It's thicker, more cheesy than what I've ever had before and very delicious. We paired that with the prime rib tacos, it was a plate stacked with meat and 4 tortillas under it, more than we could eat. The seasoning was great, it was diced so small that it was easy to eat. I was honestly surprised to see this place rated so highly because our experience was pretty disappointing. We ordered the ribeye, al pastor, and chorizo tacos. The ribeye had so much fat that we had to pick through it just to eat it. The al pastor was very average - I've had much better at plenty of other taco spots. The biggest disappointment was the chorizo. It wasn't traditional chorizo at all; it looked and tasted more like chopped-up hot dogs. We barely touched it because it wasn't what we ordered expecting, and it just wasn't good. The presentation also wasn't appealing. The meat was simply piled on top of two tortillas, making everything messy and difficult to eat. They were also pretty stingy with the grilled jalapeños. The salsas didn't do the food any favors either. None of them really stood out, and the green guacamole salsa actually tasted like it had gone bad, so we stopped eating it. Service was attentive, but almost too attentive. Staff kept coming by every few minutes to ask if we were finished or if we needed anything. While I appreciate good service, it made us feel like we were being rushed through our meal instead of being able to enjoy it at our own pace. Overall, I don't understand the high ratings based on our experience. With so many amazing taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, this one didn't come close to meeting the hype. Having researched a few traditional spots that serve authentic tacos in Zona Romantica, this place consistently came up with good reviews and this place did not disappoint. Vegans are easy please. Give them clear marked options, even if there is one option, we are pleased. This place had a few clearly marked options plus the staff was fully aware and can provide suggestions. The only downside it is a cash only place. Guacamole and chips - fantastic. The guacamole freshly prepared and chips fresh fried. Amazing. The 3 types of vegan tacos we got were vegan chorizo, mushrooms and cactus (trying for the fist time). The vegan chorizo was the best, slightly spicy but not overly. The poblano peppers were predictable but very good. The onions with it were a good addition. Nicely seasoned and prepared. The cactus was good, we found that it was less seasoned. Just stir fried cactus. The star of all the three types tacos was the fresh blue corn tacos. We could have those everyday. The other superb tasting was the salsas and fresh toppings. 4 types of salsas, white onions and cilantro. The salsa were of varying different levels of heat and even the mildest salsa was the best. The virgin margarita and virgin mojito were great. Margarita being slightly better even though we love mint. AMAZING! So good we went back twice!! We attempted to go to another spot that we'd heard about but it was closed that day so our taxi driver took us here and said it was better than the original place we were aiming for. The food was so so so so good! The staff was great and spoke English well enough to get your request. The restaurant wall decor is so charming with art and plants hanging from the ceiling. We stopped by Sonorita after getting a recommendation from a couple of locals, and it did not disappoint. The place is set in a cool loft-style building with interesting decor and plenty of seating, with a good mix of locals and tourists. Service was quick and no fuss. We ordered chips and salsa to start, then the al pastor and chorizo tacos. The salsas were great and the al pastor were really good- well seasoned, generous meat, and cooked well. Perfectly shaved with just the right amount of pineapple dressed with cilantro and onions -- with just a squeeze of lime these don't need anything else. Came upon this place, based on yelp reviews. Getting the prime rib tacos is an absolute must. The proportion was gargantuan and totally worth the price. You also get a great blue corn tortilla with them. I also loved Al pastor - with a nice chunk of pineapple. They have a nice selection of drinks as well, although I don't drink alcohol very much. Quick Thoughts on This Spot (Writing from the Airport) This won't be a polished post since I'm literally at the airport trying to remember everything--but I'll try to capture it right. So, this was a pretty good place. I've lived in PV before and been here a few times, so this isn't my first rodeo. First thing to say: the prices are great, no lie. Especially for a place right in a highly touristy area, you get a solid amount of food for not that much money. That alone makes it worth checking out. The service is always fast. Even when it's packed (and it often is), you can usually get a table quickly and they bring your food out fast. That's just kind of the PV standard in my opinion--customer service here is generally excellent, and this place holds up to that. There's always music going, and the drinks are solid, so the vibe is right. Honestly, it's one of the best spots to hit with a group of friends, especially when you're a little drunk--it just adds to the fun. Food-wise, the tacos are definitely up there. I'd give them a strong 4 out of 5--honestly wish I could give a 4.5. They're damn good and pretty close to the best I've had in the area. Overall, great value, good food, fun vibes. First meal in PVR, particularly in Romantic Zone. CASH ONLY We tried the 3 different types of tortilla - SONORITA TACOS - regular corn tortilla with prime rib. Meat was fine - LOS HUARCHES - hand made corn tortilla with refried beans and cheese. We got this with pastor and the pastor wasn't as flavorful as expected. - HUERAS - hand made flour tortilla with cheese - we got this with chorizo but expected the ground kind of meat in the States. This tasted like a chopped up Kirkland hotdog on a tortilla. The oil from the chorizo also seeped through the tortilla so I can't tell if it's the flour tortilla I also didn't like or was it just the chorizo. This place gets crowded! For a good reason. I thought the food is very good! I first found it on a taco tour. According to my guide Sonora is supposed to have the best beef but the place is also known for their Al pastor. This time I has the skirt steak tacos.
