I like how the Paso Robles Carnegie Library and city hall share a building. The library outgrew its original location, which was established in 1908 and relocated in 1998, and it is in the City Park. Be sure to visit the library's gift shop and check out the historical library. read more

I love the library. When I was a kid I use to come here to checkout books, do research for classes and even for tutoring sessions. As an adult I've discovered their craft and information events! They teach you different things each month and you end up discovering other community companies! Its educational and fun. I still rent books on my phone but also discovered they even have book club boxes! I'm very impressed with how the library is set up. Despite all the technology it still finds a way to engage the community and provide valuable resources! read more

Every time I go in there, the staff is very helpful. The place is always clean and orderly and I'm grateful we have such a place that still feels like an old fashioned library, but with updated technology. The kiosks are easy and convenient and the layout is well labeled and organized. If they don't have a book- they'll get it for you. I love the text updates and auto renewal. I'm very impressed with this library as I'm new to Paso and expect to use it often. Beautiful setting with wonderful book displays. They have a great children's section. It is very well stocked and laid out making everything easy to find. They even have a section of bins with enough books for book clubs. The staff was especially friendly and helpful. read more

Love libraries!!! So much information with checking out books, free use of DVD'S (if not in stock can request from another library and can be sent to yours), recent releases (will be put on a waiting list), computers for the internet, print documents, copy machine, out of area and local newspapers, reading area and hookups for your laptop. All this for FREE!!! Quiet and peaceful. Not like Atascadero's when the CHILDREN get out of school. Loud, social hour and using the computers to play games when they should be doing their homework!!! I need the computer for research and if I don't put my name to reserve I have to wait until their time is up. LESSON LEARNED:. Do not go when school lets out. Paso Library open until 8 pm weeknights. I was waiting in town for friends who were running late, so decided to visit the air conditioned library that I hadn't been to for years. It was so easy to sign up for a card & check out some audio books. Customer service is stellar. Everyone is so friendly & helpful. & there is a kind of nostalgia there that makes me want to hang out there & just write. My only complaint is that I was told that I could do everything from the computer, renew etc. I'm sure it is probably user-error & they have offered to help every time I have gone in, but it seems as if I always return things when I'm in a hurry. But I am told that you can automatically do a lot of things via the computer as well! read more

A 4 out of 5 as far as libraries go (though for a city our size, it's actually better than expected), but what pushes it up to the 5/5 mark is the FAST WIFI. In a town where it's hard to find an Internet connection reliable and fast enough to back photos up or post videos to social media, much less work with data-heavy high-resolution video files, the library's 500mbps Internet connection is a godsend. The atmosphere isn't the most warm and welcoming (it's a nice enough and relatively new building, but it's sterile and too quiet--I personally prefer the mild hubbub of a coffee shop; the lack of white noise here makes the occasional noisy kid stand out way too much), but if you need to transfer a big file or just have a phone that stubbornly won't back itself up over your slow home Internet connection, there's no better place in the city for that. read more

This is a nice library with a great facility but I thought libraries were supposed to be SILENT. There's no quiet areas and the only study areas are frequented with people having loud conversations and no one seems to do anything about it. Even the library employees speak pretty loudly. I'm practicing timed sections of the Law school admissions test and it is difficult when the only supposedly quite public place in town is as loud as a restaurant. read more

I feel very fortunate to have such a beautiful library right downtown. I love this place! It's large, clean and their kids area is awesome. We use the library primarily to find books my kid's school doesn't carry but the kids are required to read. The public library makes it so simple, you can request the book online or onsite and when it's available from any other library, they will ship to Paso (free) and then let you know when it's ready. There are kid activities in the library as well, puzzles, Lincoln Logs and much more. They offer a story time in a separate room for the little ones but you do need to sign up prior since space is limited. For the adults, they offer a large area for studying and computers for public use. I spent plenty of time at the old public library in San Luis after school for years, even when it moved to it's new location down the street so anytime I'm in a library, I get nostalgic (nothing replaces the scent of books). The one here in Paso Robles is an amazing resource. The library also offers free workshops for parents and kids, go online to find these, and there's a gift shop in the lobby area as well a sale rack to purchase older magazines. The librarians have always been quick to help when I look lost and most are very knowledgeable when it comes to books I'm looking for. read more

Although many may not know, the library in Paso Robles is support with private donations, fund raisers, and volunteers. This is incredible that a facility of this caliber could exist and thrive. If you are a local, you are lucky to have such a facility and I encourage you to be supportive of the library and its facility. Do what you can to help out, it will be worth it! I do! Incredibly lovely space with floor to ceiling windows, lots of natural light. Must commend the planning on this site -- ample power outlets, study space, desks, though wifi is slow. Like many small towns, some thought and effort have gone into the library. I think they have a rare opportunity in that its a wine town, so they could develop specific collections locals could appreciate such as cookbooks, wine resources, or on the historical side -- agricultural history. But that's my personal opinion. read more

We are visiting from Maryland and came with our kids to the library as our five year old is an avid reader. The children's librarian was constantly shushing the kids telling them that the noise makes it hard for her to work. The kids were in no way being unreasonable. My 3 year old was told to be quiet after he laughed at a joke told to him by another nice boy. Shameful for a children's librarian to act that way. She should be happy that there are children in the library having a great time. read more
