We deliberately avoided the expensive hotel restaurants and instead strolled around the town to find a good local spot. We peeked our heads into a few of the smaller restaurants and soon it became clear that there was only one choice: Summer Breeze. Cozy, intimate vibe, with a few tables outside where one could soak in the town. Locals and visitors alike came here, and over a slow leisurely two hrs, we had ourselves a bottle of wine, some appetizers, and the forkbeard main. Pro tip: mains are huge, and always come with a starchy side and also a salad. We were easily able to split this, and on top of the bread, cheese and soup appetizers, we were stuffed. Pro tip #2: this will probably be your best option to try a bottle of a good Azorean wine at a decent price. It seems that they are all the rage at the moment and thus command a substantial premium at most restaurants. Sergio and Daniella are your hosts here. We were fortunate that the sky had just cleared up when we visited and there's nothing like overlooking the rows of tea field with the town and ocean as the backdrop. And I love tea! We never made it to the plantations but was happy to see ao many offerings from the local sources. We took our time sipping our aromatic teas, nomming at our simple sandwiches, crunching and chewing at the contrasting textures of our black pudding pineapple... and just felt the warm sun and heard the birds and felt present and at peace. This really help set the relaxing foundation for our next few days. Never have I been so thankful for a cafe to exist in exactly the way it was meant for me to experience.
