There's also an RV area with about 30 sites, and at only $20 a day, it's a fantastic deal. It wasn't full during our stay, which made it feel peaceful and uncrowded. My husband did complain about the mosquitoes, but oddly enough, they don't bother me as long as I'm sitting next to him, he's nature's bug spray, I guess. The camp host was incredibly sweet and welcoming, and we loved the little camp cats roaming around. One of them, Shadow, was especially adorable and even let us pet him. All in all, a great campsite with a relaxed vibe and some charming furry company. Would happily stay again.

Refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher are all in the cabin as well (we stayed in cabin 3). Parking spaces are conveniently located next to the cabin for easy loading and unloading. The screened back porch features ample seating areas and a ceiling fan to keep things breezy. You will encounter mosquitoes, as you would expect staying in a forest, so bring mosquito spray and/or peppermint oils to deter. I made sure to rub peppermint on the kiddos when they were sleeping to keep them at bay. There are designated fishing areas and swimming areas. Also you can hike! There are camping spaces which we want to stay at next time, it looks clean and kempt! Amazing place to experience :)

I had the opportunity on my day off from work to come visit this park in all of its beauty. My first boat outing was with their seasonal ranger Jewell West, she was very knowledgeable and personable! She was definitely passionate about the eagles, the park, our beautiful state, and the preservation of our state's natural wonders. On our outing we saw nearly 16 eagles, plenty of osprey, and many other native species. It was a very enjoyable way to spend the morning, and a very beautiful and relaxing ride! That afternoon I came back for the history of the lake boat ride, it was shorter than the eagle spotting venture, but was also with seasonal ranger West. She painted a unique picture about the geological origins of the lake and its troubled past. It was very interesting, and I really enjoyed hearing about it while actively seeing it in person. The facilities at the state park are brand new and they are amazing. They have very enriching and hands on ways to experience this park's history and biological elements. Many of their facilities are brand new due to increased funding and repairs after a tornado a few years ago. The flora and fauna of the lake are immensely beautiful. This place is most definitely a hidden gem for west Tennessee! I look forward to coming back this July for the 250th anniversary of the USA celebration.

Why have I never visited the White River National Wildlife Refuge before? I have deprived myself of…read morea great destination for far too long. Okay, the NWR is not for everyone as it lacks paved roads, developed camp sites, running water, electricity or even sanitation facilities (not even a porta-potty). But for those wanting a true outdoor experience, the NWR can't be beat and its free! Your tax dollars have paid for access and camping. I highly recommend the north side entrance on Highway 1 between Dewitt and Marvell. A short drive down the gravel road on the north side leads to several lakes and adjacent camping areas. Just ensure you're camped inside the white paint rings on the trees. All of the lakes feature gravel boat launches and you will need a boat, canoe or kayak to take full advantage of NWR waters. You do need to be fishing or hunting in the NWR in order to camp and rangers and game wardens were active the days we visited. Also you'll need a free NWR permit which you can download or pickup at the visitor center just off of Highway 1 on the Dewitt side of the White River bridge. While picking up your permit in person, take time to walk the Upland trail. Plan about 30 minutes for the circuit. Kids will also love the diorama in the visitor center. I plan to return several times each year to fish in the NWR and, no, I won't tell you my favorite lake and camping spot. You'll need to find your own.

If you go in flood season, the boardwalk should be open and give you great views of wildlife during this time of year. We saw several different kinds of fish and snakes swimming in the water as well as brightly colored birds everywhere. We would like to return after flood season to compare, but we're sure it will be just as great. When you go down the road toward the visitors, don't pass it up. The building with the solar panels and flag is both the office AND visitor's center. We thought it was just the office and ended up on a narrow, deeply rutted dirt road leading to a couple lodges.

This park offers informational spots/posts along the way. When I visited, it was mostly dry so I didn't see any aquatic animals, no snakes, however there were plenty of birds in the trees singing. This park is located a couple minutes from a major highway. It offers a few parking spaces and there is no fee to enter/park.

When we arrived there was only one other car in the parking area. This was slightly concerning because we appear to be in the middle of nowhere and you just never know the intent of others. As such, I do NOT suggest visiting this place solo. This landmark is a well maintained boardwalk above a swamp. The boardwalk leads you to the focal point of the swamp which is a monument that indicates the initial point from which all surveys of property acquired through the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 originated. If you are like me, it's been a long time since I had a history lesson. With that being said, there are several educational exhibits on the boardwalk to allow you to brush up on the Louisiana purchase. I enjoyed walking the boardwalk. It is a short distance to get to the end. I suggest taking your time to be still and listen to the sounds of the swamp. We saw a few birds and frogs along the way The signage indicates that alligators have been spotted in the swamp, but we did not see any during our visit. If you have an opportunity to visit, go for it!

The hiking trail was well maintained and offered a wide variety of all things nature, frogs, birds, deer, beautiful trees. There is a disc golf course that I would have loved to use. Maneuvering along the narrow and winding campground roadways can be quite challenging with a tow, but with a little patience and skill it is doable. If you like peace and serenity this is your place.

Just $25 a day…read morefor the small RV section, and that includes free electricity, water, and gray water dumping right at your site. Black water dumping is available at a designated area. The highlights for me were being near the water, and the absolute gem of a camp hostess, Melissa. When my husband checked us in he said, "She's really friendly," and a few hours later I met her myself and had to agree. Plus, I got to meet the camp kitties. Shadow, the all-black mini panther, totally stole my heart. What a sweetheart. The campground was very quiet and peaceful, with free firewood and super clean bathrooms that are ice cold, which was a total win on a hot day. The showers are free and in great condition too. The entire park is tidy and well maintained. It's a dry park, so if you're planning to enjoy a cocktail by the fire, just be a little stealthy and bring a cozy. Civilization is about a 15-minute drive away, but still dry... so plan accordingly. Highly recommend this place. We will definitely be back.

Cyclists have to use the paved trail so walkers and dog walkers can rest with ease There are restrooms at every pavilion. The park also has playgrounds, shelter, a campground and forested hiking trails. The best thing for those with dogs is the dog jumping pier. My dogs had a blast on the warm day we were here. There is also a dog beach.
