There are lovely parks surrounding the lake, and the paths are nicely paved connecting to Minneapolis, Maple Grove, and Minnetonka. The paths are ideal for biking, running, and a nice stroll. There's lots and lots of parking, Medicine Lake is one of my favorite lakes and I love the walking paths something one can enjoy all year long with the change of seasons, oh the colors and the fragrance! I'm so glad I found a place to gush about the amazing trails they maintain. I started cycling just this past March and as a newbie safety and accessibility were my top priorities. It quickly became clear the trails managed by Three Rivers Park District are in a league of their own. The Luce Line Regional & State Trail has been a total game-changer. Since it's so close to my house I can ride my bike to many places without having to navigate busy roads. The ease of access combined with the well-maintained and clearly marked trails has even put my parents' minds at ease - a big bonus when I head out for a long ride. It's made cycling stress-free and fun for me and gives my family peace of mind. When I need to get into downtown Minneapolis quickly and safely the North Cedar Lake Regional Trail is my go-to. It's a direct and secure route so I can focus on the ride not traffic. And when I want to get into the "wild" the Lake Minnetonka Regional Trail delivers. It's great to have all these options under one umbrella, urban commuting to scenic escapes. Three Rivers Park District truly lives up to their "Twin Cities Adventure" promise. This is another fabulous trail in the western suburbs of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Unlike the Dakota Rail Trail which is asphalt, this is not paved which makes it ideal for runners and walkers looking for a lower impact surface. It is rarely busy and is beautiful. There is a parallel horse trail and while you don't see equines often, I have on occasion over the last 10+ years of active trail use seen riders. You will cross a number of streets so you need to be careful but there isn't much traffic on most of the cross streets. There are a number of parking spots for the trail's entry. Enjoy! In winter it can be a bit difficult to traverse as the footprints freeze making a bumpy terrain. However a good pair of winter hiking boots or depending upon the conditions, snow shoes, makes for a lovely winter trek. Enjoy!

So many reasons why you have to love the LRT…read more 1) It's just an awesome paved trail. It's a little MSP luxury most other cities don't have. 2) It's beautiful. Great scenary along the way. 3) It has a volunteer that rides along and helps people out, like a buddy who gets you home if you're too drunk. 4) It's long. The gravel on the trail is always nicely evened out, and the paths are wide enough to support people going both directions comfortably. It makes a fun day trip to ride in from Edina or Hopkins and go to a restaurant on the Minnetonka lakeside. Excelsior is a little further along the trail, so if you want to go shopping then that's an option too! The trail can get a little crowded on nice days, and there are kind of a lot of stop signs at a few points. But overall a fun way to spend an afternoon!

The website lists the address as 135 Lake St, Excelsior, MN, but based on Apple Maps their location is more accurately described as West Lake Street or First Street, as there is a baseball diamond at 135 Lake Street. We called the company for help as we were lost and to let them know we were running late as a result, and they were unsympathetic but eventually got us to the right spot (albeit late for an only one hour reservation). The two students working said we still ONLY had the time remaining for our hour reservation (i.e. until 5pm) so we had lost the time we couldn't find the location and made no accommodation for us, although they also noted there were no reservations after ours. I completely understand needing to avoid a scheduling conflict, but I certainly wished for a little more understanding after not finding the location since they clarified we wouldn't create an issue by simply pushing our reservation back 20 minutes (if that would have been allowed).
