The I got the frischipastetli, a pot pie made with a beef and veal ragout with wild morels from the surrounding forest. The stew was well seasoned and tender, the potatoes still had their firmness, and the flaky pastel was perfect. Penny got the steinpilz ravioli, which she enjoyed. A fun family atmosphere, really good food, and kind attentive service (from people who speak at least four languages!) makes me want to go back.

Opting to sit inside, we had an outstanding view to the lively city life. We finally began to unwind from a long day, as we dined on brick oven prepared pizzas, spinach cannoloni, lasagna and tiger prawn topped noodles. After the meal was completed, we strolled back to our hotel blissfully slipping into a "carb coma" and regroup for tomorrow's excursions. Restaurant Rossini was our first fortuitous encounter in Switzerland.

As we waited we watched others who arrived after us receive their food. Waitresses struggled not to make eye contact with us as we looked for help. There were two other tables with people of color and they seemed to receive the same treatment. What a way to ruin a travel experience. Clearly African Americans are not welcomed in Lucerne.

We didn't have a reservation but were quickly and warmly shown to our covered decktop outdoor table. The evening view of Lucerne and Mt. Pilatas was breathtaking. The ambience was warm. I wished the old steamer could tell us its tales. The service was exceptional (yes, they gave us, without our having to ask, menus in English when we were seated) and the food (I'm not a foody by any means) was outstanding. I had the stuffed chicken breast (stuffed with pistachios and apricots, I think). It was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The accompanying vegetable based sides were out of this world. I would definitlely recommend William Tell. If I'm ever lucky enough to visit Lucerne again, I would DEFINITELY eat here again. However, I'd make a reservation first. I think we got lucky getting a table the first time.

Make a reservation for the patio as the restaurant's prime location gives you an amazing view of the Chapel Bridge and Old Town Lucerne. Our classic cheese fondue was tasty, but I loved the raclette! What is raclette? Raclette is a Swiss dish in which a wheel of semi-soft cow's‑milk cheese, traditionally from Valais, is heated and the melted layer is scraped onto potatoes, bread, and pickled vegetables. Raclette refers both to the cheese and the dish. The name comes from the French racler, meaning "to scrape," describing how the melted cheese is served. Our traditional raclette had a wedge of cheese that was heated on a special tabletop electric raclette machine. It was served with bowls filled with boiled red potatoes, cornichons, tiny, pickled pearl onions, steamed veggies, cubes of bread and sliced fruits. Loved the melted cheese that topped the fruits, veggies, pickles, potatoes and bread. Note: Although they do have chocolate fondue here, many Swiss Fondue restaurants do not.
