Ah, life was so simple then. And it's been decades since I've been back, and my, how it's all come full circle: came through to celebrate one of my cousin's kids' birthdays. It is almost exactly as I remember it, but with upgrades. There are more picnic areas now, the playground is up to date, most everything is maintained so clean! It was kinda cool guiding the kids to kite flying and watching them play games during the party. For a few moments there, I was back to my pre-teen self again. I was told they have festivals here once in a while, so I really should keep up with their scheduled events! I loved it then, I still love it now. Glad it's still around and still maintained so well.

There's a community garden here with free mulch. There's a basketball court as well. I noticed lots of folks doing tai chi here. I also noticed groups of nannies meeting up here with their kids. There's no sand, dirt or wood chips at the playground area. The bad: One of the four swings could've used WD40. It was very squeaky. There was a man on the bench by the playground alone with a book who looked to be video recording the playground. I wasn't sure if it was innocent and he was potentially just video chatting with someone and showing them where he was but I was suspicious that a man would come alone and choose a bench by the loud children's play area to read rather than sit at one of the many other benches further away for a quiet space to read. The interesting: There's plenty of street parking. The playground is flat.

The play area I'd say os good for ages 6 and under but, maybe some 8-10 years old kids can find joy too. They have a nice picnic area in the spacious grass and not too many tree obstacles to fly a kite too, or even navigate an RC drone or toy without electrical or utility wires either. Very small. It took us less than 5 minutes to walk from one end to the other to the LO stopping to walk around the kids play structure. It's would be a nice place to sit and relax except one of the neighboring houses had some renovation going on and all we could hear was the drilling. Street parking is so easy I give it 5 stars because it's dedicated to fallen soldiers and it's not pretending to be something it isn't

However, this park is made better by its large size and the adjacent library. It's scenic and has old trees and barbeque pits. There are some riff raff types in the park and I can imagine it wouldn't be a perfectly safe place at night. But it's near a major street and basically safe. It was a very dangerous and frustrating experience, and I plan to take a photo of the rider if this happens again. The park clearly has signs prohibiting biking on the pathways. Under Torrance's local ordinances, riding a Class 3 E-bike here is illegal and subject to fines. Even Class 1 or 2 E-bikes (and traditional bicycles) are only permitted on designated bike paths or roadways, making it illegal to ride them on sidewalks or within the park's walking areas.
