Costambar is probably my favorite spot for some good Dominican home-cooking. I've coming here for years and they have always been consistent in the quality, freshness and taste of the food they serve. They have great breakfast and lunch specials at a good price and a nice separate and spacious dining room area if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal. FYI: most workers are spanish-speaking mostly.

A feast for the eyes and tastebuds.

This is the 2nd Costambar restaurant that my wife and I visited within the last 4 days. This locale is bigger than the one at 18th Street in Paterson. Much more choices but just as amazingly delicious. My wife got Fried Pork Chops with onions and yellow rice. I got Pig's feet with Black bean rice. We had a side order of Chicharron (Pork Cracklings) and Avocado salad. For drinks she got a Merengue (Cola Champgane) soda and I got me a Morir Soñando (Orange Creamsicle). Everything, and I mean everything is cooked to perfection, flavorful and plenty. Out servers Susanna and Arlenis provided us excellent service with a smile.

Beef stew w/ carrots over arroz con gandules. Bistec w/ peppers, maduros, over black rice & black beans. Maduros & Dominican lasagna.

This spot was worth the drive from Nutley! The food was cooked with love and flavor despite us being in quarantine. 10/10 for me you won't be disappointed with their options of food and how it tastes. Paterson really has some great food gems here.

Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, other meat, and pasta, easily available for take out. (11/27/2017)

Costambar is a series of restaurants in Paterson offering homestyle Dominican food and comfort food that brings its patrons back for more! There's 3 locations of Costambar in Paterson, one in the western side of town (9th Ave x E18th Street), a bar/lounge in the middle of the city (Madison Ave x Ellison Place), and this location (Market St x Straight St), and from the buzz and love, most people prefer this one. Also, seasonally (as in Christmas time, or Thanksgiving), they can cook turkeys or do a roast suckling too, so ask and do your appointments, since those are on popular demand. This restaurant doubles as a quick, fast food style, "pick what you want" on one side/main entrance with standing room and chairs at the corner, and the other part, there's a conventional restaurant setting: round tables, chairs and tables, plus booths. In terms of food, Costambar offers just about anything Dominicans, other Hispanics/Latino/Latinas, and everyone else wishing to try something new, would be familiar with. Salads (simple, macaroni, seafood), steaks and chicken (like stew chicken, breaded pork chops, steaks), seafood (shrimp, breaded flounder, snapper, shellfish, lobster, paella from Valencia in Spain), barbecue (steaks and pork, to quick bites), even mofongo. It's rather unfortunate that there's next to nothing for me, vegetarian, aside from the usual salad, rice + beans, French fries, or Yucca, but it'll do, and it's surprisingly well done. Their freshly made fruit juices can range from too sweet, tart, or refreshing. Their food is affordable and easy for most consumers to enjoy. Costambar doesn't allow for deliveries, so takeout is possible, and you're free to pay with credit/debit card, but if you're so inclined, there's an ATM immediately outside the business. Since it's such a popular business, there's the habit of other people making a bottleneck along that section of Market St, usually by double parking, obstructing the street, try not to emulate this, and it's difficult enough since most spots are occupied. Plus, it's close by to the train station in downtown, if you've wanted something to eat before/after going there.

This place is our go to spot for some good Dominican food. Granted the staff can be more attentive and less rude but the food work for itself. The verity of options are great and a quick turnaround on food. The pollo guidsado with rice and beans is the go to favorite. Plenty of seating right next door. Always stick with the lunch combos which is plenty of food. The soups are also very fresh and not full of salt like other places. Have not tried the deserts but hopefully down the line. In Paterson there are many options to get Latin food big for me this has to be the. Also parking can be tough to find in the afternoon.

The food here not only looks good. It was delicious. An amazing restaurant, with a real taste of Dominican cooking. So many options that you will not know what to chose.

Mondongo with white rice... Maduros on the side as dessert.

This place is always on point... The Mondongo is sooo tasty. Amongst other Dominican classics like Sancocho, arroz con abichuelas. And I know soda is bad for you but as we Latin people say "una al año no hace daño" the country club merengue soda or raspberry soda yummmmm.... I would so recommend costambar. Also It is so reasonable for the portions you get...

Lechon, yellow rice, red beans and side of okra. All yummy.

I had that "Jersey Meat" (Taylor ham or pork roll, whatever you call it) egg and cheese but I'm happy I listened to the owner here and also got the Chopped Cheese. This breakfast sandwich was stellar but the Chopped Cheese was very possibly the best one I've ever had. The Jersey meat had a hard sear to it, which I love. Plenty of meat, cheese, and eggs on a fresh hard (Kaiser) roll. I got it with just pepper. Jersey meat is salty enough on its own and I typically don't rock ketchup with eggs. This would have been awesome with a splash of hot sauce though. Great sandwich. The chopped cheese was the hero here though. This was on a fresh jersey long roll and the seasoning in the meat was fantastic. Best seasoned ground beef I've probably ever had for a chopped cheese. Plenty of cheese, the roll, and the toppings were all very complimentary. The sauce is great on this as well. I got that extra drizzle overtop and I'm pumped I did. I had a side of it as well and trust me, I used it. Do not pass on this sandwich if you come here. The owner here is awesome, the food is great, plenty of parking on the streets around the business in a residential area, and the price is right. Salt Pepper Ketchup - Didn't Suck!
