Lori was totally up for the challenge and excited to accommodate us. She had given us original quote based on our budget, and even after she discovered it should have probably been more considering the work involved, she honored her original quote without us even asking! It meant a lot to us because we were definitely excited to work with her, especially after meeting her and tasting her cakes! Lori truly made the most beautiful candy table for our wedding! All the little touches were perfect! Everybody enjoyed the candy all night! Let me just say we didn't make it easy for her either. It takes a lot to get me to write a negative review for a business, and I don't do it unless I am really disappointed. We hired Pastries by Vreeke to do our wedding cake based on the positive Yelp reviews and the baker was recommended to us by our venue, Calamigos Ranch. My fiance and I were also really impressed by the portfolio photos on the bakery website as well as in the studio. Our wedding cake design was very simple in compassion to what Lori Vreeke has created for her other clients. The cake was designed by my fiance, a Graphic Designer, and it was meant to be one of the design highlights of our wedding. Lori asked us for a few things which we thought would ensure a perfect wedding cake. 1. A template of our cake design drawn to scale. 2. Some ribbon in the colors we wanted the fondant to be. Well, we provided a scale drawing of the pattern we wanted on our cake, and we provided the ribbon in the colors we wanted the cake to be. What we got was hideous. We were so shocked. We wanted a purple cake. We got a brown cake, and it wasn't even a nice shade of brown. Lori told us that she could make the fondant any color we wanted which is why we sent her the ribbon. The cake did not match the ribbon. It wasn't even remotely close in color. The cake was also damaged. The fondant was bubbled in places and there were stains of blue icing here and there. I know that no cake is "perfect," but come on, this one was fugly. Lori also tried to say that the cake looked fine when she dropped it off and she sent us her pictures to prove it, but she conveniently didn't send us pictures of the most damaged side, and you can clearly see the damage in the pictures she did send us. She also tried to suggest that whatever damage we saw was not caused by her. Rather it was caused by the staff at Calamigos Ranch. Way to throw the venue that has been recommending your business to their clients, under the bus... Overall, it looked like a rushed job. It also looked like Lori passed the work on to someone less talented than she claims to be. We feel like she didn't work on our cake, personally. You can judge for yourself, based on our pictures. This cake cost my mother over $1,750 and it was maybe worth half of it. The one positive thing I can say about this cake was that it tasted wonderful. Everyone raved about the filling. The ingredients were fresh and the quality was excellent, but a wedding cake should look as good as it tastes. So, I cannot recommend Pastries by Vreeke as a wedding cake vendor. I don't know why my cake came out the way it did. Maybe Lori was having an off day. Maybe she gave the cake to one of her less-talented employees. Maybe she had a more expensive, more interesting cake to work on that day. It doesn't really matter. read more

My fiancée at the time and I had looked into 4 different bakeries. 3 of which immediately tried to persuade us into changing the structure of our cake because either they weren't comfortable with making the cake we wanted, or they were not able to do it. We wanted a chandelier type of cake. (The biggest tier is at the top, working its way down, the tiers get smaller). Long story short, Vreeke was the ONLY one who didn't hesitate and immediately said "YES! I can totally do that!" She was very excited and full of energy about the project, which made us very happy. However, the taste of the cake is also just as important as the design of the cake. Vreeke provided us with generous portions of her samples, which were all very delicious. We went with the Cookies & Cream and Strawberry Shortcake. (Everyone LOVED the cake and the flavors!) Vreeke went above and beyond to give us our dream wedding cake. We started brainstorming of what we could have on the cake and she just had so much energy and ideas, that we were both really excited about her making our cake. She even added little crystal beadings to really make it look like an actual chandelier. Vreeke was very professional and kind. If I could give her more stars, I definitely would. I had the misfortune to recommend Pastries by Vreeke to my Supervisor who was throwing a birthday bash for her best friend. The cake was to be the centerpiece of a beautiful evening gala - and my Supervisor was in charge of the birthday cake. How sad that I recommended Vreeke! After my Supervisor selected a cake from Vreeke's website and sent several emails with details of the colors AND the delivery address, and the event date - just a few weeks away, my Supervisor was suddenly informed that Vreeke does not deliver to the address we requested. Could the $600 price tag have something to do with this sudden leaving us out to dry? I think so - though Vreeke could have told us this from the outset and we would have simply gone somewhere else. Judging from her work on more expensive cakes, though, I would say that regardless of what you spend, you are risking quite a bit if you go with her! Lori is beyond words. She is as artistic as she is detail oriented. She did our fabulous wedding cake and a gorgeous candy buffet. The candy buffet was all in our wedding colors of purple and grey. OMG the most amazing and delicious cakes come from Pastries by Vreeke! We settled on alternating tiers with the Strawberry Shortcake and the Chocolate Marble Swirl. My fiance and I tried several bakeries, and we were so disappointed until we came across Pastries by Vreeke. She will ask what flavors you would like to sample ahead of time, and they were plated exactly how you would find your wedding cake. Not some little sliver of cake. We were also scared of fondant, but she makes the perfect fondant, thin, and edible! The cake simply melts in your mouth, and the flavors are unique and phenomenal. We chose hazelnut crunch, and grand marnier for our wedding cake flavors. The cake is not too sweet, and it just crumbles when you stick your fork in it.
