WANT TO MAKE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC? The most unexpected vendors at the Cherry Blossom Festival had to be the harp makers, (Jim and Jeannie Ruthem). Outside of the symphony, where do you get an opportunity to get up close and personal with a harp? The harps were beautifully made and Jim gave a thorough presentation of how the notes are set and played. My husband was actually mesmerized and stood at the stall for at least 10 minutes asking questions. I really wanted to closely examine the harp and ask some questions but Jim was really into his presentation and my husband, (out of innocent curiosity), was hogging the scene. I did find out that harps are priced around $1000 per square foot. Who knew? I love harp music but could never imagine spending the time to learn and play because you actually have to sit and focus. I'm just too easily distracted. However, I will continue to enjoy the talent of those who do invest the time to learn and share their gift, especially during the Christmas holidays. read more
