I love tacos, and I put taco eating at the top of my tourist list when I visit Mexico. I was excited to try Pasele Machin, but it was mostly a bummer.
The restaurant is very clean and the service was friendly, but this caters-to-locals taco joint serves only average food. There are far better tacos to be had elsewhere in the city, and it would be a shame if you wasted your time, money, and tummy room eating here.
Prices are in line with most other "nicer" taco eateries in town. You won't find a real bargain, but it's not exactly overpriced either, especially by U.S. standards.
The restaurant has indoor seating with no a/c, so sit in front of a fan to keep cool. You can get bottled water and sodas here, so no worries on that front.
We opted for a fried chile taco and a shrimp quesadilla, which in Puerto Vallarta means a taco loaded with melty cheese! A salsa sampler was brought to the table, and nothing stood out. The hot sauce had a great heat, so be careful. I enjoyed the creamy guacamole sauce the best.
Our food came out very quickly. The portion size of the grilled shrimp in my quesadilla was very small and disappointing. The ingredients just weren't high quality. A store-bought, very lardy flour tortilla made up the base, followed by the poorest quality melted queso ever (it looked like plastic and had a gross, plastic texture). The only saving grace here were the shrimp (great flavor, just needed more) and the super fresh avocado.
The fried chile taco was more of the same, but the portion size was much larger. The breading was thick but not greasy. But again, the lardy tortilla was just gross.
I also hated that both items had this cheap red cabbage and carrot blend shoved into everything. I would rather be able to add my own toppings. read more
