Stopped for a cup of coffee and an almond tort and a pasteles de nata. This is our first tasting of the pasteles de nata, so our review of how good these are may change, but personally, we thought they were great. The custard was creamy and the crust was flaky. The almond tart was a little drier. The coffee was delicious.

When in Portugal you must try the pasteles de nata so we ventured in for a try. I had tried them earlier at a different shop so I already knew what they were like. The custard is sweet and delicious as the pastry is flaky and off the chain. It was a little too "eggy" tasting though. The cafe con leche was good, hot and the sugar pack was enough. I tried to get them to sell me the coffee mug but the manager would not budge. We also had a cherry tart which I did not care for. The crust was thick and not flaky at all. The custard tasted like orange but the glazed cherries on top was good. We also tried a buttered croissant which was delish!! I love Lisbon!!!

    Take away :)

A large range of sweets and pastries. The Pastel de Nata has a nice crispness, and worth trying. Actually, try a bit of everything - it's hard to go wrong! You can eat inside, or get takeaway to snack on while waiting in the queue for the tower, or to enjoy by the seaside.

    Yum!

Had a cafe with a nice bolo de chocolate and pastel de nata - pretty good for a busy tourist area. Good selection and quick service.

What makes it special is watching the pastries being handmade right in front of you, which adds a level of freshness and craftsmanship that you can actually taste. The service was super fast and friendly. The pastel de nata came out perfectly, with that delicate flaky crust and warm custard that just hits differently when you know it was made moments ago. The espresso was equally impressive, rich and smooth, and the two together make for a simple but near perfect combination. If you are in the area, this is an easy and very satisfying stop.

Oh no. Am I the only one who doesn't like the pastel de nata custard tarts this restaurant is so…read morefamous for? The crust was super flaky and the tart was nice and warm out of the oven, but I didn't like the flavor of the custard. I did forget to add cinnamon to the top, but I don't think it would have helped me personally. The woman who stood next to me at the counter had a nearly orgasmic experience next to me, so it's obvious that my taste buds are apparently off. I loved the patience of the server, who got confused when I told her I wanted to eat in but wanted to take water to go. Note to self...Portuguese folks want to have their "to go" as "takeaway." What I also didn't know was that there was no place to sit!! I scooted down the counter just like all the other folks to watch the bakers prep the next gozillion pastries for the day. That was interesting. Then, I didn't know how to bus my dishes. I just left them on the counter like all the other folks and went away. I wouldn't skip going because of my personal taste buds, though. Enjoy it for yourself and let me know if you have a different opinion than I did!
