I brought my two senior cats in for bloodwork and an exam. One cat was then diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and put on meds when the bloodwork showed an elevated thyroid level. I then received a call that the bloodwork "may have been mixed up" so bring my one cat back in for a free retest. This test indicated a low thyroid level and was significantly different from the first test with an elevated level. Instead of a vet looking at the 2 bloodtests and seeing they were so different and most likely not my cats bloodwork . I'm contacted by the vet techs and told to continue on the thyroid meds. One vet tech was not aware there was a blood test mix up and one told me when I asked why it seemed like the 2nd test was so different that it was not my cats bloodwork answered me by saying" That's a good question". Then I wonder was my other senior cat bloodtest mixed up as they were done at the same time? Meanwhile I spent $100 on thyroid meds and $520.38 on bloodwork and I still dont know if my cat has hyperthyroidism. because the new bloodwork does not show it. I was offered after complaining another free retest after taking my cats off the meds but honestly I have a very stressed old cat who has already been in for 3 blood tests and a vets office that I'm dealing with techs not the vet. I plan on going elsewhere where I can deal with a vet that can call me, and actually take the time to look at the bloodwork read more

Like most vets these guys have a really booked schedule right now, which is fine until you have a medical emergency for a new pet. Two weeks before her first appointment at our regular vet, my puppy got a UTI and I could not find anywhere to get her an appointment. The staff at The Animal Hospital were the only ones who even tried to work with me, making it clear that they would have to get lucky to fit my dog in but they'd try. Thankfully for the puppy, they had a cancellation and were able to see her that day & within a day she's already feeling so much better. The staff was so wonderful and helpful, we'll definitely be back. It would have been really easy for these guys to turn me away, most other vets did. But my puppy and I are incredibly grateful they helped us. read more

We have been to the animal hospital several times. Once with our cat a few years ago, another time with a relative who was visiting with their dog, and again with our newly adopted cats. The Animal Hospital is set back on a nice property. Very easy to find, easy to park. There are trails out back to take your dog if you need. The reception area is comfortable and the reception staff has been helpful. The vets and techs have all been friendly and helpful. With our first cat, who unfortunately did not make it, we felt that the diagnosis and care was reasonable, since costs can skyrocket quickly when you have a pet that is quite ill. The staff is able to give me cost estimates before I come in so that I know what to expect (e.g. cutting nails, chipping, general exam, etc). We will continue to come back here as we have had good experiences each time. read more

We just moved to Albany and were in search of a good vet. I had been taking my dog to Banfield in Petsmart for a while in WA and not super happy, so I decided to hunt for a locally based operation. My mother-in-law just got a puppy and brings him here so I decided to give them a try. Making an appointment was quite easy and they had appointments available within about a week. I wasn't in any rush so I went with whatever was convenient for them. Finding the place may be a bit tricky at first since it's tucked away in what feels like a residential area, but it's quite easy if you the follow the signs. I used the GPS on my phone and had no problems finding it, especially since the street signs around have "Animal Hospital" on top of them. When we drove into the parking lot it was almost something out of a movie. There were 2 deer in the grass eating breakfast, geese in the grass, and turkeys sitting on fence posts. The grounds were extremely well kept and the building for the hospital is a brown building sitting back a way. Upon arrival, we found an extremely friendly staff. They chatted with us for a while and took a picture of my dog (which I later saw on her computer file). They were knowledgeable about what was going on and helpful. Then we met with our vet, Melinda. She was running about 5 minutes behind and was extremely apologetic about it and explained it was due to a surgery. Really though, I've waited much longer at other vets with no apology. Once we were called back to a room she was in there within a few minutes - none of that long wait in a room wondering if they forgot about you. The exam was thorough and up front. My dog has a very slight heart murmur that most vets don't even pick up, but she was able to and explained fully all the things that could happen, but was assuring it was minor. She was upfront about what vaccinations were important in this are and which ones were not. She asked lots of questions and it really felt like she was trying to get to know both me and my dog. Toward the end of the appointment, since it was my first time here, we discussed what time of year was best for different shots and how to get them synced up since my dogs vaccinations always end up coming due months apart, ending up with us going to the vet 2-4 times a year just for shots. Oh and they gave her a nail trim for free, which they told me they do pretty much anytime the dog comes in for something. Upon checkout, their prices were extremely fair. The staff was once again friendly and made sure I made my follow-up appointment in a few weeks. They informed me, just in case, that they associate with a 24-hour vet clinic in Latham and gave me all their information for after hours or weekend emergency needs. Overall, I was extremely pleased with this vet and will probably continue going to them as long as I live within a reasonable driving distance. Heck, I will probably continue using them even if I live a bit further than what is reasonable. If you're in the Albany area, I highly suggest you check this vet out. read more

My family has been taking our pets here for about 15 years now and we always have a positive experience. They are kind, caring and go out of their way to help you and your pet. This weekend I was visiting some new groomers with my dog and realized I would need a record of her vaccinations if I wanted to make an appointment with one of them. So, I called The Animal Hospital expecting to leave a message since they are closed on Sunday. One of the staff answered the phone, though and said she was just there catching up on some things and would leave it in the drop box for me. This is the place to take your pet, especially if they have complex medical issues. I took in a cat who was hit by a car with a ruptured eye socket, fractured maxillary sinus and broken jaw. My vet refused to even lay eyes on the cat after we were discharged from Upstate Vet ER. They recommended this place and Dr. Lexi was very confident in treating the cat who made a great recovery. I also take my geriatric cat here with pancreatitis and diabetes. They are really great at taking care of the emotional needs of my old cat who is really frightened of vet visits. They solved my dogs stomach problem in one visit where the previous vet had been routinely putting her on antibiotics without figuring out the issue. Update: We ended up speaking with the business owner who addressed the major issues with how we and the animal were treated. It is very important that everyone realize that in NYS any type of animal that exists in the wild, NYS has actual laws against individuals having them and regulates veterinarians that animals that are deemed unreleasable are euthanized. It is exceedingly important that issues without obvious outcomes requiring euthanasia be referred to Upstate Wildlife rehabilitation FIRST. And that the animal goes to the vet with your knowledge that certain issues ensure euthanasia. DO NOT BRING ANY TYPE OF ALSO WILD SPECIES HERE. THEY EUTHANIZE NON RELEASABLE ANIMALS!! Made the mistake of having my husband take a disabled squirrel that my son had saved as a baby, and which we'd had for a year, here because we could not reach a rehabber and thought that he needed immediate treatment for an issue. They told my husband that they would treat him and then he would be released to a rehabber. I actually was waiting to hear back from a rehabber that worked with squirrels and was willing to take him. LATER THAT DAY THEY THEN CALLED ME TO TELL ME THAT THEY ALREADY EUTHANIZED HIM HAVING GIVEN NO TREATMENT BECAUSE HE WAS NOT RELEASABLE. HE WASN'T RELEASABLE BEFORE WE BROUGHT HIM IN!! Update from my son " During the covid lockdowns I found a baby squirrel that had gotten hurt. Because of his injury he couldn't run straight and had been starving and was blind. When we brought him home he had to quarantine just like people do when they are sick. With good food and lots of water his vision came back. Mom said that once he could run straight he would have to go outside and if he didn't we'd take him to a santuary in PA that's like a school where you learn about animals. But I loved the squirrel and talked to him and made sure he had his favorite hazelnut. He liked to sleep and loved the blanket I gave him. I saw he had a problem with his pee spot and told mom. She said he had to go to the vet. My Daddy took him and I packed his favorite food and snacks. The said they were going to treat him. My Dad said he'd pay whatever it cost for the treatment. Instead the vet killed him. They did not even let me say goodbye. I wish they could go to jail. You should not kill people's lives ones and not let them say goodbye. Since they won't go to jail I hope they have something taken away and not get to say goodbye then maybe they wouldn't do this. People who don't care about animals or people shouldn't pretend to want to help them." read more

I absolutely love this place! The staff isn't just super friendly, but you can tell that they really love their job as well as the animals that come in. I personally use Dr. Lexi Becker and she has been really fantastic me and my "herd". She really goes above and beyond to answer questions, research treatment options, and explain things in a way you can understand. She is also extremely sympathetic and caring, as is her staff and the rest of the Doctors here. It isn't just a job here, they are truly in it for the animals. My husband and I live in New York City and after some fairly extensive research, many phone calls and a tour of The Animal Hospital, the decision to have our 7 month old darling cockapoo, Nola, laparoscopically spayed there was an easy one. Dr. Ed Becker met us on our initial visit and took the time to sweetly greet our girl, explain the procedure and technology, show us his amazing facility and answered all of our questions...on a Saturday. Easily the most professional and caring veterinary staff we've ever encountered. Dr. Ed's daughter, Dr. Lexi Becker, performed the procedure last week and Nola could not have been more cared for if I knew how to do the procedure myself. The staff, facilities, communication, pre-op process, post-op care, etc., etc., etc. was all nothing short of outstanding. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Lexi Becker and her staff. The Animal Hospital is truly a caring facility and they know their craft extremely well. Our visit to the Animal Hospital came after a visit with another vet. My mom who has fed a stray neighborhood cat for years noticed he was really skinny and wasn't doing well in the Spring so brought him to her local vet in East Greenbush. They diagnosed Midnight (we named him even though he was an outdoor, neighborhood stray cat) as needing some special diet and he didn't have worms. Well a couple of months later when I stopped by toward the end of the summer, by the looks of the Midnight I couldn't even believe he was alive. Truly a bag of bones who was literally in-hailing his food and would come back an hour later for more. Something was seriously wrong so I asked a friend who rescues dogs for a vet recommendation and that's how we came to see Dr. Lexi Becker. I'm very thankful for the recommendation and for the Animal Hospital. First the facility looks like a place you'd find in the Adirondacks and and sits on lovely acreage. The inside is warm and comforting. While we were waiting we noticed several scrap type books filled with notes of gratitude and after our experience I understand why they receive so many wonderful notes. And while we were there we met a couple who has moved a distance away but continues to come to the Animal Hospital because their dog loves the place. All of the staff were wonderful from Debbie who worked with me to make the appointment right through to the technicians who handled our case along with Dr. Becker. Dr. Becker did the blood work right away and had us wait for the results while we were on site. When she brought us back into the exam room, she explained Midnight had diabetes and would need two shots of insulin a day. My mother and I looked at each other knowing for a variety of different reasons we would not be able to take care of Midnight. It was like a dream when Dr. Becker said 'don't worry, we'll keep Midnight here' and adopt him out. My mother was so happy Midnight was going to have a good life for his remaining years she almost cried. Earlier this week I got a message asking me to fax a note signing over authorization of Midnight to the Animal Hospital so he could be adopted out. I was so HAPPY! But, then I got a call a day later to call the hospital. Sadly Midnight had taken a turn for the worse and Dr. Becker explained in the kindest way possible that the best thing was for Midnight to be put down. I understood and did not want Midnight to be in pain so I gave her permission to put him to sleep. I unfortunately was out of town and my mom was too upset to be there. For the short time Midnight was getting the proper medicine along with care from the Animal Hospital family, I am truly thankful. The staff treated him so very well. For a cat who had to battle other outdoor creatures his whole life I'm so glad he had a safe place his last few weeks. My sphynx and I used to see Jackie at parkside on Morton Ave, but Jackie moved to this hospital about 5 or so years ago and we followed her here. I'm very specific about which vet sees my baby (it's always Jackie!!) and the staff is always accommodating and friendly about it. I had foster kittens for a while and saw a different vet with them because Jackie was on vacation, but every vet I've seen there has been top-notch. I currently live in Chicago, but bring my cat back to NY once a year for a vet visit to make sure everything is alright with him. Jackie ALWAYS makes time to call me if I think something is going wrong with my cat, even from her cell phone. She emails me, consults with me, she's really understanding, compassionate, and just all at around perfect. I can't believe how many times she's fit me in during her lunch time and how good she is with my temperamental cat who doesn't like anyone but me. read more

I am so relieved our two dogs are now in the care of the staff and doctors at The Animal Hospital. After becoming increasingly dissatisfied with our old vet we brought our pups here. During their very first visit we learned about some major issues our old vet had misdiagnosed- one a chronic infection in our pug, the other a cancerous growth on our puggle. As awful as it was to find these things out, the fact that they were recognized and addressed within minutes during our very first visit gave me peace of mind that despite having issues our dogs were in the best of hands. The fact that they could take a biopsy from our puggle and immediately take a look and diagnose his cancer on site was impressive. And, now that we have had his surgery to remove that growth as well as one they found when trimming him down for the procedure, I am even more impressed with the facility, the doctors, and the staff. Our puggle came home from what could have been a traumatizing and terrifying experience no worse for the wear and was clearly well loved and cared for before, during, and after his surgery. Not only is the staff wonderful, the setting and the facility are calming and serene. Moving our dogs to the care of The Animal Hospital is the best decision we have ever made for them. read more
