Do not rent from this company. They will rip you off and it will be the worst living experience you've ever had. We started renting this house one week ago and we've already had several severe issues such as a mice infestation, holes in the wall, grime all over the ceilings, mold, duct and ventilation issues, and more. When we moved in, the house was disgusting. No one had cleaned the place and it was clear that no one had even come to look at the property or address any issues at all. We have had to send various maintenance requests, call several times, and go in person for them to even send people out, yet almost none of the issues have actually been resolved. Not to mention we paid a $110 lock change fee and only received one key that works. They still have not given us any working keys for the remaining roommates. Even if the price seems more affordable than most housing in Bloomington, it's that way for a reason. It is not worth the money. Protect your peace, sanity, and health. read more

I sent it that day and never heard back from him. This forced us to find last minute housing. They then tried to charge us for things in our lease covered by the security deposit. To say that Parker REM is the slum lord of Bloomington is no lie. They consistently do little to help tenants, nickel and dime at any possible instance, are extremely slow to respond to emails or requests- the only time in my 6 years with Parker REM that they seemed to give a single damn was when the city was about to inspect the property. Black mold was recurring in the property, and it took many requests for them to take care of it. When the management team switched hands 3 times over the summer of 2017, I and my roommates had to pay two security deposits...guess who is now out $2,000 after trumped up move-out fees? (Even when there was no move-in inspection, and our photos of pre-move-in damage were written off) Parker Real Estate Management is among the worst in Bloomington, and I hope that no one has to experience what I, and my roommates, had to go through with them. This is the first time I have ever written a review for anything to be honest. I never do because why would I care what anyone said on the internet but there has never been a more deserving company to waste my time writing a shit review for. Anyways, every time I have to interact with parker (which is constantly, our house is a pile of burning garbage and something breaks every week) I typically find that they are the least helpful and least available organization I have ever been forced to talked to. our house flooded this winter after pipes froze then burst. I did not even hear from Parker the day that I arrived after calling the "emergency line" 5 times in one hour. When they did finally show up after around 30 hours of waiting with a flooded house absolutely no information was given to me about who was financially responsible, how long repairs will take, who should we talk to about our $800 + water bill we've been saddled with. In fact I am typing this review while upstairs in a house with no carpets or floors and an unlivable first floor. We are being forced to shove 5 people all upstairs in a Bloomington rental, and if you are familiar, Its cramped. There is like 5 different directions I can even take from this point forward, I cant even decide. I'll start with contact. Over the past month of living like this we have tried calling Parker so many times for any scrap of info or help we can get and when we finally are able to talk someone once every week when they decide to pick up the phone, we get a "Let me tell the boss". So I'm going to go ahead and do it for them. Boss of Parker management. Please do anything to add some dignity into your disgusting rental practices praying on underfunded college kids who don't have time to get a degree in law to read to the lease that explains to us that we have no rights and will be constantly fucked over by the lessor. This company wins the prize for the WORST in B-town for decades. Over 30 yrs ago my brothers rented from PRE. They were zapped with electricity every time they turned on the shower! That's why they win the worst for decades award. It took threats of legal action to get that fixed. Looks like nothing has changed. I tried to convince my son to NOT rent from PRE but it was "a fun cheap house," in the roommates' minds. PRE never did anything about the green-blue mold growing on every surface of the basement. They ignored requests for repairs for everything in the house. They also ignored all parent requests with "you aren't on the lease." Fine, but I know how to help my son file a complaint with BPD for theft. And we did file that after PRE stole the security deposit. When moving out, they charged a fee for cleaning the kitchen. We complained because the kitchen was clean. PRE sent pictures as "proof" of the kitchen cabinets and refrigerator. The problem was the pictures were not of their refrigerator or even their kitchen. PRE charged for the screen the guys had repeatedly asked PRE to repair over the year. They sent pictures of the bikes PRE claimed the maintenance people had to take to the dump, yet those same bikes were in our garage when the pictures arrived. Obviously the photos were from before they moved out. They ignored our complaints and refused to give the money back. read more

This business is total corruption, and screwed my beloved family financially. Be careful when interested in their properties, as every string possible will be pulled. I signed a 12 month lease with them upon being verbalized correctly, and was falsely placed into a 17 month long lease in which I cannot get out of. They will do anything in their power to make a profit in some matter. They obviously scam their tenants, and prey on college students and their money. Any lie that can be made up will be done. DO NOT RENT! While some of the prices may be good, keep in mind that it comes at a cost. They will take every bit of your security deposit and chalk it up to whatever they can come up with. They literally charged me for a planter box outside that wasn't even mine and was left there. The house I lived in had a cracking foundation and skunks living under it. The house nearly caught on fire. They will give you half a days notice to show your house and expect you not to be there, OH and your house has to be spotless for the showings. The literally start showing your house in October, two months after I moved in. I literally gave them over 1100 dollars for a deposit and got half of it back. They claimed it was "filthy," when I spent a month cleaning, but moved into a house that actually had pee on the bathroom floors from the previous tenants. My fridge door was being held together with duck tape. the drawers in the kitchen fell off and I had to fix them. The deck was rotted. The list goes on and on. read more

Do not rent from these people. They refuse to fix anything, even our toilet seats which were so old that the enamel was worn off and they were just the exposed particle board. They will bold-faced lie to you about being flexible on some of their policies in order to get you to sign the lease, and then refuse to work with you/compromise on any issue. I will be filing a complaint with HAND tomorrow about their inability to deal with the bio-hazard that they call a dumpster area, which I and several other people in the complex have repeated asked them to do. I've been a tenant for several years. The hot water in my apartment wasn't working. The maintenance crew was at my building for some other reason, and I mentioned the issue to Mr. Aaron as I was passing by. He listened to me and fixed the problem on the spot, instead of shrugging it off and telling me to contact to the office. I also vented to him that I had a flat tire and had no idea what to do about it. This blessing of a man went through the effort of changing my tire and even patched the old one. Aaron went above and beyond. Parker Management you need to do whatever you can to keep this excellent employee; give this man a raise. I'm sure the rest of your employees would have excellent customer service if you show them the same respect, AKA pay them a livable wage. Happy employees = less one star yelp reviews. They'll make you fight for every penny, they take advantage of students and poor folks by offering low prices then charging ridiculous fees, sometimes without even giving a reason! They'll accuse you of being late when you aren't, they'll ratchet up costs however they can, they're rude and unhelpful to tenants. Don't let these crooks take your money-- it's better to go somewhere more expensive because in the long run Parker properties are more expensive and the time you have to waste on them isn't worth saving $50 a month on rent. This is one of those really evil property management companies that should be completely avoided. My daughter attends college in Bloomington. I helped her rent a house for her final year at school in Indiana. The place was dirty when she moved in but she loved the location, so we went with it. She moved out recently and we did a thorough cleaning to the point where it was cleaner after we moved, than when we moved her in. They only returned 30% of a large security deposit. I've done some checking around the area and on the web and found out this is a ripoff they pull constantly. Phyllis Bond is the main woman behind this criminal scam. She's a real estate broker #PB20601393. Wendy Bomba and Christopher Bomba are also involved in running this property management scam. They all try to hide behind the company name and voicemail while they ripoff as many students as possible. I felt a fiduciary duty to go on record and warn people about this. The best way to fight this is to file a complaint against Bond with the Indiana Attorney General. It can be done online or mail. read more

I lived in a condo they managed and took photos of how dirty it was when i moved in and they still stole my deposit with lame excuses at the end even though I cleaned very thoroughly- way cleaner than it was when I moved in. They also charged me for the last water and electric bills, which i had paid. There was a 5 inch wind chime stuck to the bottom of the balcony which i had never even noticed- it was from previous renter, but they charged me $50 for that. They wanted to know 6 months in advance if I would be moving in August, and I was house shopping so I asked for a little more time to decide- they rented it out from under me even though they had 8 identical empty condos in the same edition. Been renting from Parker since 2015. They've always been great. Anything that needs fixed they repair right away, if the property owner allows. Over 3 years we received a new stove, new dishwasher, new furnace, new roof and more. Recently moved and decided to stay with them. They went out of their way to allow us to move into the new place quickly. Deposit and pet deposit from previous address was fully refunded. As long as you pay your rent on time, and don't trash the property, I don't believe there will be any problems. We have loved renting from Parker. read more

Parker is the absolute worst real estate agency I have ever had the displeasure of using. They think that since me and my roommates are college students that we don't know that our appliances should work and our house should be cleaned before move in. When we moved in, the house smelled absolutely awful like cat urine. We complained, and nothing has been done. It took them over six weeks to fix our dryer and washer, neither work at a level anyone would find satisfactory. They do showings of the house without alerting us first then send us warnings for not being "ready." Our kitchen light barely works and when they came to fix it, the maintenance man simply looked at it and said, "Well, there isn't anything I can do about that." The basement windows do not fit and I assume this will lead to flooding when it begins to snow. We plan to contact them about it but doubt anything will be done. DO NOT rent from Parker. Their reputation speaks for itself. I was a tenant of Parker Management my sophomore year at Indiana University. It my first experience renting and having a place of my own. Parker Management completely ruined that experience. There is a long laundry list of terrible things I could list on here that they did wrong and all of the laws they broke. They did not care about our problems and needs and went out of there way to ignore us. They would send us random bills each month just to see if we would pay them. I had to call and tell them that the bills made no sense and that we aren't paying them (mostly water bills even though I paid my water bills online through the city of Bloomington). Our toilets and water often stopped working and they would not fix it. There was one day that we did not have a toilet for over 24 hours in a house with three boys. Their maintenance crew was rude and even tried attacking me at one point. He charged me and got in my face over a replaced door knob. I had to kick him off the porch and demand they never send him again. My roommates and I ended up having to hire a lawyer due to an inspection of the house that came back terrible. They had multiple code violations as well as the house being covered in black mold and asbestos. They tried to keep our money after all of this and said that I was the one who attacked their maintenance man. They never acknowledged the mold and inspection at all and tried to restrict us from breaking the lease (and live in asbestos and black mold air). After a back and forth with lawyers, they let us out the lease a couple months early and gave us all our money back. If you are thinking about renting from Parker.... DO NOT DO IT. It will be the biggest mistake. They are nothing but slumlords looking to rip off hardworking college students who don't know any better. TERRIBLE. These people do not care about you or your health. I took a tour of my apartment 3 months before my move in date. Everything seemed fine, the place seemed perfect, the place smelled fine. When my move in date arrived, I walked into an apartment smelling strongly of cigarette smoke. I have a 14 month old. It turns out, the HVAC unit draws air from the connecting apartment who smoke heavily inside the building. So if we use the HVAC smoke blows through the vents making our apartment smell like a casino. They must have purposely left the AC off when I came to look at the unit 3 months prior to my move in date. According to the CDC no level of exposure to second hand smoke is safe, especially for children with developing lungs and no air filter system can safely remove the toxins from second hand smoke. We have stopped using the HVAC system and after much conversation with Parker Real Estate, they refuse to let down their client Stephen Freeman (owner of the property) and release us from this health hazard. read more

My husband and I spent 9 hours cleaning the townhouse we rented after we moved our stuff out, and made sure to double check everything that was on their move-out checklist. They charged us $200 in cleaning fees, $50 to replace a lightbulb that was "buzzing" (NOT burnt out), and $150 to repaint because they had done a poor job patch painting before we moved in. There was BLOOD on the wall when we moved in, the appliances were all filthy, and we had to send them a certified mail letter before they'd fix the refrigerator that was broken (it took two months & the letter for anything to happen!). They're awful. The rent may be cheap, but they will make your life miserable, and do everything that they possibly can to take your entire security deposit, no matter how well you take care of the place. In ten-plus years as a renter, Parker R.E.M. is the least professional, least organized, most inefficient property management company I've encountered. The property rented from them has also been the least-maintained. Their rental contract is the most rule-laden I've ever seen, with financial penalties for the tiniest infractions (such as $25/hour cleaning costs if the property is not left in a "professionally-cleaned" condition upon moving out). We asked for flexibility in both the move-in and move-out dates, both 2-3 months prior to the in-out date, and were refused. Twice (so far) they have failed to notify us when bringing a prospective tenant to view the home. Once the door was left unlocked, and none of us were home to lock it. The representatives showing our home are vague with details - they weren't able to tell us which company provided internet service, and in hearing them speak with prospective tenants they can't answer basic questions about the property's energy efficiency or who provides water and trash service (the property is on the county/city line). Rather than replacing the old pet-soiled carpet prior to our move in date, they steam cleaned it, which as anyone who works in carpet cleaning knows only serves to spread odors around. After attempting a second steam clean, they replaced our carpet 3 weeks after we moved in, making it impossible for us to unpack, and charging us full rent while we were only able to live in half the house. The basement has water issues due to failure to clean the gutters- the water cannot properly funnel away from the foundation. The company that cuts the grass on our lawn arbitrarily stopped mowing part of the yard in an effort to save themselves time, even though we continued to pay the same price in rent. The furnace broke in the dead of winter; and no wonder since the repairman described it as an "old model". The shower head and tub faucet had to be replaced. The toilet clogs easily, which the person replacing the shower head /faucet attributed to the age and quality of the toilet. Sunshine can be seen pouring in from the top of the backdoor, and when we asked a representative from Parker what was to be done about it, we were told it was installed properly. Though Parker's list of cleaning responsibilities include cleaning all windows, ours have been full of cobwebs and dead insects between the inside and outside panes since the date we moved in. Also, anyone with dogs should think twice before renting with Parker R.E.M.; any time someone comes to do maintenance work (such as changing the furnace filter, where no specific date but rather a few week's timespan is given), or anytime a prospective tenant comes to view the property your dog must be crated. This current property has been viewed at least 20 times since we gave notice of canceling the lease- six months before the lease is up is when Parker requests notice, and the inconvenience of strangers viewing your home is something else to consider when choosing a rental company. Properties can be shown between 11-5 M-Saturday, so anyone not working the traditional 9-5ish job will be inconvenienced at some point, unless they plan to rent from Parker indefinitely which, given the quality of their service and property upkeep, I suspect is highly unlikely. read more

Bloomington is a tough rental market so if you are DESPERATE to rent one of their properties expect no security deposit back and I would actually warn you that you might owe them money based on what they charge. I seriously lived in the house for three weeks in my year lease- so you can imagine that the house was like I found it the day I moved in. I have never written a review on Yelp but felt such disappointment in this company I actually took the time and downloaded the Yelp app to make this review- I get everyone is trying to make some money but there's right and then there's wrong. Basically it shouldn't be called a security deposit, just another payment. If you are a parent with a college student looking to rent please be prepared to cough up the security deposit- in fact I recommend that you don't clean the property when you leave because no matter how you leave the property they will steal your money. read more

They charge for a ton of little things, that other apartments owners don't (i.e. carpet cleaning, and changing locks( which they charge twice for; ends up being a total of $140)). I have had the WORST experience with Parker Management. When I first moved into my one bedroom apartment it was so dirty I had to clean nonstop for two days before even moving anything in. They over charged me for every maintenance call I made, even though they never actually fixed anything. The window is still broken, door frame cracked and wiring in one of the lights doesn't work a year later. They come into your apartment all the time and they are so hard to talk to as they are always very rude. We moved into a Parker managed property over 3 years ago. We read the terrible reviews but were in a difficult spot and needed a place to move in TWO days. We found a lovely house that was empty and at first Parker told us they needed time for the paper work etc. before we could move in. Since the place was empty I thought that was completely unnecessary and given our urgent situation I made my case. The front desk person was unmoved but the manager heard me talking and asked me to come in his office. I think I cried, but none the less he made sure we could move in that weekend provided we had the money etc. (we did). Since then, that Manager has moved on and no longer works there. My future experiences have been mostly good. No major complaints but our house is also in great shape and we're good tenants. The only time I was upset, was when I received a notice that Parker received complaints from neighbors that our lawn was too tall and if we didn't fix it within so many days (maybe 3?) they would charge us for mowing. Our lawn was NOT in bad shape AND our neighbors lawns were always in bad shape, so this complaint did not seem legitimate. It was also the beginning of spring when lawns need mowed once or twice a week. I called the office and was informed that they sent an intern around to take photos and send letters to all tenants about their lawn. When I questioned the accusation regarding the neighbors complaining, she repeated the former and never really cleared the air.
