Although academically the school is sound, I worry about students who are marginalized when their parents can't afford certain activities. On one such occasion, children who did not pay a $40.00 fee were sent back to class to watch as other children were splattered with Diwali colors as they ran around the field. As we look for inclusion of all children, why are poorer children of color being obstracized from these fun events? On another note I've heard that parents who contribute the most to the school are guaranteed their choice of teacher in the Fall. This is just yet another example of "Pay to play" in our stratified, divided world. Schools are supposed to be the great equalizer but apparently not at Playa Vista Elementary School.

Kentwood felt like home the first time my husband and I toured when my son was 3. We joined for a follow up when he was 4 and enrolled happily for K commencing in 2020. School last year was *interesting* - online and a K parent... I had low expectations. Kentwood exceeded expectations. My son's teacher was excellent and I managed to meet some local families while remote. Everyone is SO nice! Moving to the 2021 school year - IN PERSON! We added a kid, now TK and 1st grade students on campus. Our teachers are wonderful (Dr Williamson us a legend! And Ms Lee is kind, genuine, caring and eager to help our children who have never been in school full time.). The campus is clean, great playgrounds and green space. We even have a literacy garden for the TK-K kids to spend free learning time outside. The highlight of Kentwood? Our amazing new principal - she's hands on, working to bring parents back on campus, safely given Covid restrictions. Ms Von Schreiber is a gift to our school community. My children adore her and I admire her greatly. She's out front every day at drop off, responds to emails, dresses up for Halloween and 100 days....we are lucky to have her. I can't recommend this wonderful, true neighborhood school enough! #koalastrong

This…read moreis my daughters first year here and she's had other kids put their hands on her 6 times already (not including the name calls)and every time I've tried to get to the bottom of it the principal Dr. LaTanya Reeves is ALWAYS in a meeting. Once she finally decides to respond it's "I'm going to investigate and parents need to teach their kids not to hit back and have them tell the teacher." Well my daughter has constantly done that and was just pushed into a bush again by the same child that's been putting her hands on her and tearing up my daughter property. Telling me that lausd not wanting to do ieps and get therapy for these other kids is not an excuse for my child being physically and mentally harmed. Also this school needs to do better with contacting THE PARENT FIRST. There is no reason the grandparents are called first and the parent was never notified nor does the staff ever have an idea about what's going on.

Unfortunately, the front desk staff were rude and inflexible from the moment we walked in. Rather than welcoming a prospective student, they spent the entire interaction explaining all the reasons he couldn't see the campus that day. A simple gesture -- "since you're here, let us take five minutes to show him around" -- would have meant the world to a child. Instead, we got rigid rules and zero warmth. If this is how a school treats prospective families during what should be their best foot forward, I can only imagine the day-to-day environment for kids. We made the decision on the spot not to enroll. I'd recommend other families look elsewhere.

They did not have a special Ed class to take care of my needs, so I had to transfer to Coeur D Alene. Which really helped me out. I graduated and still moved on to more advanced classes. I had the best teacher here. I'd rather not give out her name. I recently found her in Social Media. and I'd like to meet up with her one day, and talk about the story of my life.
