Feels like a small town gem but really it's a small gem in a large town of options but I'd say this one has the healthier, and most supportive team of leaders amongst Atascadero through Paso Robles. Dropped into this gym while on vacation for a week and had a wonderful experience! It's a petite gym but still offers great workout, coaching and community. I've been doing CrossFit for over 5 years and for some coaching tips from coach Kara that I've never received before that really improved my technique. They offer modified versions and weights for each workout depending on your skill level. Everyone was very welcoming and fun to workout with. Can't wait to bring some of my new skills back to my home box and will definitely drop into this gym if I'm ever in the area again. I was in town for two days on business (military) and was looking for a box to drop in on and am glad to have picked Crossfit paso from Yelp. After calling and leaving a message, Sonjia called me back and ensured I knew the names of the coaches who would be holding the classes I was interested in. The location is easy to find, right off the 101, and is tucked at the end of a cul de sac/parking lot. It is much larger inside than it appears from out which was surprising. Plenty of quality equipment, pull-up/rack stations and a large padded floor. They also have an office area where the kids can hang-out while you get your sweat on. Faith taught the night class and Tyler taught the early morning class. Each time there were small groups of other members who were of varying fitness and experience levels who were all very friendly, fun and also focused. I particularly liked Faith's stretching/flexibility/mobility training. I am teased at my home gym because i cant barely touch my toes, but she helped point out some ways i can get more out of my stretches with minor changes in body position which really worked. I also met Sonjia that night before leaving and really enjoyed speaking with her. She made me feel welcome, which is one of the most important factors in selecting a long or short term gym. CrossFit Paso Robles is such a wonderful environment to work out in. The support from fellow participants is huge and only reinforced by the encouragement of our trainers here, Ryan and Sonjia. They are the best! Each workout is different and no matter your level of fitness is tailored to your body. I have been going for almost 6 months and the change in my body and life is huge. I can't say enough about this! I have been taking regular classes here since May. The trainers are incredible. They teach and motivate and I've never gotten a better workout or better results. I've become addicted to the way I feel now. Not only have I lost about 40 lbs since I've started, everything in life is easier. I can keep up with my young boys, and hike mountains like they're almost flat. The gift of fitness has brought good things everywhere along with better focus. so I have been researching workouts and gyms for some time now and had the opportunity to meet both owners at crossfit paso. At first it was difficult to contact someone because of their phone systems. (don't call, send an e-mail, you will get a really fast response). Everyone, including the clients, were really friendly and helpful. I was welcomed to watch a WOD and ask questions along the way, one thing that really impressed me was that if I asked a question while they (the owners) were coaching or training, they did not appear to get annoyed. They took the time to explain everything to me and how things were done and even invited me back to watch an "open" and even hang out after. I will most certainly become a member of this box, I just have to make sure I am ready mentally for the lifestyle change. read more

My husband and I tried crossfit for the first time, the gym was nice and clean and the clients there welcomed us like we were family. One of the trainers Sonjia was very personable. She also was very positive and up beat. We don't recommend taking a class when Ryan is a trainer. Both my husband and I left upset because Ryan was talking bad about a lot of people in the community, and some of those people happen to be our friends. (These friends are not even members of this gym.) Seeing how Ryan interacts and treats clients in his class made us very uncomfortable. read more

I have always wanted to try a CrossFit based work out before, but after seeing the kind of incredible acrobatic things that take place in a WOD, I felt intimidated and just KNEW I wouldn't be able to participate. I'm a runner, I can run forever, but ask me to do a full body push up and you have pretty much hit the max of my physical ability. Well, let's all be honest, I could probably do 1/2 a full body push up, it's better than nothing, right? Then my boyfriend decided to surprise me and take me along to one of his KennedyCross workouts just before the holidays, assuring me everything would be OK. And he was right. I met Ryan and Sonjia (the trainers) who posted what the Workout of the Day (WOD) for that day was, and made sure to modify the entire workout so everyone in our group could participate, regardless of what your current fitness ability is. I never in a million years thought I would be able to do a pull up, and yet on day 1 I was doing assisted pull-ups, and loving it. The gym is very clean and meticulously maintained, there are ample weights for all fitness levels, Sonjia and Ryan are excellent trainers that are sticklers for form, they would rather see you do less reps with lighter weights and maintain perfect form than injure yourself. Sonjia and Ryan also are extremely knowledgeable in health, fitness, and body mechanics, they have been able to answer every question I've ever had. I have never worked out in a group before, and I loved the camaraderie that comes with it, everyone has their workout they are doing, and yet everyone helps push each other. I know there are others out there who are like me, intimidated and unsure if you will be able to do these types of intense work outs, I was one of you. But after the experiences I have had at KennedyCross, my fears seem so silly now. Check them out, you won't be disappointed, and you might just be shocked and surprised at your own physical abilities! read more

Crossfit is about PRs, living clean, being a team, and eventually growing into a family. The trainers here take extra care to make sure that you have correct form when doing Olympic lifting, which is crucial in preventing injury, and pertinent when striving for PRs. Sonjia and Ryan are coaches that strive for excellence and expect the same from their clients. I have personally gained so much knowledge about what my body is capable of, and the results are physically noticeable. I would encourage anyone, especially the timid, to check out one of our classes--you will be pleasantly surprised! Crossfit is not about lifting the most weight or doing the most burpees--unless you're going to go Pro like Rich Froning--it's about getting yourself in shape and the satisfaction that comes with it. I joined CrossFit Paso Robles a few weeks ago and I am really enjoying it. Yes, I was somewhat intimidated by the idea of working out in a CrossFit environment, however I have had nothing but amazing support from the trainers here. I have worked out before but many of the exercises are new to me and each and every trainer has spent time with me to help me with my technique; they are very patient and I am confident that they are looking out for me during the classes. Everyone I have met in the classes is friendly and welcoming which makes getting motivated to go to a class much easier. Thank you Sonjia for creating a great environment! My husband and I were in Paso for 2 nights last week and dropped in to CF Paso Robles. We are relatively new to CrossFit and have only done it at 2 other boxes, one in Kaua'i and one near home, in Studio City, CA, so were weren't sure what to expect. As we drove to CFPR, I said to my husband "I hope they are friendly". Turns out I had nothing to fear. Coach Kerin and the women in class (my husband ended up being the "token" male in the 8:30 AM class the first day) were super friendly and we had a great time. The programming was appropriate given that we were in the middle of the Open, and we got a great workout 2 days in a row. Coach Faith taught a great class the second day. By the end of the second workout, we found ourselves hanging out chatting with some of the regulars and wishing that we had more time in Paso (and not JUST because of the wine tasting). We will definitely head back to CF Paso Robles next time we are in town. Highly recommend! read more
