The restaurant itself is on a corner and is really set up for takeout orders. We chose to eat there and were able to snag one of the few tables outside. The restaurant is very busy so it's best to know what you want when getting to the order counter. We tried the Classic Beef pie and one that had beer, beef and mash. Both were actually quite tasty. We tried them with and without sauce (sauce is on the side). I liked the sauce - not a ketchup (or tomato sauce as the Aussies call it) but close to it - my wife did not. The pies were quite flavorful and tasty and we were pleased both the the quality and the speed of service.

Racks of the pastries were right behind the counter, including both sweet and savory options. The employee manning the front was so warm and seemed happy to help answer our questions about the day's offerings. She said the most popular item all year round is their almond croissant, filled with an almond frangipane, but her personal favorite at the time was the seasonal Hazelnut Praline Brioche. Given that this is something you don't see at any ordinary bakery, I couldn't resist and you could say she talked me into it! My second choice would have been their handheld apple pie with its perfect lattice and caramelized sugar on top. The HAZELNUT PRALINE BRIOCHE (A$12) was essentially a light airy donut filled with a smooth chocolate hazelnut cream that tasted like a Ferrero Rocher. The amount of filling was generous and oozed out with every bite... I could have eaten spoonfuls of the filling just by itself! A slightly crunchy praline crumb topping gave it a crisp cap. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of this brioche as it wasn't too rich nor too sweet. I also got a flat white coffee which was good, hot and paired nicely with my brioche. My mom got their seasonal lemon monkey bread which she said was just okay. It didn't have that cinnamon gooeyness that one would normally expect in this type of dessert. Similarly, they also offered a lemon vanilla custard tart which my sister enjoyed. Oddly, it was labeled only as a "vanilla tart" on the display, which is a little misleading, especially for anyone who's not a fan of citrus. This cafe has a nice open air seating area with ample space, a couple seats at the coffee counter and some seats outside. Most of the tables were already occupied by the time we arrived, so we sat outside. With the cafe being located in an alleyway, we were able to savor our pastries in the morning sun without any cars or traffic whizzing by. What a lovely way to begin our day in Manly!

We arrived at the fish market very early, so we decided to have some coffee and share a quick pastry as the restaurants were all prepping for the day. We shared the bacon and cheese roll, which was a heftyboi and the perfect thing to get us ravenous for our imminent seafood feast. The bread itself was dense enough to hold up the cheese and bacon, but airy enough that it didn't immediately fill us all up. The bacon was perhaps a smidge less cooked than I generally like, but it was still very yummy. We had a few coffees also, and they were all delicious. I have a severe coffee addiction, and really considered buying one of their mugs despite the fact that I no longer have any room in my cabinets for more drinkware. IT WAS SO GOOD THOUGH. We also got a loaf of their house bread to go, so we could snack on our trip between meals and in the mornings and such (yeah, we're real chunkers, okay?). It was light and airy and delicious and perfect. I wish we had a bakery like this close to my house back home, though that'd probably be dangerous. It's nice to hsve seating but in one case a table and chairs block the counter and you can't see the prepared foods, even with no one sitting there. They also have various coffees and other drinks.
