One star taken away for the dirty conditions that could easily be solved with maintenance/cleaning. That being said, you've got access to PATCO to get to center city Philly in a matter of minutes. Looking for the Riverline to head north to Trenton (where connections to Amtrak and the NJ Transit NYC-bound NE corridor train are found)? Then you must head across the street to the "broadway" station. The riverline platform is street level and easy to find. Cops are EVERYWHERE. At least they were at 3 pm on a Monday (can't speak to night time). I even heard a local lament their presence, implying it precluded a business transaction from taking place. Your nose may encounter the typical smells of human life here. Again, it gets the job done. Don't be a snob, use common sense. and you'll get where you need to go.

Unlike most other modern public transportation where I can scan my cell to Apple Pay at the gate, I had to go to this archaic box machine to buy a ticket. It was so particular, complicated and then even difficulty to pay. If someone was in a rush, I can see this making them late. When you get down to the sublevel, you will not have any reception. I noticed some people hang on the stairs so they can see the train and access their phones. This would be bad if you are relying on your devices for direction. Also the northbound and southbound tracks were not clear. Hope you are good at reading the schedule and don't get on the wrong train. My coworker and I got on the correct train and we made it back to Philly Safely. We staggered in different rows so we can both get a window seat view and enjoy the ride back.

It can be a bit stinky, more than other stations on the Jersey side and in the heat of the summer, more so than in winter. Conveniently, there's a PNC branch located next to the parking lot which is great if you are grabbing cash to spend in Chinatown- which frequently does not take card. I have no issues parking here. And as far as the people that frequent the station, they are not ruffians. And the station is kept clean. It's also so close to Philadelphia that you'll be there after about a 10-minute ride. Like many of the PATCO stations, waiting on the platform outside provides a nice breeze and lots of shade during the summer time!

Cost wise, if you are traveling solo, it is cheaper than driving with gas and tolls. If there's a few of us, we just consider it the cost of adventure travel. The train station is a bit tricky to find, as it's behind the big anchor stores. Parking overnight is OK; of course, park under a light, just in case. You buy your ticket at the machine, which is located inside a shelter, also useful if it's rainy, hot, humid, snowing, thundering, etc. Go online to check the schedule if you are smart so you don't have too long of a wait til the train arrives. Once you have your ticket, keep it on you and stick it on the little ticket slot on top of your seat. The conductor will swing by at some point before you arrive at your destination to punch it.

I am always so happy to see historical buildings saved, especially when it comes to trains. The demolition of NYC's Penn Station for Madison Square Garden is a travesty that hurts my heart so I appreciate that this station, which was once a station for the Pennsylvania Railroad, is still in tact. However, the station is showing some wear and tear and would benefit from a facelift. With Philly hosting FIFA World Class Soccer, the MLB All Star games and other events for America's 250th, I thought maybe there would be some renovations to the station. Unfortunately, the food court is closed so the only options for food and drinks are Dunkin Donuts and a newspaper stand. There is an ongoing renovation but I can't tell exactly what has been done. i will say, it was nice to see the station from about a block away - the exterior is lovely. The trains all board under the station so it's convenient that you don't have to walk too far to get on your train like you would at a stub-end station. For those needing assistance, Amtrak offers a "Red Cap" service. Getting down the escalators and down the platform can be a bit of survival of the fittest so asking for help will get you escorted down the elevator to your train car without battling the masses. Red Cap will also take care of your bags. The waiting room is large as are the bathrooms. They also have some nice exhibits about the station and its artwork. I'm looking forward to returning to see how the renovations turned out. I am hoping that the food court will reopen and maybe even offer some local eateries.

For this reason, I prefer the other stations -- in particular 15/16 and Locust -- much more. Otherwise, this spot is decent. I'm glad it exists, but I wish it could undergo a remodel. I chose train from the airport to Philadelphia Chinatown. This was a nice treat for me. I love how organized the signage and helpful employees to make sure I was not lost. The train arrival time on the display seem to be accurate to the minute. My first-time arriving Jefferson Station was trying to leave the platform after seeing so many exits. I used my GPS to direct me to the correct street for my final destination. Then, I asked a police officer on the street level to confirm my location. My second visit was me leaving town to the airport. I asked a gate person how to enter the terminal. She was super nice. No issues here. I just had to remember to lift my luggage so I don't get stuck in the turnstile to cause any embarrassing scene.

For the most part the station is clean and it doesn't have any of the underground transportation smells. and it is generally safe. I'm lucky enough to actually live exactly halfway between the Haddonfield and Westmont Station. The parking here is pretty easy (I do use my card to enter into the paid lot). I am grateful for the escalator that goes up to the high platform - I do have a slight, painful mobility issue right now that makes going down those very long set of stairs not as much fun, the real reason I do not use Westmont very often.
