That's important for this venue, as it replaced the old Dulles Expo Center, located in Chantilly, VA, which unfortunately became an IKEA. For this tournament, we stayed at the La Quinta Inn Downtown Baltimore, which is about 15 minutes away, but I wouldn't recommend it at all unless you have a really tight budget. I'll be reviewing that travesty next, but that doesn't affect my review here. The space here was very large, and the Supernova staff made adequate use of it. It was a bit of a pain to go in first thing, but that's expected at cons/conventions, as people usually have bags on the first day. The other days went more smoothly. The staff was cordial and pretty friendly. They didn't allow outside food or drinks, which I can partially understand if they want to sell stuff there, but the options there were extremely overpriced, such as paying $5 for a can of Diet Coke. The staff was still pretty lenient and allowed some drinks, so thanks. In terms of food options, there was a Papa John's, which I did not partake in, a few other places selling salads and sandwiches, and one other place where I got most of my food. While I didn't like the AI imagery, aside from waiting and eating later, I mostly had stuff from Addy's Barbeque, a halal BBQ spot with two other locations in MD and VA. The brisket was alright, the smashburger wasn't the best, and the tenders were decent. The "Special Sauce" wasn't half bad either. Nice giant venue, and I could see why it was picked. Would go again next year.

I can't blame the space planning on the convention center, but the wildly popular panels were in tiny rooms and had to turn people away. The ones with less than 50 people were in huge rooms. It happened so often! Beside the usual set up of convention centers, I want to talk about the food since that's really the only thing to discuss beside sprawling, undecorated rooms. There were, by my count, two concession stands. Both were wildly understocked and understaffed! The top floor had a meat lover's paradise: meatball subs, beef hot dogs, meat lasagna (I think), etc. Here's the kicker, though: almost no one was at this one. The other was in the entryway, which caused massive congestion. The lines were insanely long, even at 3 pm when I ate (on West Coast time). They offered something called a "Spanish bowl" and that was their only offering. You could get either chicken or tofu, and by the time I was there, they were out of tofu and most of the toppings. Being a vegetarian, I spent $34 on rice, beans, shredded iceberg lettuce, a bag of chips, and a water. It took about 25 minutes to get. I also need to argue, on a philosophical level, that there was nothing Spanish (or really Mexican) at all about this bowl. Being from California, I think they were overselling it. They should call it "Tex Mex Bowl." Either way, it wasn't very good. But, like I said, it's a convention center, so I didn't really expect better. In that sense, it met my expectations.

Brilliant show, the space was perfect for it since it was a group participation show with dancing in the center. Great staff and very nice, accommodating when I had a last second "GI emergency" and needed to run in and out. This is a complex of spaces that is used for traveling shows, Broadway type productions, and special events, pretty extensive and flexible looking space. The area around the theater seemed sketchy from superficial appearance after dark, I took ride share to/from, but I could be wrong since I'm just visiting.

At the top of the hill, you are greeted by a medieval castle. The Cloisters sits on 60 secluded acres. You will be amazed by the beauty of this castle with its delicately carved wood, exquisitely detailed stained glass, and ornately designed wrought iron. It was the home of Sumner and Dudrea Parker. They designed the castle to highlight their extensive collection of medieval artwork and artifacts. It was built in 1929 and took 3 years to complete. It was truly a lovely setting for the wedding. The wedding was held outside in an enclosed courtyard. After the ceremony, we all went back into the castle where several rooms were set for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. They then took down all the chairs and reset the courtyard for a sit down dinner. Everything was just perfect. What a lovely way for the new bride and groom to start their new life journey together!

There are multiple spaces that all have a unique ambiance both inside and out. It really does feel like you go back in time when you get to the castle. So many great photo ops. The downside of this is that the temperature control isn't always ideal. We got lucky with the weather during our event, but the days leading up to it were very cold inside and I can imagine temp issues if it were hot outside too. The place is huge but very compartmentalized so it was great for an event with ~70-80 people. Would not recommend as a place for kiddos as there are a lot of steep stairs and delicate features. The staff seemed nice but they are very strict about timing - if you paid for an hour, you must leave right at the end of that hour! Our friends who rented the space seemed happy with the service, though.

It's one of those places that you have know is there. You'd never "just stumble across it". In order to get there you have to go down a wooded driveway for about a mile. Then all of a sudden it opens up to a huge mansion sitting on impeccably landscaped lawns. There are several gardens and small ponds. The visual impression of the place is hard to beat. The staff was very professional and pleasant. I did not get a chance to go inside the mansion put I was told it is equally impressive. If you're planning an event I would definitely recommend looking into the Belmont

It's a big enough event space but since it was SO HOT that day, the lack of shade in the square made too many people try to squeeze into the air conditioned rooms of the event center. All in all, a decent place for a festival - lots of space (indoor and outdoor), lots of seating, clean bathrooms. I just hope the day of the festival is cooler next year!

Easy to get to location with plenty of parking nearby. The food offered at the festival is always delicious and reasonable. I'd definitely consider having an event of my own here.
