Upon review of his Wikipedia page, it appears this man was seen as an ally to the black community in the early 20th century. That being said, as a mixed race family, we didn't feel comfortable returning to the restaurant having this offensive image hanging over our head. In the US the image of Black Face is considered racist. In Italy, it may not be considered problematic the way it is the US, but I imagine it may be offensive to many. Perhaps another image of this artist would be more appropriate.

American/Aussie owned bakery brunch spot by the river, such a cute little eatery. We loved our visit and though it's definitely more of a touristy spot, as most customers spoke English, the food was delicious to forgo the tourist trappy vibes. We shared a plate and added some items as we didn't want to get too stuffed on our first day of Florence. We had the Nduja Eggs plate with bacon and avocado added. Nduja is a spicy Calabrian pepper spreadable pork sauce, and oh boy was it so flavorful. If I remembered correctly, Melaleuca spread this sauce on top of a fried bread and eggs. I don't see it on the menu at the moment and it's probably a rotatable dish... but it definitely kicked started my hunt for the sauce. Since this is a spreadable pork, it's not something I could bring back to the US but I was able to find it online back home. The service was amazing and the beverages were delicious. Like many Italian places, the dining room is small and bathroom is a single small room that might require a small wait if they're busy. Didn't get to try their baked goods this last time, but definitely on our list to go back for more when we're back to Florence for a visit.

While you're here, you might as well grab some food, coffee and/or dessert. We ended up coming here for brunch and got a sandwich, iced Caffe, reg Caffe, and last but not least, the delectable Pistachio Mousse (thx to a tip from a fellow yelper!) I don't know if we were super hungry or what, but all the food at all of the stations looked really, really good. However, I didn't bother w anything I can easily get in the US. If weather permits, definitely chow down on the tables outside. There's a lovely arrangement of tables and canopies, all exquisitely decked out in Gucci-fashion.
