My family and I have been coming here for eternity and love it. It is consistently fresh and delicious food and huge portions. Whenever we have a big seafood craving we drive up here to get our fix. My favorite plates are the Jalea - battered seafood galore! It is a huge mountain of food and excellent for sharing. It is a better bang for your buck than the calamari at the same price. The paella de mariscos is ALWAYS delicious. I tend to split this with someone always and it still gives us leftovers! Camarones alajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce), they are less oily and more creamy, but make sure to save some of the bread to dip in this sauce - so yummy! We have ordered other items like the bistec a lo pobre, which has been solid for my mother that does not like seafood. She also likes the chicharron de pollo, fried bite sized portions of chicken. The portions are similarly to many Latin American restaurants, large and good for sharing. So when you see that some of the prices are a bit higher than other places, do not worry - you are getting your money's worth. A word of advice is that the parking around here sucks - like a lot. So make sure to come mentally prepared for that if you are coming to eat at peak times on the weekend. Also, this place gets packed quickly and there could easily be a wait time if you have a large party on the weekend. The best times to come are for a late lunch or early dinner. This is an Ecuadorian/Peruvian restaurant so when I ordered the Lomo Saltado I was expecting the traditional Peruvian way, but it was not. It had the thin fries and the seasoning was different, it wasn't bad it was just different. However, they serve big portions my boyfriend and I were unable to fish our dishes. It was just okay. I usually go to an Ecuadorian restaurant in Newark but since I was visiting friends we decided to go here because it was the closest. The service was abysmal, waited forever just to order drinks. Our server seemed to forget about us frequently. We ordered margaritas and ended up sending them back because of how badly they were mixed. The food was good, the best thing in my opinion was the steak. The avocado salad is also AMAZING. I always order that extra because it cannot be a side included with the food. Their food is good and they bring out the food in a timely manner. I must admit that I am a fan of this in the cut spot in Passaic! I had come here years ago and had totally forgotten about this place until I was craving some good solid Spanish food and came across this place in my search! Mask must be worn and they have a small area you could sit if you are waiting for your food but I recommend calling the order in and picking up. The following 3 factors really scare customers away: - Food quality and portions has completely change especially seafood. -Policy to cross out tips options when paying with credit or debit card to encourage cash tips terrible. -Minimum credit card charge $15 when you run a lunch especial of $8 bucks really crazy policy. I have them a second chance. This type of mentality to run a business is the most millennial unfriendly I've seen and honestly money has become a digital currency; so please make sure you check these three factors listed above before going in there since they don't have a sign up warning people about it. This one is for the brave ones...with cars. Sometimes someone recommends a place for to you to eat. It's authentic, delicious, and extremely inexpensive, but it's not in any major city or easy to get to by public transportation. You wonder if it's worth the trip, but have a feeling in your stomach that once you get there, it's damn well worth it. Venus fits the bill. A no nonsense authentic Hispanic restaurant, Venus provides huge portions enough to share with friends and family (I recommend the rice and crab legs, see photo). It may look like it's in a dicey area, but believe me everyone there comes to sit, relax, eat, and relax some more...you get the itis (look it up on Wikipedia) after a few spoonfuls. And make sure to wash it down with Latin American soda like Manzania or Tropical. Much better than anything Pepsi or Coke can come up with. read more

Here's a list of my MUST HAVES: Their Ceviche (any style you prefer) Paella The Bistec a lo probre The avocado salad (perfect addition to a meal) AND so are the fried yuca sticks. The seafood is fresh & fantastic everything just perfect in every way I could imagine. This place is my childhood wrapped up in s Resturant style bow. She speaks Spanish so language was no longer an issue. It's a spot that you wouldn't think about taking someone on a date to because of the ambience. The food made up for that though. We had a pitcher of Sangria, I ordered the skirt steak with fried green plantains, she ordered the fried rice with beef pork and shrimp with avocado salad. That's a huge portion, so we split the food. We both cleared our plates and washed it down with Sangria. It was great, service was good too. There wasn't a wait and it wasn't too pricey. The place is more like a mom and pop style Resturant . The place is not fancy however it's clean. I went on a late Tuesday night so I didn't have to wait long for a table - Their servers are very attentive. They don't sell alcohol so no cold coronas with your meal. They do have sodas ,water ( if u ask for it ) , juices . However , I believe the place is BYOB . My dish was pretty large , called "el pobre " Which comes with French fries , two fried eggs over white rice , tomato & lettuce and nice large slice of steak . In addition , they place on the table a yellow sauce ( which I put on my steak ) The yellow sauce taste really good if you love spicy sauce( this wasn't too spicy ) - to me it seem it had cilantro , green pepper , jalapeño , onion and some other stuff I can't tell however it's a nice sauce I even used it to dip my French fries hahah ( I love spicy stuff ) The white rice was so fresh & good The meat had so much flavor, moist and not dry The French fries were crispy and not oily And they have nice portion of flan and other deserts Over all the food and the service is great but not for a first date. read more

I came here with a HUGE group for a birthday celebration. We were rolling about 15 people deep and Venus Bar did their best to accommodate us all- so thank you! It was clear they were intimidated by such a big group (they were given a heads up since they don't take reservations) but they made it work and put us right in the middle of the dining area. We were a damn spectacle. The bar was a perfect spot to wait for a table to open up and the bartender made a pretty good margarita. I had 2 (regular and passion fruit) and they were both tasty and strong and one was even served in a traditional margarita glass (haha). It was clear, however, that the bar caters mostly to beer and shot drinkers not so much cocktail connoisseurs but again: they made it happen, and with a smile. In Spanglish (my native language). Once we were seated the birthday girl ordered a ton of dishes for the table to share and pass around. There was ceviche (in different styles), yuca fries, rice, octopus salad, fried pork- a ton of food! But I wasn't impressed with the quality or taste of anything except the octopus salad which had some pretty tender octopus but very little of it. The yuca fries were tasty (as most fried things are) but lacked the fibrous yuca quality I've come to expect of natural yuca fries. Overall I was underwhelmed by the taste of the food. I've had some pretty amazing ceviches in my lifetime but not even comparing these ceviches to those, they still fell short. The food, however, does come in ginormous portions so even if it is $20 a plate it can potentially feed three people (or fill me up after a big workout, or on any given lazy Sunday). And after stuffing our faces we each were only left with a $15 burden which astonished all of us who fear birthday dinners that result in paying $60 regardless of how much, or little, you ate. Would I return here? Probably not. It's out of reach for me and I was underwhelmed by the food. I also sort of wish they were BYOB only then would I consider the trek to Passaic. read more

It never disappoints, always perfect. Another good factor is that it's always crowded and is very family-friendly as well. We ordered Ceviche Mixto Peruano with yucca fries and green spicy sauce. The plates are generously portioned, in marinating lime juice and red onions. Another delicious dish is Sudado de Mixto de Mariscos, a mixed seafood stew with fried green plaintains. The service is quick, great prices, it has a very attentive staff, and overall, it's definitely a great place to enjoy good food with friends and family. My uncle ordered Pargo al Ajillo, a whole fried fish, smothered in a yellow Bell Pepper sauce. We also enjoyed a Mariachi band that was playing live. My wife and I had: -rice -lentils -fried fish filet -hen soup -avocado salad -fried yuca -lemonade The yuca is that breaded yuca steak fry business...it's good but not real splintered yuca that's been fried. Because they are so busy on Sundays with church crowd, the service is a bit slow but so worth it. They give you big portions enough to eat and take home and the price is reasonable. So this place is all about the Ecuadorian food. I've had the seafood rice and can say it is OK but I don't think the seafood is all that great, likely frozen. It does have a lot of variety though with shrimp, clams, squid and crab meat. What this gringo loves is the fonesca. This is a fish soup that is rich and delicious full of beans, a big piece of corn on the cob and salted cod. It may not sound that great but I'll tell you that this is comfort food Ecuadorian style.
