I worked there several years ago. When I was hired the original Drs. that owned the practice were helpful, kind & lovely people . Long story short... they retired & placed a reprobate person in charge... she is phony & superficial to say the least. Dr. Myer has treated three of my cats during their life. Sadly I have had to put two of them to sleep. Dr. Myer did everything she could to treat them when they started to get sick. She treated my second cat since she was an eight week kitten. She saved my third cat when he was 3 months old from an infection. Also the entire staff are wonderful and compassionate people. Just avoid this place. But, if it's the end of the world and all other vets are unavailable be sure to always ask how much everything costs and look at a breakdown of the charges before paying. Also ask questions about procedures: they called an x-ray a "view 2" and I didn't ask what that was, but I knew an x-ray was unnecessary for the issue my dog was having...$285 later...... Vets here are incentivized to have you agree to needless procedures and tests for extra $$$. read more

After my cat caught a bat, I needed to book an appointment for a rabies booster. Parkside had a really quick turnaround - I called on Saturday, got in first thing on Monday. They were great from the first phone contact, and were even able to accurately quote me the (very reasonable) price of the visit. When we came in for the appointment, the reception staff was pleasant and kind, and the waiting area was bright and clean. The paperwork was a breeze, and I was seen after a ten minute wait. The vet, Dr. Hotaling, was really great: he explained what he was doing throughout the exam, while still making pleasant small talk. The support staff was great too, including the tech who was helping out with the exam. If I weren't moving soon, I would definitely return to Parkside for future appointments. Overall, this was a great visit. Well, from my perspective at least. My cat hated it. read more

I have brought both my cats to this vet and have had appointments with Dr. Green, Dr. Glisserman, Dr. Anderson, and Dr. Hotaling. One of my kitties has a chronic condition which was exasperated by a specialty vet in the area (prescribing medication that gave my kitty diabetes)! Dr. Green and Dr. Glisserman have helped immensely managing my cat's health and through their treatment, were able to get the diabetes into remission for hundred of dollars cheaper. The doctors at Parkside are very knowledgeable and have excellent "bedside" manner - as they are compassionate and patient. They take the time to explain everything thoroughly and in a way that someone who isn't trained in veterinary medicine can understand. They do not push for unnecessary testing and do not judge like other vets do. I love how Parkside is always able to make time for emergency appointments and how the doctors there actually care about the health and well being of your pet. They even do follow up calls a few days after your pet starts new medications and treatments to check in. All of the vet technicians and the front desk staff are very friendly and focused on helping your pet and you feel at ease! Parkside is cheaper and the quality of care is much better than other doctors in the Albany area. The whole staff really works well together as a care team with a priority on helping your pet (and you!) be healthy and comfortable. read more

Both my cat and my dog are Parkside patients, and I have always been very happy with the care and service we get there. I have found them to be accessible whenever I needed to get in, and have had great success emailing the practice through the website when I couldn't get away to make a phone call. Both the staff and the vets are all obviously animal-people, and they remember me and my animals whenever we come through. We have seen Dr. Burroughs and Dr. Looney as well as a few others, all of whom were very professional and friendly. I also have to give them a plug because, more than once, when I have asked about a service or treatment that was expensive but unnecessary, they have told me so. I have never felt pressured or shamed by Parkside vets or staff, and I trust them completely with my animals. I can't imagine going anywhere else. read more

The clerical staff are all very warm and helpful and are always good about following up and calling to remind clients of appointments. Dr. DeVries has been my veterinarian for my dog since I got her 5 years ago and he always remembers her by name and gives excellent, compassionate care. All of the support staff put both pet and owner at ease with their kind words and gentle handling. Just got back from my first visit to Parkside. I wanted to take my cat in for a checkup and found this place, where else- on Yelp! And I have to say, they deserve 5 stars. I am SO glad I didn't decide to go somewhere else (and I almost did because I thought it would be expensive... only $60 for a checkup). My cat saw Dr. Hotaling and he was awesome. The few concerns I had during the checkup he answered and made sure he checked on my cat and explained every possible thing that could be causing the problems. My boyfriend and I thought he was very caring and even talked about his cats so we could see the love for animals he had. The thing I liked the most about Parkside is that they didn't push me to buy products or to do extra testing. Dr. Hotaling made sure I knew it was my decision if I wanted any of those extras since my cat was pretty healthy. Some vets would have pushed me to get a test done or buy a vitamin that the Dr. did suggest but said was my decision and not completely necessary. This place was definitely what I expected and I hoped it to be. The only minor complaint I had was that I didn't get seen until about 20 minutes after my appointment time, but late in the day at a busy office, this is to be expected. I was still in and out within an hour but didn't feel rushed and thought the exam was thorough. read more

There is a reason why so far every reviewer has given Parkside Vet five stars. The staff is always extremely accommodating and very friendly, I have been to a few different doctors there and have had a great experience with all. In particular, I'd highly recommend Dr. Nina Caires. She has experience and listens well to worried pet owners. She talks to you like a person and doesn't talk down to you, even if you haven't done everything 100% right! She has helped with two sick visits for our animals and now we see her regularly. I can't compare Albany prices, but Parkside Vet has been relatively similar to what I've paid else where. An exam is $60, and of course the fees do add up quickly, especially for a sick pet. I guess I expect a vet visit to be expensive, especially when something is wrong, but that's the price you pay for being committed to your animals. read more

Dr. Devries is the best. Took my cats here for the longest time while i lived in the area. Unfortunately I moved cross country, and the vet wouldn't come with me. Highly caring group of people, and unfortunately for vets in my area, they have a very very high standard to live up to. Still haven't found my permanent vet yet. They've been here through the highs and the lows. They are a little pricey, BUT they won't shove a treatment on you that is needed, or won't help. They'll tell you what they can do, and they'll tell you if (and why) it's necessary. I don't think i'll ever find another vet I like so much. If you want a vet that gives top notch care, and CARES about both you and your pet, then go here. read more

Parkside was recommended to me by a friend who had been taking her dogs here for several years and loved the place. The biggest thing that stands out for me is the great staff who are all extremely friendly and gentle. It's very apparent that each of them genuinely cares about the animals they treat like they are their own. The vets and support staff all handle the animals - and their parents - with kindness and patience. Husband and I took our young cat here because he was beginning to act crazy and we knew it was time for his ceremonial scrotum-snipping. We were a little stressed when they informed us that we had to leave him overnight for the surgery. They were happy to answer all our questions and were very pleasant in explaining their accommodations. When we picked him up the next day, the man who handed him over told us how well he did and even commented on some of his unique personality traits. Although this was clearly a routine procedure for Parkside, they did a great job making it very smooth for both the pet and pet owner. read more

Admittedly, I am a crazy dog lady with impossibly high standards- which is exactly why I choose to bring my dog to Parkside. After having less than spectacular experiences and spending small fortunes to be told things I already knew at another veterinary office, I decided it was time to make the switch. Dr. Hotaling was my late family dog's veterinarian, and the Parkside practice in general was referred to me by a number of people- after my first time, I understood why. Upon entrance, you're welcomed with a friendly greeting by the staff. The waiting area and exam rooms are immaculate, and the wait time is never long. The reception team is so organized and thoughtful, remembering details about you and your pet. The techs are so caring, and treat your animal as if it were their own. Dr. Hotaling is AMAZING, I really can't say enough wonderful things about him- he is everything you want someone taking care of your best friend to be. Going to the vet always used to be something that made both myself and my dog riddled with anxiety. Now when I drop him off for even full day-long appointments, he happily wags off with one of the vet techs. If you want to feel at ease and know that your pet medically is in the best hands possible, bring them to Parkside. read more

If only human physicians were this good. These are best veterinarians in the area. Doctors, assistants and support staff are all deeply compassionate people who keep up to date on current treatments and alternative practices, including acupuncture. One of our cats had a heart problem with an average survival rate of one year from diagnosis. Their care was overwhelmingly responsible in helping it live happily and healthily for another ten years. When he finally passed away, we could not have asked for more sensitive surroundings. Parkside is a little more expensive than most vets in the area, but I would simply not place the care of an animal companion in the hands of any other veterinary service. These people do not merely have jobs, they have a mission they love. read more

Our pooch became really sickened from what we suspect was contaminated dog food. (The serial number on the bag we had matched the numbers listed in a recall of pet food due to possible salmonella contamination.) Without going into too much detail, let's just say our giant boy was a giant mess. Not only was he suffering severe GI distress, but he was also uncharacteristically listless. After a couple days, it got worse and my boyfriend called me frantically at work. This being the closest vet, he took him here. The vet was very sweet as she sedated him and took X-rays. Also, the SO points out that she was quite easy on the eyes. While she wasn't able to completely diagnose the issue due to a lack of, er, a "sample," the antibiotics she prescribed had Junot back to his regular self within the week. Her advice to feed him nothing but rice, boiled poultry and other basic, bland foods for awhile also seemed to do the trick. read more

Thank you Dr. Hotaling and all the staff at Parkside Vet!! I adopted a new dog a few weeks ago, and we found that she badly needed surgery for her tail. I was very happy with Dr. Hotaling's care for my new pup. An hour after her surgery, he gave me a call and told me how she was doing. I got a little freaked out when he told me that they needed to keep her overnight, but I gave them the OK anyway. (Also, kudos for feeding her Wellness!) Weeks later... my dog has been healing nicely after hitting many rough patches. The vets and staff here have been all supportive and compassionate, and I'm thankful to them for being there during every step in my dog's recovery. My kitty had a kidney stone/bladders blockage. I was working 80+ hours a week. I had multiple cats at the time so I didn't recognize his symptoms immediately. I called in the middle of the night. I was here recently for my FELV cat Toby to be examined and later neutered. They are somewhat busy, especially now due to COVID-19, but the staff is always very understanding and helpful. They seem to suffer from high turnover rates but otherwise their service is really good. My cats are especially fond of Dr. Schnee. He truly loves and cares for his patients. Since my initial review we adopted a second dog and two kittens. Dr. Hotaling and the staff at Parkside have been wonderful about absolutely everything. Dr. H. is open-minded and respectful of the fact that we feed the dogs a raw diet. He's thoughtful in his approach and we trust him implicitly. The front desk staff and the vet techs are great, they seem to love what they do, despite the fact that it's not all puppy kisses (although I'm sure puppy kisses make up for the less glamorous aspects of their jobs!). Wouldn't it be great if we all loved our physicians as much as our vets? It makes me happy to see all the love on here for Parkside, it's a wonderful clinic. read more

My dog has been a patient here for a few years and no major complaints. However, I was recently quoted "$1000, maybe more" for a dental cleaning with possible tooth extractions. I thought that was outrageous so I got a second opinion at Oakwood vet clinic in Troy. The quote there was $300-350 for the same exact procedures. I had the work done at Oakwood a week ago and was charged $350 for the teeth cleaning and six tooth extractions. My dachshund's teeth look great, he healed well, and I saved at least $700! I love my dog and would pay whatever it takes to keep him healthy, but Parkside seems like a bit of a rip off in my opinion. read more

I really find that the practice has changed dramatically. Receptionists and techs are wonderful, the vets are all very young, arrogant, and don't read the full medical file. I have switched from this hospital after so many pets that my family have enjoyed. In general, the practice simply isn't the same. read more

We had our two siamese kittens altered here yesterday. Front desk staff were friendly and cheerful. Dr. Hotaling gave each kitten a thorough exam and explained the kittens' conditions, how the procedure would work, etc. He called around noon to tell us that the procedures went very well and that the kittens were fine. We brought them home in great health, fully recovered from the anesthesia and with good appetites. The entire staff is friendly, upbeat and the atmosphere is very upbeat. I took my cat here for his first visit to a vet, at the recommendation of friends, when he stopped using the litter box and began acting really odd. They gave me some advice on the phone, which led me to bring him in - and then I was amazed at how quickly they saw him when we arrived (considering I'd made the appointment a half hour earlier). Everyone there was so kind and genuinely concerned with my cat's well being, and I was particularly impressed with how calm he remained through the exam. I think the constant stroking and firm hold of the vet tech made a big impact on making him less stressed. I got the lab results quickly, which was a relief because he was healthy after all. AMAZING! Thanks to Yelp, I chose this Vet for my ailing dog and I was beyond thrilled with everyone at Parkside. Dr. Rachel Lapos was the most caring, helpful doctor I've encountered in a while. After discovering some bad news with my dog, she (accurately) thought there was another underlying issue which she thought she recognized by using only using her stethoscope and hands (which was later confirmed by a sonogram). She also made 2 follow up calls before and after my dog saw a specialist, to see how my dog was doing. While my dog had to be put down due to her medical ailments, I will be getting a new pet and will never go to another vet while living in or near the city of Albany! read more

I had my sons dogs files sent to them for their review to see if they would accept her on as a Chemotherapy patient. We had also had her records to Cornell University and Tufts University for their review. They told me they would call me back in a few days. Well that same night they called and set up an appointment. I am over the moon. The next day I get a call from Tufts University and they want us to bring her in in two days. I make the appointment but ask Tufts what the difference would be and after our conversation they say if we can get treatment close to home we should do it as it will be less stressful. I talk with Parkside at least once a day for the next two days with them telling me we need to come in for a consultation and if appropriate they would start Chemotherapy right away. Again over the moon as we can tell the dog is not doing well and we want to do everything we can. After three days I get a call after hours (6:30pm) to tell me they changed their minds and her case is too involved. Well now we have missed out on the opportunity to get her into Tufts ASAP. It will be a whole week because we canceled and they filled our appointments. Now I sit on my hallway floor watching as she refuses to eat, has a seizure, goes into a deep sleep, with heavy breathing. I am so afraid my son is going to lose his baby he got when he was 17 and she was 12 weeks. They have been together through his growing and maturing for 7 short years. Please Parkside do a thorough review before offering what may save a life of a beloved pet and then ripping the rug out from under... read more

They always have openings but it can take an hour or so to actually leave due to the long wait time. I will say that they charged me an annual exam fee ($98) every time I took my puppy in for a booster and insisted on only giving one shot per visit to drain my wallet dry. Plus they charged an extra $250 on top of my $100 spay voucher from Friends of Animals which actually covers the procedure entirely. Decent vets with hidden fees and angles. read more

Everyone who works here are amazing. They are they kindest, most well informed, and knowledgeable group of people with endless compassion. Every vet we have met with has been terrific both with our beloved pets, and with us as they always explain options, risks, budgets etc. Last night they fit us in last minute for our ailing 17 yr old cat. Dr. Hotaling was so compassionate and empathetic. We had to make a very heartbreaking choice. Dr. Hotaling and the rest of the staff explained every step, allowed me to be with my cat comforting and loving him through it all and was so kind and respectful to my cat. We left heartbroken, but comforted knowing that they did all that could be done, and that he left the world without pain.
