OMG, the best balloon experience...ever. I am an event planner, and Yuri was my savior when it came to making sure I had my balloons in time and on budget for my event in early October. I was on a limited budget and needed to wait until the last minute to make sure I had enough in my budget to order up a bunch of balloons for my event. I stopped in and had a balloon consultation with Yuri to find out how much everything would cost. She said if I come in the next morning, she'd make sure to get the order in with enough time to make the deadline for pick up. Yuri made it happen! Balloon emergency handled like a pro. Horrible customer service. I spent a lot of money over the years at this store buying party supplies. The staff was never too friendly but today was horrible. I was extremely busy all day and came close to 6 pm. The place was already closed even though they were scheduled to stay open until 6 pm. The guy who said he was the manager refused to open the store and to let me buy balloons. I explained that I am desperate because the next day is my son's bday and I need balloons for tomorrow early morning for a surprise. The guy refused even though they were not supposed to be closed. This is Chicago, the Windy City, and MAN, did I experience that today! After purchasing balloons for someone's 70th birthday, I ridiculously expected the balloons to be far enough away in the car that they wouldn't float out...and away. But indeed they did. Went back to Party City, sheepish. The manager there was kind!, explained that this DOES happen (did I mention this is the Windy City?) and before I knew it, I had fresh balloons in my hand. (Plays air guitar) Well it isn't a party that usually brings me here to shop, though this BIG store has a ton of items for celebrations everything from kiddo b-days, retirement buh byes, happy being fifty day, ect. The decorations range from streamers to balloons to character balloons, piñatas, paper plates and table cloths, & party favors: candy, noisemakers, keychains, magnets, pens- the usual jive. Anyways they have some holiday stuff too. The Halloween selection is surprisingly big considering so many pop up Halloween stores exist during that month. Those usually have 100's of costumes and items plus all the myriad online Halloween options, however I respect they provide option for those who need to get something on the fly. Christmas I was a bit disappointed at the Christmas selection and amount of wrapping paper. I though it would be much, much more. I didn't walk away with everything I was hoping to buy there that day. The aisles are so spacious they could wedge in just a couple more displays or end caps of merchandise. I did find some ok wrapping paper for my dog's gifts and my friend's dogs' gifts. I didn't want too spend much and it was a great deal. Pro tip: get more wrapping paper than you think you need because you'll use more than you think. And non toxic soy ink wrapping paper for dogs and cats is available online or at specialty boutiques. This did the trick in a pinch and I def will return for some inexpensive holiday or bday stuff. Party on! read more

As we got out of the car my party planning loving almost 5-year-old said "Wow! This is an entire city just for planning parties?" This is the same girl who shouts with glee when the oriental trading catalog shows up our house so should have known we had a long afternoon ahead at Party City. Based on the look on her face when we walked in it didn't disappoint. It has all her favorite things in the world: balloons (including life size princess balloons), hundreds of Halloween costumes, decor for every kind of party imaginable and candy. Lots of candy. Since I brought along my daughter I didn't get a chance to get anything I actually needed for upcoming bday and Halloween bashes but it looks like this newish location has much of what I need...and more. It did prove to be the perfect place to kill a dreary Saturday with a kid so think we will be back a bunch of times this winter. Impressive selection for party planning, but they could have a few more employees at the registers. We waited in line longer than was necessary. I'm also disappointed that the don't deliver balloons since there are only so many life size princess balloons I can fit in my car. This place is the absolute WORST!! From the incompetent employees to the shitily-filled (I'm making it a word) balloons, my experience with this Party City location was an utter disaster. I came in last weekend to get a set of 30th birthday balloons and a set of graduation balloons filled. The tween stoner kid behind the counter barely made eye contact as I placed my order. I showed him which balloons to put into each set and suggested that he write down the order to avoid error (a suggestion that fell on deaf (perhaps high?) ears). When I came back to pick up the balloons, the sets were completely f'd up - birthday balloons in the graduation set and vice versa, too many balloons blown up, and a tiny balloon that clearly had not been fully inflated or was leaking air. When I pointed out the issues, the stoner kid's customer service skills kicked in and he responded with a "we do whatever crazy stuff people tell us to do" and "you asked for this." I don't know what green-eyed flying unicorn told him to mix up the balloons and inflate one halfway but it surely wasn't me! The final insult came when one hour into the party, the set of graduation balloons started sinking to the ground faster than the Titanic. They were a sadder-looking bunch than Hugh Hefner's penis sans Viagra. Never again, Party City, never again! read more

All right, so they don't know what a cornucopia is, and they didn't seem to have a reacher-stick available for getting things off the top shelf (instead just batting them off with a stick of wrapping paper). At least they were friendly, and had gads of Hanukkah gelt in stock. It's a well-kept store, with party supplies all year round... not jut at Halloween like some stores of this kind. I have certainly had mixed experiences here over the years, but in general they are very dependable for party paper plates and plastic ware. They always have a decent selection of seasonal goods. Most recently we purchased Halloween costumes here and specialty candles for a sixtieth birthday party. The costume experience was fine with the exception of lack of courtesy on the part of other customers. Probably not the fault of the store. They only have two dressing rooms for trying on costumes and there was a group of teenage girls that hogged the rooms for way longer than they needed to. With regards to the birthday candles, wish they had a larger selection. Balloon people are friendly but again, wish there was a better selection. They never seem to have quite what I am looking for. read more

Very annoyed! I ordered some mylar balloons from amazon. I called ahead to see if they would blow them up. The next day I go in to get them blown up and they say there is a 24 hour holding period for balloons from outside the store. I was never told this and needed the balloons that day. While I was there multiple people were upset because they were also told mis information. I ended up buying a helium tank and was not offered a discount or anything! This location tends to have a lesser selection of costumes, I've noticed. The staff is mostly nice and energetic or fun when you are dealing with them but that's about it. Customer service sucks and i have dealt with a few of them who clearly don't know their location. Phone customer service is polite, though i did get hung up on once ( before i even said hello) but that could have been an accident. Just a tip to anyone answering the phones and to corporate in regards to your phones recordings. Slow the fuck down. You guys sound like a jimmy johns commercial on speed. read more

I went here to have balloons filled. Be warned they upsold me from the regular helium to the high float helium. The balloons literally didn't make it standing for my entire party. My pick up time was 10 am Saturday and the party started at noon. By 2 many of the balloons were not still floating, I have never seen this happen before with regular helium , so I don't know how this is possible with the "high float helium". If you do use them for balloons don't be fooled into upgrading. read more

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. This store doesn't deserve the 1 star Yelp forces you to give. The employees have no manners at all. They were very rude and unhelpful. When I was ready to check out they had a line of 10 people, I was 11, with 2 people behind the counter. 1 guy checking people out and 1 girl with her back to the line eating chips. After a while another girl came to check people out and she had a very bad attitude. I was unfortunate enough to end up with her checking me out. Please never go to this location of Party City. After the hassle, destruction and everything else we've been through with them, I know that I will never go to another Party City location in my life and will let everyone I know know to go elsewhere. I don't have much time to write right now (lots to do) or else I'd go into detail, but basically, they made my mom (who was on time for the reservation) wait 45 minutes before helping her, then proceeded to take someone else's large order (5,000 balloons or so) before helping her. She only needed one balloon and the helium tank as well, so it wouldn't have taken any time at all... Then, the guy forgot to close the trunk to her wagon, so my daughter's presents wound up all over skokie boulevard and her new hoodie has tire marks on it. Then, they told me that I couldn't return the tank, that she had to do it, but they could give me the deposit back on my account and I could pay her back if I wanted to (I didn't)... I'll get into more detail later, but really, the people who work at party city have the intelligence of the spider I killed yesterday morning. read more

Bigger location and they have lots of colored plates and napkins but they are seriously lacking in kid party theme plates and napkins. They basically didn't have anything that they had online. They do have a lot of the plastic junk that you might put in a goody bag but no matching plates, napkins, cups, bags. It was a wasted trip and the customer service was pretty nonexistent. read more

this location has to be the absolute most horrific and poorly run facility in all of the party supplies stores the country has to offer. trying to make a group of innocent high schoolers satisfied and excited for the upcoming Valentine's day holiday performance, my friend and I decided to look for face tattoos. we checked online and were notified that the Northbrook location had 6 packs available. to avoid traveling 30 MINUTES to be let down, we even gave them a call ahead of time. the associate confirmed that they were available and even assured us they would be put on hold. upon our arrival, we were surprised to find out that the 3 idiots behind the counter all had different responses to when we asked for the items we placed on hold. one of them said we don't put items on hold, another said he talked to us on the phone and told another employee to put them on hold. the third employee told us she couldn't find them, and obviously didn't follow up before we drove 30 minutes out of our way. instead of offering us another solution or assistance, they told us we can go scavenge the shelves for ourselves. after searching the entire Valentine's day section of the store for at least 15 minutes, I needed to find a bathroom - only to discover a gross and unkept tiny room with no toilet paper. we ended up leaving without any consolation from the associates or temporary tattoos. can't believe we received such awful service and that this company would hire such incompetent associates. I don't like to write a negative review but the 9 people in line with me observed horrible customer service. One person on a register, and a young girl on the phone. As the line grew deeper we asked if anyone else could come up front to help move things along. I had a lot of items for a baby shower and others also had carts full. The girl on the phone had put the person on hold so I asked if she could call them back and help us. She snapped at us, saying she didn't know their number(she could ask?) and that she was going as fast as she could. Said her manager was on a conference call and there were only 3 people working. The problem was, she was rude, and disrespectful. We all looked at each other in disbelief. (After 5 more minutes we could see her register and her person she was helping on the phone only ordered $25 of balloons) During this time, an employee, a guy, came out to look at some stock on the shelf and we asked him if he could open a register and help. He seemed to want to help but the blond cashier said no they only have 2 open registers. Had I not been on a deadline I'd have walked out. A woman in line said this is awful someone needs to Yelp this. I have the low rating for the really pathetic customer service, I think the items are pricey too but the selection was nice and the store was clean and organized. read more
