battle that occurred during the American Revolutionary War. There's a gift shop/ticket office and restrooms.

It on its own circular lot with plenty of parking to stroll around and take some photos. There is an exhibit inside for free on the monument and $8 to go to the top to see the panoramic view of VT, MA, and NY. They don't open until 10 am, but we got there early and were chilling, and they opened up about twenty minutes early for us, which was cool. There is a nice gift shop and a bathroom. The views were nice! The employee who opened the obelisk gave us some information on the monument and was very friendly. This was on our route and was worth the stop. It doesn't take a long time, but it's a nice bit of American history honoring the American Revolution.

WOW! The Famous Hattie's Mardi Gras Soirée!…read more What an evening.. A once in a life time chance to win 2 tickets to Hattie's Mardi Gras Soiree at the historic Canfield Casino and we won! Left home early as we have a 45 minute drive on a snowy cold night. I'm sure glad we did as we beat the crowd and checked in without a hitch. The cocktail lounge was decorated in festive Mardi Gras feathers, beads, and masks. Just lovely... Yes this was a fund raiser sponsored by many local companies donating their merchandise to be sold at chinese aution and a 50/50 drawing later in the evening. We had our complimentary Mardi Gras Cocktail and hors d'oeuvres were passed by amazing waitstaff from Hattie's Restaurant in downtown Saratoga. We listened to the wonderful music of Dylan Perrillo Orchestra which was kinda like Russian, Polish or Oompah band different but fun but they did play more up to date tunes too. Just a great time! As the clock struck the 7th hour the doors to the enormous dining room all decorated similarly in Mardi Gras regalia. There had to be about 500 people attending so I rushed back to the the rear to snag one of the few tables in the back of the room. We were lucky to join two very nice people at their table to enjoy the delicious buffet supplied by Hatti's Restaurant, 45 Phila Street, Saratoga Springs and the famous chef Jasper Alexander. The music Soul Session began the dancers danced, the energy heightened and the music soared... Party Time! Thanks to Dan, Albany Yelp Ambassador, Hattie's Restaurant and the Canfield Casino for such a fun evening!

Let me start out this review by saying that we are generally not B&B people, but the idea of…read morestaying on a farm (and I won't lie, visiting with their dogs) won out over the anonymity of a hotel and we went ahead of booked a weekend stay with Ed and Irene at Cold Moon Farm. It turned out to be a perfect life choice for a weekend of great conversation, goats, delicious food, and golden retrievers. Ed and Irene are wonderful hosts and it felt more like visiting long lost friends or family than turning up at a stranger's door. Their home is beautiful; we stayed in the Vermonter room downstairs, enjoying the pool table in the games area. It also wouldn't be a proper review without acknowledging Muriel and Charlie, their two gorgeous, friendly golden retrievers. Ed, Irene, and their staff were all gracious, friendly people. Matt was kind enough to let us tag along on the 6:30am chores (I know, most reviews talk about how much children loved meeting the animals - but these 30-somethings loved it too!) and we had the pleasure of meeting Sarah the next morning. The breakfasts were divine - fresh ricotta with honey and pepper, scrambled eggs, french toast, bacon, sausage, fresh baked bread with butter and jam, yogurt with granola - and all farm to table. Portions were more than generous and while I don't usually eat bread (and always say I don't miss it), I wound up having two pieces of Irene's bread with my breakfast. I'd miss bread more if all bread could taste like that! Irene was also kind enough to show us how she makes ricotta and yogurt, which we loved (almost as much as eating it!). The hosts and staff give very generously of their time and we absolutely loved our stay. We are already scheming excuses to go back to pet Muriel and Charlie, visit with Pippi (my favorite goat of all goats), and maybe convince Irene to let us take a cooking class with her (or try her pletzels). Thank you to everyone at Cold Moon Farm for a great weekend; I really can't say enough positive things about the experience. If all B&Bs were like this one, I could very easily see myself becoming a B&B person.

The museum is connected to a general store that sells a lot of souvenirs, syrups, candy, snacks and also has a scenic bridge to stand on while looking out at the foliage. Most of the collection here is quite old, which gives you an interesting historical insight into how displays used to be done. The highlight of the museum is the live animal exhibit. All of the animals, which include both birds and reptiles, are unable to be re-released to the wild, and many of the birds have injuries that severely impair their flight. The enclosures are clean and the animals are all very well cared for. The museum is much larger than it looks from the outside, and is accessed through the gift shop upstairs.
