Their clothing selection is excellent; you'll find the best US and international clothing brands in their racks. Nearly every piece is in excellent or like new condition, and there are even items that are new with tags or new backstock from a local online children's clothier. Village Kids also is a local Matilda Jane mecca and sells new boutique hair bows and clips. Prices are generally higher than other consignment or resale shops, but you get what you pay for in quality and condition. Many of the pieces could definitely be re-consigned after being gently worn by your child. Each day, one particular color tag is 25% off and the store hosts periodic sales through the year. Village Kids' staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The consignment process is straightforward and pretty easy. Just be sure to be incredibly careful in preparing your clothing for inspection; these ladies are awfully discerning and meticulous. Unlike other shops, they will go through your items in your presence and offer you insight into the reasons they pass on particular items. I'll write an additional review after my consignment period is over and I can judge the results! Pros- I found Catimini, Eliane et Lena, & Oililly clothing without going online! Lovely variety of girls' styles from pinkalicious girly girl to funky hip chick. Cons- Items to consign must be near perfect. That's precisely what happened when I purchased a Tombolini suit from AK Rikk's in early September. I paid dimes on the dollar, but got a remarkable product shipped to me (for free --- and in a valet-sized boxed; I mean, the suit was literally hanging from a makeshift mailable wardrobe). AK Rikk's is expensive (even when it's discounted), but it is a rare jewel in a world of cut-glass-fast-fashion-fakes, and one of the few vibrant retail clothing palaces that still exist in this world of dead malls and Ebay deadstocks. If you can't get to AK Rikk's in person (as I couldn't), check them out on YouTube. This is the first thing I've purchased from them (on their website), and I don't know if there will be anything else from them in my future, but it's a Wilkes-Bashford, Mitchell's, Bergdorf-Goodman, Neiman Marcus level shopping experience from start to finish. It's north of Paul Stuart (price-wise), but that "north" extends all the way to Heaven (experientially).

Prices seem pretty good, especially because they have random sales, promotions, and even clearance sections. This is especially true for their clothing and shoe departments. I like them so much that I have three of them. I was excited to find this location and went inside to see what new outer wear they had to offer as all of my coats are over 10 years old. I was immediately greeted by at least two salespeople who pointed me in the right direction as to what I was looking for. This location offers clothing, outer wear, accessories and footwear for men, women and children. I wish that they offered more for men though. A few minutes later I discovered that not only was I being watched by a guy in a button up shirt and jeans but, he was following me around the store. NOT ALL BLACK PEOPLE STEAL! I do not steal nor have I ever stolen anything in my life! And to think I was going to buy my daughter a new jacket for school. I have never experienced this in any other The North Face store or The North Face outlet store. So I looked around the store a little more, told the salespeople to have a nice day and left.

I've seen better at other local thrift stores, albeit perhaps one star. Grand Rapids' thrift scene is very basic. Whether it's that parishioners are donating used goods to their in-church ventures (as I've seen at a local faith based retirement home) or everything is used until it's used up, GR seems to be a hard market for fun thrift shopping. (Note: if you've seen this comment before, it's because I spent the morning hitting all the thrift stores in succession, and all of them were wanting of a good dose of donations, inspiration, and organizational pizzazz.)
