It's right next to the river. The county park restrooms are clean. The Friends of the Adobes sponsor interesting events during non-pandemic times. The Adobe in San Miguel is open to look around and get a feel for what it must have been like to live in times past. You may also get to experience firsthand what it was like to attend church in the Estrella Church only on Memorial Day. The graveyard at the Estrella Church had interesting markers too! Bring your singing voice and be prepared to hear an interesting talk by the guest preacher. Just across from the Rios-Caledonia is Mission San Miguel. They normally have tours there as well. The Mission and the Rios-Caledonia are a perfect stop to stretch legs and get a bit of history at the same time. My next trip is coming up with my grandsons, and I hope that they enjoy the history and the gift shop!

It was restored and rededicated May 25, 1952. Its gated but when we went , it was unlocked. But the church itself was locked. I would love to see what it look like inside. It's at the corner of Airport Rd and Adobe Rd. Not to confuse with Estrella Rd. I like history and appreciate well preserved historical sites. There is also a small cemetery in the back of the church in the same premise.

But like the other Yelpers noted, it's moved to a better spot. The spot is right alongside the walking path next to the parking lot. So for folks with mobility issues, they can get to the site a bit closer from their cars. The view towards the Morro Rock and harbor is gorgeous and impressive. The plaque has historical information of the first recorded landing of Filipinos on American land. It occurred in 1587 right in Morro Bay. The Filipino sailors in the Spanish navy were from the island of Luzon. The marker is a plaque embedded in a rock. The area around it has pretty native plants, well purposeful landscaped area. A bit different in its previous spot next to the children's playground.

On the East Village off of Main Street, we always drive by this steep hill and have always seen the sign for "Santa Rosa Chapel & Cemetery". So this year we decided to drive up the hill and check it out! A great find to learn more about this town's history! The little chapel can be used for weddings! It was built back in 1870 and had been there since! An old cemetery is also located atop the hill behind the chapel. We took a stroll to check it out and was able to see a few familiar family names. And finally figured that Fiscalini Ranch Preserve was named after the Fiscalini family! I always wondered where that name came from!

As an anniversary weekend trip, my husband and I visited together since he loves architecture and works in high end construction. I purchased the Grand Rooms tour for a 10am time slot. We arrived early enough, got good parking under the car port, and checked in. They were able to get us in earlier for the 9:40am tour. We boarded a bus that took us up the hill and we got to listen to a nice introduction of the Hearst Castle property. The tour was about a little over an hour long. The outside views and the pools of course are the highlights of the tour. The rest was very interesting to learn about the history and the works of Julia Morgan. With my adult eye, the castle was not as magical as I remembered but it was nice to revisit again. We almost did 2 tours, but I am glad we did just the one tour as I was already tired by the end of it due to the heat. Also, there were only porta-potties available for restroom use at the main entrance of the information center when I was there and it seems like it has been like that for a while just as a heads up if you have specific bathroom needs.

The beaches are clean, people were pleasant & mellow, and the bay views are beautiful. We spent most of the time just walking around. Plenty of parking too. While strolling the pier, you can find numerous seafood and waterfront dining options. If you live in California, it's a 3-day weekend escape, including the hours on the road.
