I went to this place for gelato. It was really good and relatively inexpensive. I had the hazelnut flavor. We were able to sit outside which was nice since it was pretty hot outside but this location was indoors which was nice. read more

The cutest pastry/restaurant/bar (coffee shop). Vintage decor, reminds me of mid century modern style. Tasty pastries, savory snacks and amazing coffee/beverages. We came by one day at 7ish and they were just getting set up - not open yet. They aren't an early coffee shop, but definitely worth the wait. We came by the next day to try and had a ham and cheese suppli (quite big) and a baby plain cornetto along w our espresso shots, or rather, Italians' caffe/coffee. Came back again the next day to have their cappuccini w cornetti filled w cream - one each a chocolate and a cream one. The service was quick and the food tasty! We definitely want to come back and try their menu and wine and all the things. We just really gotten things "al banco" so we can get started on our day... Looks to be a great brunch/lunch spot, and they are open late into the evening too. Give them a try if you're in the area. Close to the Roma Termini and Repubblica Metro Stop. I think I gained a few pounds just smelling the delicious scents in the air here. This is an excellent bakery/sandwich shop/gelato shop, three of my favorite places combined into one. It's not touristy which is a plus if you are looking to have a authentic Roman experience. The very nice woman behind the counter was so nice as we communicated by pointing a whole lot. But you know it all worked out, because the pastries that I had here were worth every single calorie! I wish I could remember the names of each one. Wonderful find as I was walking about. Had a glass of the house white, very nice as described in the menu. I also wanted a snack vs dessert I ordered the margarita pizza, the sauce was perfect and cheese was delicious there was only a few literally 3-4 small basil leaves (I'd ask for extra next time). The food and the service were good, and I'd probably go back. This establishment was recommended to us by our guide, as she thinks it has a good cannoli, and she was right. It was good. Are you familiar with the ways of Italy when it comes to eating in or taking out? I learned a little lesson here, and you might also want to know it. There are two prices for the baked goods, and it's cheaper to take it away. You pay a bit extra to eat in, and that's what my wife and I chose to do. It's not a lot more, but it is more, and all we had were cannolis. Ultimately the big question is, would you go back. The day we were to leave Rome, we had no sightseeing plans, just get some food (it was late morning), pack up our room and make our way to the cruise port. We wandered our hotels neighborhood for a place serving more than pastries at this hour of the day. We came upon this cafe which had some other breakfast choices. The cafe was very nice and big, seating was at tables in the plaza walkway. Staff was very helpful. We both ordered sandwiches and drinks. The sandwiches were very tasteless, we had better sandwiches from street vendors. We got some pastries to go, which were good. It was a sad ending to our Roman Holiday. read more

Really good authentic Italian fare, they have a great selection of sandwiches and pastries and were open on the late side when we were in town. They were cash only when we stopped by at night but were willing to take card during the day. The selection of sandwiches were elegantly presented and made it difficult to choose just one. Sweet (and savoury) heaven from Sicily. The Rome branch of Dagnino is tucked away behind the dramatic curve of the Piazza Repubblica, in Galleria Esedra. There is only one other branch, in Palermo, Sicily. Dagnino is a family owned and run cafe/restaurant/patisserie under cover in an arcade behind the right hand curve of Piazza Repubblica as you approach from Termini Station. Dagnino is the bees knees; the perfect introduction to Rome and Southern Italy. Dagnino is not expensive either! The youngest of our party was fondly indulged with a mozarella rich Pizza Margherita; he loved it and cooed over it for ages, savouring each delicious mouthful. The child's parents modestly nibbled a selection of sandwiches. That said, no miserable wet lettuce, soggy tomato or limp ham on Mother's Pride bread here. No. Dagnino's sandwiches were made with herb rich and savoury foccacia, drenched in olive oil, with marinated, thinly sliced, flavour rich roast vegetables, parma ham and mozarella. There were probably more fillings than bread in these doorstoppers which fed two adults very well indeed (and just Euro 8.40 or about £7). The other half had Ravioli stuffed with Ricotta and Spinach which was smothered in a peppery, olive oil rich tomato sauce and was savoured with lip smacking comedic rapture, perhaps the only way to describe the superb, summery, savoury flavour. I chose roast chicken with potatoes, a deceptively simple dish that is so often the undoing of a restaurant. The chicken was perfectly roasted and flavoursome but moist too whilst the potatoes had a vibrant garlic and rosemary 'zing' grounded in perfect, nutty, olive oil - nicely semi-crisp with an almost buttery interior. Dagnino is a cafe, equaly happy to serve you an espresso or capuccino as a full lunch, a single pastry or a gift box - whatever suits you. It seems to dominate the Galleria Esedra with it's gift shop of Sicilian tablewares, restuarant and cafe, outdoor seating and superb cake shop. Pasticceria Dagnino is where you can get your Sicilian food fix when in Rome. The restaurant is large with lots of outdoor seating and the space is divided in two with the right serving prepared foods and drinks+gelato while the left has baked goods and sweets. We were in Sicily for a week before arriving in Rome so I must say nothing we had at Pasticceria Dagnino even came close in terms of taste or quality but the place is popular with locals working close by for a quick lunch and if you do have a sweet tooth, the baked goods are decent, especially the almond meringue cookies. I was definitely disappointed by this place. Maybe I came too late for dinner (~8:00 pm?) but practically everything we wanted to order they were out of. Let me explain. Basically they have plates of food that are already made (think Kroger) and whatever you order, they just scoop and heat up for you. We didn't realize this since they handed us menus but quickly found out when they told us they were out of everything we wanted by that time. What's the point of having a menu then if it really doesn't represent your inventory, and I can't order from it? I ended up ordering the cannelloni which tasted horrible. I didn't even finish it, and it was expensive. On top of all that, the service was horrible. The cashier seemed upset when we went up to her to pay. "Hey lady, I'm upset your food sucks too, OK?" Let me start off by saying that the pastries are pretty good. However, that being said, you can find good pastries pretty much everywhere in Rome and not have to spend as much as we did. My husband and I each had a Cappuccino and a pastry and we were charged 29Euros for it. One should not ever have to spend that much for a pastry. MICROWAVED FOOD, RIPOFFS AND POOR SERVICE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Came at 9pm, there were only a few people seated and eating - should have taken this as a sign. My girlfriend tried to order a certain pasta, but the waiter told us they only had 3 out of the 6 pastas listed on the menu! What's the point of having a menu when half of the food is not available? I was quite hungry by then so I overlooked that. I ordered chicken with potatoes. The food we had was TERRIBLE! After coming from great food at similar prices in Venice, this was just ridiculously bad. My chicken came as one piece of meat with all the bones in it (like something I would get from McDonald's or a fast food restaurant), and they actually dared to serve the pasta in the shape of a PIE! Everything was CLEARLY MICROWAVED. The dishes were all dry and gritty, TASTED WORSE THAN INSTANT FOOD. After that, I walked into the shop to see the very same chicken pieces I ordered on the shelf as though it was leftovers for the day!!! I can't believe they dared to serve people food that look like they were going to go to the trash. The bill came out to be 29 euro for just 2 terrible dishes. I paid 30 euros, waited for change to be returned, but after 10 minutes didn't get my change. The server had the audacity to think that the 1 euro was tips/tried to short-change us, hoping we'd not notice. When I blatantly asked him for the change, he took really long, and then returned us LOTS OF COINS (.20, .10, .05), claiming that they only had these coins left -- from one whole day of service?? I doubt so. In short, DON'T GO HERE. It is the WORST PLACE I've been to. Don't ruin your trip to Rome like we did with this horrible experience read more

Dagnino is recommended in many guidebooks as a pastry shop that's been around for awhile. It's nestled in an open mall, and open from 7am until late. They service is friendly although not particularly bothered. This place is perfect if you are staying in the St Regis across the street. My wife and I came here every morning for a cappuccino and a pastry - I recommend the crema filled croissants or buns. For less sweet go with the brioche which is lovely. Standing at the bar will save you almost half. For lunch the panini- ham and cheese or tomato and cheese were very good. The calzone was ok. The cannoli gelato was also decent although there are better gelato options in Rome. Another benefit of this place - it's a bit more relaxed then pastry shops located on the busy street where throngs of tourists and locals alike pack in. read more

Only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because the waitress was very nice. Wanted some tiramisu being that I'm here in Italy. The center was frozen solid. We had lunch here and found it very enjoyable,but somewhat uneven. This is a tavola calda place, which I like, which is a great and traditional fast lunch option in Italy, and which is similar to the Turkish "hizir yemek" place but which will probably turn off many Americans at first impression. This has prepared food ready to go,hot or cold, and one orders at the counter. Most of the food was very good and the arancina (stuffed fried rice croquettes) were delicious. The place is nice with an attractive somewhat art-deco decor, it's in a small galleria(shopping mall) with eating at tables out in front. They have many sweetsof various sorts - cakes, chocolate, puddings, candied fruit, etc., to have there or take away. These are pretty good but a number were disappointing. We found the chocolates a bit waxy and bland and hard. Some other desserts were a bit bland and overly sweet. Others were good, though, and we liked the food. read more
