I've often visited Party City in the past for party supplies, costumes and other things I've needed. Some years back, I threw my daughter a Spa Party for her birthday and I remember getting everything I needed from here without issue. Of course that was years ago and at the time, they were located somewhere else on Route 22... I think it was Union or Springfield. Now they're in Kenilworth. A much bigger location so I would expect more in terms of party supplies and service but to be fair, my rating is simply based on my experience yesterday with zero expectations except at the bare minimum what any store would offer. I was there with my future daughter-in-law's mother. We were planning a bridal shower for the bride to be and were pretty set on what we needed for the shower and hoped for a bit more. I ordered a lot of things on Amazon but the Bride's mother suggested we try Party City for a bit of inspiration. I was disappointed to say the least. It appears they didn't have much of anything. It was bad enough that their supplies are limited in terms of offering variety but the worst part was many of their shelves were empty! Frustrated to go from aisle to aisle looking for items we wanted, only to find they weren't even stocked! I asked an associate about more stock in the back...I was told they didn't have any. I went to the Dollar Tree afterwards and found MANY of the items on my list and of course for a dollar! The items I did find at Party City were just plain overpriced. It's not that I don't recommend Party City. I recommend ordering online and visiting other stores before you come here as this store should be an absolute last resort. read more

The customer service here is terrible. My son has career day tomorrow and wants to go dressed as a ninja. I called the store to ask if they had any ninja costumes and was rudely told that Halloween has passed and they don't carry any costumes. I hung up and checked online and their website stated they had 6 ninja costumes in my son's size in stock. I get to the store and at first looked for the costume myself. There were plenty of other costumes but I couldn't find the ninja costume so I asked an employee if she could assist. She looked at the picture of what I had and said she's busy doing something but would send someone to assist. I waited for what seems like 7 minutes and no one came to help me so I tried to look again. I saw another employee putting toys away so I asked them have they seen the costume. She says no and instead of even trying to assist went back to what she was doing. I see a 3rd employee and ask them if they've seen any ninja costumes. She goes no we don't have any. So I told her what the website stated and asked how long it would take for an employee to actually try to locate the item if I did an online order. She rudely stated well I just said we don't have it. So I got a little louder and said I know what you said but it states you do so again how long would it take for someone to go and actually look. Another male employee overheard me, came over and asked if I had a sku number. He looked it up and said give him a second. He went to the back and in less then 5 minutes he came out with what I needed. I've worked in retail before and I have always done what I could to help locate an item when someone has asked. The employees at this location need some customer service training. I shouldn't have to go to so many people to get some assistance. The store barely had any customers. read more

I throw an promotion gathering for my brother on June 7th and I called about a week in advance to inquire about how far ahead I needed to order about thirty balloons I was told if I need them on a weekend then call or come in about 3 days ahead so I did just that ... the cashier Laylah directed me to the latex ballon area to pick out my own color combo ( the colors were red, black and green ) I brought them back up to her and explained I need them for that Saturday. She assured me they would be ready and to get their ahead of the pickup time . Laylah was extremely patience and accommodating and I really appreciated her work ethic . Even at the end of the transaction the printer went out and she hand wrote the details for me ! Plus, they have a HUGE candy section with singular pieces for $.05, which is nice when you just want a bite and you're strolling along. I went to get a variety of balloons for my son's 3rd birthday. I don't buy balloons often (if ever) and I was slightly in awe of current prices, but that's everywhere. Anyways, as I was walking out with 5 balloons, 3 of them flew away immediately after the automatic doors opened. I didn't realize until I was putting them into the car. I went back inside and explained what happened and they inflated the same three balloons at no charge. I know they're just balloons, but I felt overwhelmed and defeated and they really helped me out. Brightly lit, warehouse-sized and logically organized during one of their busiest holidays (Halloween), Party City made a fan out of me. I drove here from a competitor down the road because they had their website had the exact Ariel seaweed boa and redhead wig I was looking for ... and lo, and behold, they had it in stock! That kind of truth in advertising speaks well of a company trafficking in fun, and it'll mean the world to my kid, which is the way to any parent's heart. I was shopping for my husband's birthday party decor. I bought several things and also made a balloon order for the next day. While ordering, I was bothered by the fact that the employee was only half listening to my order, and kept giving me a confused look. I repeated politely how each bouquet of balloons was to be made up. There were only three colors, but she still needed so much clarification. I left feeling like there was 90% chance the order would be botched, and when I looked at my receipt with the balloon order instructions, half of the information I discussed eith the employee was not even on it. I called the store to clarify once again and they reassured me the order would be fine. The next day, I was to pick up the balloons and nothing was put together and half the balloons were wrong! It took 45 minutes for them to fix their mistake!!! I have been here multiple times...every single time I am met with disrespect and attitude by the staff. For example...today went in to buy lollipops, I go to the register, the girl is just walking back and forth in front of me on her phone, completely ignoring me. So I approached the register where she says "I'm not open yet" with attitude. Then a woman comes up and says "You can take the next customer I'm not ready" and the girl proceeds to tell me to "come up". I always say thank you and have a good day when I leave, she just gave me a stank a** look and said nothing. This is usually ALWAYS the type of "customer service" that I am given at this party city and it's extremely frustrating. working in customer service myself I understand where staff comes from, however I will be rude whenever I come in here from now on because I find it ridiculous that I'm being disrespected by little girls. read more

Came here for balloons, for my son's birthday was told I need to wait an hour because they have online.orders to fill ? At the end of the day I'm here in person opposed to someone that ordered online. I should be priority. Only takes about 10 minutes to blow up five balloons. Especially when one balloon is $15. I left everything at the register, and took my business elsewhere. Not understanding how priority are people that order online if that's the case, get some extra staff higher some more people or have overnight shift the people coming in should not have to wait an hour on off the highway for balloons to get blown up. The worst ever party city to shop at. The attitude and the behavior of the staff there sucks and they never get any of their online orders right. It is like the staff there really doesn't want to work and gives you an attitude when approached with a question. This is like the third time they got my order wrong and also told me that the order was cancelled once we arrived. Had the balloons given to them to inflate and when we reached the store to pick it up, none of the staff knew where it was until I saw it at the corner and pointed it out to them. Literally took them 30 mins to blow up 5 balloons. The young lady up front had an attitude and my balloon bouquet looks a mess.

This 5 star is purely for one of the associates, destiny. I came in for last minute balloons with my fussy 2 year old. Instead of avoiding eye contact like some did, she came up to me and offered help. There was a helium shortage so I couldn't get what I needed but she helped me find alternatives. Came 11/28/2015 6p. Staff were mildly enthused, the average of the many tri-state area's Party City's I've been to. Staff are mildly knowledgeable, not able to answer detailed item location questions but generally attempting to be helpful. Sales seem heavily reliant on helium balloon sales as the items were very highly priced vs, say, eBay thus a premium on making a big deal out of balloons but luckily, I bought just a helium tank of which there were plenty in stock. Has the usual inventory range you'd expect in this large-sized location. One unisex bathroom, moderately clean, in the far rear right side. Only trickiness is getting on & off this busy & famously dangerous stretch of Rt 22. Ample parking in the lot. read more

Understaffed, literally nobody on the floor to assist you in this large store. I called and spoke with someone for a specific item and they told me they had 4 pair. I got here and they didn't have any. The associate then asked for the SKU to call another store. The other store totally disregarded the SKU and kept saying they have another style. I liked that the new location is easier to find parking and to get to but staff should be more attentive to customers in store then having them waitg while you take new customer calls. It's unfair to think a paying customer, with goods in a cart, gets shafted while waiting to pay for a customer who calls in for a dozen questions. But the lady in the front with glasses and dark hair Rudly said we are closed at 4:20 with no explanation. There were people walking around and I wasn't the only one waiting outside. They never have anything in stock. I ordered balloons online for delivery and when they arrived I was missing a balloon bouquet. Before I realized the driver had left and I called the store immediatley. I spoke to someone and I was told that item was out of stock and it would take 5-10 business days for a refund. So I waited. On the 5th day I hadn't received anything and I looked on their website and under refunds it said 3-5business days. I called again and i spoke with an employee and was told that the refund should've taken place if the item was out if stock and once it was scanned. Nope. I spoke with the manager and explained the situation. He was helpful and apologetic. Fast fwd a few weeks later. I ordered balloons again online but this time store pick up. I received an email stating that one of the items was not available but the other two were ready for pickup. So my husband went to pick up the items. When he arrived he was given only one balloon. He showed the store associate the email that clearly stated that two out of three were ready for pick up. They told him no because it was out of stock. I don't understand how if it was out of stock why I received an email stating that it was ready for pick up. I am going to have to reconsider going somewhere else other than this particular PC location. I am pretty sure I will have to do a f/u on the refunds. I have zero faith it will happen automatically. I wish I could give zero stars. This location is terrible. Every time I go, not one person asks if you need help while you're standing there waiting for assistance. They are so so slow. Even ringing up one individual. I called this location looking for an item in stock (because every party city I called said it was out of stock but kenilworth had it). I was told that "she could not check because she was in the back" then proceeded to telling me that I could come in and look for myself and that they probably didn't have it. I asked if she could please check the system so I didn't have to drive there for it to just be out of stock. She then told me that I could try Watchung or Woodbridge and I advised her that both those stores said kenilworth had the item. She proceeds to telling me that "yeah she checked" and "they don't got it". Meanwhile I never gave her a SKU number, she never put me on hold to go look and she had messed up the item name when I mentioned it the first time so she didn't even know what I was looking for. I came the morning of my son's birthday. I came right when the place opened, and they told me that if I wanted balloons it would be an hour wait, and that I should have preordered. There is no advertising about this prerequisite and they acted like I should just know this. When they did to my order, they were out of the main balloon that I had wanted. Terrible terrible terrible on all accounts! I was there for about 2 1/2 hours with my partner shopping for 40tg birthday decorations, the selection they had was scarce but it's not the stores fault, I know that's corporate. I went up to pay for everything and order balloon floor arrangements. I spent over an hour with the sales person named Andrea. She was great in helping us with color schemes and matching weights. She even called over to another store to see if they had a specific Mylar balloon as they were out of stock and she knew I wanted it. I left there thinking how great the experience was with them! Fast forward to the day of pick up. I sent my partner as I was busy getting everything set up. She went in with the receipt in hand at the time stated on the receipt and handed it to the person at the counter. They walked back and forth looking for the order which they quickly realized had never been done. They handed the receipt off to another girl who loudly stated "I know nothing about this order" as she turned around, my partner realized it was none other than Andrea!!!! We placed the order with her specifically on Monday for a Friday pick up. But yet, she has no clue about the order? They apologized and said they would do it ASAP which in their eyes meant 45 mins later. Here I am with over 50 guests coming into a party and I'm still setting up bc my balloon order wasn't ready and toon 45 mins to do! Fast forward to the following Monday when I went back to buy thank you cards, and spoke with the manager about said order. She listened to me and then hand wrote a note saying that I will get 20% off my next order but only if she is there. Are you kidding me? I will never return to this location. The store was bigger than I thought it would be. It reminds me of a grocery store. My first initial thought was that it was not cluttered, like most Party City's that I've been inside. It was very spacious, and roomy. The associates that were working the floor made sure that I found everything that I needed. All of the items are organized by category, and nothing was out of place. Everything was exactly where it was supposed to be. I had fun just walking up and down the aisles, they had nice costumes. The prices were very reasonable. When I got to the check out counter the sales associate made sure that I found everything that I needed, and that I didn't have any trouble finding my items. read more

First, I will start by saying I love the new location so much and it is such a joy shopping at the store now. I visited the store recently to get something that glows in the dark for a glow in the dark party theme we were having for our children. I went in not knowing what to get and as I was browsing a party planner named Jackie noticed I could use some help (what an awesome free service that you now offer). She instantly began giving me great ideas and showing me many different items that I never even realized that would work perfect for our party. I usually do not like to be helped by store employees, but she was so helpful and friendly that it felt more like I was shopping with a friend. She had great ideas that ended up being a huge hit like the headbands with the pom poms and the multi-colored tutus for the girls, oh and the neon capes for the boys. As we talked she gave us some great ideas for our Paris theme birthday party we will be having for our daughter.
