I requested my barber specifically for a 1 & 2 fade and keeping the middle part long. Instead, she gave me a bowl cut in the back and below the bowl, everything was a pretty much a 1 shave. She also shaved the sides of my head way too high. Again, there was absolutely no fade and in all aspects. This job was incredibly choppy. I had to go to another local barber and pay $30 more dollars to get it fixed. He also pulled strings of hair by my ears, as it was left unshaven. I asked for a refund weeks ago. At first, she was nice about it. She gave me the option of getting my refund once she returns to the UIC salon (she works independently in other locations). She said she'd text me on her cell phone to let me know. Unfortunately, after 2/3 weeks she still hasn't reached back and I've texted her few times as a reminder. Poor quality/Poor Service

To summarize my review: Maria is amazing!…read more I've been searching for the perfect barber (low price, high skill, nice person, doesn't talk too much, doesn't talk too little) and I found it with Maria. She is simply fantastic. She has a high level of communication, always checking in with you before she does something. And $12 for a haircut is a very decent price! On top of it all, she is really, really good at what she does. She always cuts my hair perfectly. Usually there isn't a wait, but I do recommend calling ahead to get a reservation. She does three cuts an hour - at the top of the hour, 20 minutes after and twenty minutes to. Also, because she's located on the UIC West Campus, her downtown is when school is not in session, so if it's the winter break or summer break, etc. it's best to call ahead to make sure she's in. They have four chairs set up, but I have only seen Maria cutting hair there - and to be honest, if someone else came in, I'm not sure I'd abandon Maria. Sure the shop itself doesn't have the most modern decor. In fact, it looks kind of run-down. And the fact that you have to find it in the basement makes it kind of an adventure. But these negatives aside, she's worth it. Also, bring cash - she doesn't take credit cards. My search for a barber is over and I'm so glad I found out about Maria.

She said she knew what to do and that she would be able to give me straight hair for 3 months and I would only need to come in to touch up the roots after the treatment. When I got in the seat she put the Keratin product in my hair and flat ironed right over the product, causing sizzling and smoke. I was asking her questions because I knew something didn't seem right because how can frying someone's hair be a way of making it more healthy? I thought she knew what she was doing so I let her continue and it looked great when she finished. Today I washed my hair and it is completely fried and damaged, I have burns in my scalp with puss. I highly recommend you don't go here for any treatment. Save your time and your money.
